Golden Silk spider. Species found all over the world. Common in Florida, even in residential areas. I enlarged the pic to actual size. Dh's first experience was running in a Hammock---wild area, full of moving things. He ran into the web across a path. The web was full of wrapped dead things. The strength of the web is very strong. Seminole Indians used to use the web strings for fishing line and to make purse type bags. DH turned in a circle b/c he didn't know what he ran into. The spider wasn't in the web but he saw it.

Later we had two, do webs in separate years, OUTSIDE our pool enclosure. Interestingly it was in the same spot. Outside, I did let them live. Inside they die.

Black and Brown Widows are a real problem around the pool. I called My bug guy to come get one. He took it out with a stick. I said "Wow , you're brave to take a Brown widow and her egg sac out with a puny stick." He said "Brown Widow, How do you know that?" Me "The spiculated egg sac", even though Momma was hidden. He got pale, he didn't know.

OH Chit, Looking for images of egg sacs. Now find out we have four species of black widows, three invasive, beside Brown  Widows. AND three invasive species of Brown Recluses.

Explains, why I pay 90.00$ a month for bug & lawn service. Way high priced. Covers inside & outside perimeter, and yard for everything. Plus, callbacks when I see a bug. Florida bugs are ginormous and plentiful, but not at my house or yard.

These are our grasshoppers. There were several wrapped in that web that poor DH was wound up in. I would of had a heart attack. But once you get passed the initial shock, they are beautiful.

\We had the black widows in CA and they hid everywhere! Saw a huge one the size of a quarter under the trash lid - scary. We also had mosquitoes... my daughter would delight in singing.."what do we do with mosqeeeeetos...squish-em!" We would sing this on camping trips.. So much for Quaker non violence! :-) We also had a terrible ant infestation during a heat/drought, ants everywhere looking for water. My middle kid was just 3 or4 and put her hands on her hips and said "Damn ants!" Just like I would..."busted." Dad was not amused.

In Oregon we have Hobo spiders which can give you a nasty necrotic bite. They are aggressive and build funnel type nests in shrubs and on grasses. You need to be careful. They don't look especially scary, brown with bands. Up at our cabin in the forest - spiders are HUGE! Makes ya scream like a girl. We had one on the front porch for a week that cast a shadow he/she was so friggin enormous. I could not sit on the porch chairs under that spider.. if he fell on on you all enormous and black you would die of fright!! My husband laughed at me... some bird probably got him..Thanksgiving feast! I don't like the spiders that have the bug eyes and when you move they move... oh.. no Buddhist/Quaker values go right out the window..squish em. Shocked
