In 1956, a priest named Fr. Louis Coffey had an idea. He wanted to bring the Bible alive for poor children in Dublin with a Christmas focus and using, what was at the time, quite advanced mechanical figures. He created a series of tableaux which wre called "The Moving Crib". The human figures are about 2 feet high.

The crib is housed in a series of rooms under a small oratory, St. Martin's in Parnell Square in Dublin. Entry has always been completely free.

The scenes tell the story of Christmas starting right back at Adam and Eve and culminating in the Presentation at the Temple after the nativity. There is also a quick nod to Saint Nicholas.

Each November, The Moving Crib is carefully assembled by a team of volunteers and then disassembled again in January and stored with care for the next year. It is also curated by a team of volunteers.

We visit most years. DD (youngest child) is now 10 and we were there yesterday.

If you would like to see it this video shows it (it also has a couple of inserts of original tv coverage of The Moving Crib)

Can you imagine at Disney they're folks that spend their whole work life working on Christmas trees. Designing, setup, taking down.

We DID! We went out to buy more kerosene, for our little heater, then over to Super Walmart for "stuff" .... then we sat in their McDonald's and split a Quarterpounder meal with a big Sweet Tea...Ha! So we enjoyed that.... Frozen Pizza is what he wants for dinner... Tomorrow afternoon we are having Prime-Rib at Rosie's! Loopy

Just wish DH felt as good as he did a few years ago..... He is only 78.... same as me.... but he has a hard-time having "fun".... We know our bodies are getting old, but our mind just has to stay happy no matter what........

Going to wrap more of his presents now.....

So let's face it ... I did not marry the most romantic man in this universe ... but with a little help from my friends ... I think he could pull this off as a surprise gift for me. So help a guy out .. it's our 15th anniversary this year ... I love my hubby, but I'd love my friends more if they actually got this done.:

Feline, you got it! It comes from DH family. They would have Christmas Day at his dad's folks, and Christmas Eve at his mom's folks, and the day before they'd have their family Christmas and started calling it Christmas Adam, and we've always done that.

Oh CHICKENS! We have to chicken-sh... I mean chicken-sit until after New Years for our neighbors.... The chickens and their cat.... but I will take them all treats.... and trudge next door, through the alley, IN the snow and ice, and up their wooden steps to their porch, sweeping all the way. The chickens stay up in their "loft" near their heat lamp, but come scrambling down their plank when I go over...

I LOVE their cat! She starts MeOWWWing when we go over! She gets treats also, and some canned food... not just her kibbles. I'll take her another soft blanket for Christmas....

    Okay..... that's all I got....Winking

The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, in the hopes that St Nicholas soon would be there.

DD scattering magic reindeer dust on the lawn about an hour ago.

The recipe is largely porridge oats, with a few sunflower seeds and a bit of sugar.

The reindeer fly down just before dawn and eat it all.
