Gardening, anyone?

Thought I'd share this tip.
I use the green leaves of my red radishes (no stems) to make pesto. I add basil, garlic, parmesan cheese, walnuts (Rachel Ray idea) and a really good olive oil.
It is really good.

That does sound yummy!

My strawberries are ripening but they are the most tasteless things I've ever eaten. My huge blackberries are sour too. Hoo-hum
Just as I was walking out the door to get pictures of my garden it starts to rain. I waited until it cooled off a bit but the rain got here first. Maybe tomorrow? They say we'll get wet from the Cindy storm system headed this way but we'll see.

Lori, I agree with Wren. I take the med at night.

Gardennerd, I've been taking mine at night since I started on Arimidex. I haven't had a repeat of exhaustion so far this week but I've been slowing things down a bit. I'm feeling pretty good! I wish my port incision would heal faster so I can jump in the pool. Just one more week to get through!
One of my early Girl tomato plants is loaded with baby tomatoes. Yummy!

My Rose of Sharon's are blooming too. Nothing on my hydrangeas yet but they are double the size they've been the past 4 years. I guess they got a huge growth spurt!
Rose of Sharon
Can you find Bob the stray cat?

I see him

I only have one Rose of Sharo and it's blooming nicely too. It's one of the better years for it so far.
Yep, I finally found Bob too. :-)
Got the netting put over our blackberries Wednesday night so hope to have a few more ripe ones soon. Still need to toss some netting over the grapes before it gets too late.

It's raining here and from the looks of the radar it'll be raining for awhile. My garden is in hog heaven and I'm still chillaxing in bed lol

Nice job Teka. DD does a wonderful job with pots and flowers. Smaller veggie garden will be easier to maintain too!

Looked at my tomato plants today to discover I have the first tomato of the season growing. More flowers coming on other plants. Looks like it might be a good season for the tomatoe

Jazzy, he's so cuuuuute!!
Teka, beautiful flowers! Your DD sure has a great eye for pretty flowers.
M0mmy, yay for tomatoes! I have a few plants that have more tomatoes than we will ever eat. Looks like some canning in my near future. My kids just love my red and green tomato salsas.
I have a few cucs that are almost ready for salad making or just for crunching! My beans have gone crazy but my sweet peas are just not growing. My list for in ground planting has been started for next year but I love the conveinence of the straw bale garden and I will do it again next year. I'll get my bales this fall so by spring 2018 the bales will already be set to go!

Lori - Love the Rose of Sharon. Never checked to see how big they will get. I have a small 2' one in a pot. After seeing yours, I'm thinking I need to find it a spot in the ground. Is Bob the stray cat in the darkened area somewhat right of center? Otherwise, is your question a brain tease? as in very large right of the cages. The lightened area has a shape of a cat. but it would have to be a big cat.
Teka - loving the pics. I'm loving all the color.
Jazzygirl - I may have the same characteristics of a Racoon also
Rough weekend. My Dad, 92, had out patient surgery two months ago, went home only to return to hospital. Then moved on to physical therapy facility only to have a major setback and is now in ICU. They are narrowing down the cause, beyond old age. No stroke, no apparent heart attack and now narrowing down to hypercalcemia with a few other side effects mixed in. So planning on 1000 mile trip to be with him. Keep posting those wonderful garden and animal pics. Ya'll are what the doctor has ordered for me.

Gardennerd, mine are 12 to 15 ft tall. If it were my decision I never would have planted where they are. The lady before us planted 2 at the end of our driveway and now they block us from seeing what's coming. I may just cut them down and plant something else there??

Peonies and irises are all done for another year. Cut off all the dead flowers. Managed to bring in a couple of the late bloomers only to see all the ants running across the floor. Looks a little barren without all the flowers. Our season is so short. 🙄
My hydrangea doesn't bloom until mid July at the earliest. I don't even see any buds yet so maybe even later. I'm always surprised when it does bloom.

If I get a lot of tomatoes this year I will either canning them or making crushed tomatoes out of them and freeze them like I did last year.

Gardennerd...thinking of you and your Dad ...

Lori - thanks for the heads up on how big they get. I'll have to definitely keep that in mind. It won't happen anytime soon.
Mommyof2 - how do you freeze your tomato's? I am presently dehydrating and putting in olive oil. But have dehydrated and then freeze. I am SO loving my tomato's this year. Only growing cherry and roma's.

I put them in sturdy plastic containers and pop them right into the freezer

Gardennerd- so sorry to hear about all that is going on with your dad. Wishing all of you better days sister.

Jazzy. . .lol on the Raccoon. Gardennerd, prayers for your father. I know its hard being so far away. Our rain seems to have finally stopped for a few days which is good as we have plants still in pots that we need to get in the ground.
Our Heron finally came back but he's terribly shy. He was in our stream on the side of our property but he took off as soon as he saw me. I'll keep trying.

Scottie, great picture!
And I am stil LOL @ the racoon post Jazzy.
Teka, I like all the different containers and flowers.
Gardenerd, sorry to hear about your Dad. Sending positive thoughts your way.
Lori, your garden is doing fantastically. I don;t see any cukes on my plants yet
MOmmy, it won't be long until you have those tomatoes.
I walked around the yard Sunday and had a light lunch...one small peach (the only one I found with no insect damage) an Asian pear (from the poor tree with the horrible virus) and an apple. My fruits never get very big here so it takes about 4 of mine to make 1 store bought sized fruit. I also managed to snag a handful of blackberries and a couple of my fall gold raspberries. Half my pepper plants have blooms or tiny peppers. There are still 3 or 4 that just don't seem to want to grow at all. :-( I see my blooms on my zukes and a couple of the melon plants so it won;t be long until I can make some fresh zucchinni bread!
Selected a new frig this past weekend and it was delivered yesterday. i think I am in love. LOL I hated giving up my old one because it worked so well for the past 16 years until just last week. Now people are saying you are lucky to get 5 or 6 years from the appliances.?!HUH!? I spent too much money to think this one won't last.

For sure. I already have one that is about the size of the end of a pencil erase

Scottiemom1 - my FIL used to put fish in a 5 gal. bucket and call to a blue heron. Eventually this big bird would come by calling him and eat out of the bucket. The heron remained nervous, but we could sit and watch from about 20'. Always fun to watch them eat as they will flip the fish around head first so the fins and such slid down easier. Sometimes a very large fish might appear stuck in his throat but eventually he would get it down the throat. National Geographic at home : )
Jazzygirl, Heidibird - thanks for your good wishes. Its one of those things that I truly didn't plan on. One of those stages in life no one speaks about. We get married, we have children, we get the children to adulthood, we celebrate the empty nest with our spouses as a new normal comes, we plan on retirement AND the surprise is about the time the kids leave, we have parents that need more care and/or we loose them. I only regret I don't live closer but am blessed I have a brother that has majorly stepped up to the responsibility. So my trip will be to hopefully give him (brother) a break. And to care for my Dad, as he well deserves all the care I can offer.

Gardennerd. . .lol. I told Dh yesterday that we should bait our stream to attracted the heron. A bucket of feeder fish might just do the trick. He let me photograph him in the stream once a few years ago. He was very intent on his fishing expedition and I got fairly close

I have been lurking for a while and enjoying the posts and photos. Thought it was time to join the fun.
I garden with a friend at my house. We have a decent size plot which we have been working on for several years. Each year we try something new. This year it is tomatoes in straw bales.

Got some unexpected rain yesterday due to pop-up thunderstorms.

We came back from business in Atlanta yesterday. Of course, after loving the doggies, opening mail, I ran to the garden.
Got our first tomato. It was a cherry tomato that I divided in half for our salad!
