Yes Retro! It is albumen.....thanks! I am interested too in what Octreotide does. Amazing how many different treatments we hear about here that other patients Onc's have never mentioned or heard about.

Southern, my Onc acted shocked about the 6 liters and said "Well, we need to get that treatment then". I had skipped a week again due to my daughters wedding. So I did the Abraxane again yesterday and he is getting TM numbers this week. He seems to put a great deal of fish in TM's but mine have been high before without progression so I guess we'll see. If they are elevated he wants a scan but I want a scan regardless since I haven't had one since May and just have a feeling things have progressed. Getting a little paranoid. So far today my belly is feeling fine and hope my infusion yesterday knocks it back again. I am finally walking around without the cane, a bit precariously, but need the balance practice. Weird how the neuropathy in my hands comes and goes. Even after a two week break my hands were soon bad on shandy but better today. Hope springs eternal. I did Afinitor for two weeks and got a super weird hellashis rash much like acne or chicken pox. Had to quit. I hope you have better results as many women have.

Octreotite that's really something I never ever heard? Cathy that's so wonderful to hear. And is this in conjunction with other treatments? What does it actually do? So glad that you are feeling better!! So should not e/o with these ascites issues be receiving this tx? Do you know why yes or why not?

Artist you've been having such a hard time lately, for sure you should ask for yourself no? It's crazy that you have jump through so many loops to get the treatment you deserve! How did it go with the wedding? What a dream for you! Congrats.

Sheri so sorry for the side effects of the new treatment. Yeah Dani is gonna go that route also.

Dani never got to have her hair come back, it came back a bit, and off it went for years, and this time it's due to rads to the optical area and nest to the eyebrows, she is devastated, because it's gonna be the lashes too and this is really hard to fake. The hair she already learned to manage with a gorgeous expensive wig, those cute hats in style, and eyebrows she pencils in, BUT the lashes, oh that's a killer. If there is no hair there is nothing to glue the false ones on.

The Y90 is in the 2nd phase God willing this Friday, (she had an episode of bleeding again, so prayers and prayers) the 1st phase was the angiogram, once they mapped the area, the liver is in very bad shape. So bad that RO is deferring to IR, and letting her skip 3 days from regular Rads to have this done in the meantime. The results are not immediate, so that's even more scary. Also, the way IR explained besides e/t the liver is so important because no chemo will work if the

liver doesn't metabolize it due to not working properly. This nurse while I was waiting for the procedure told me pray, so she musta've seen my face, i was thinking well I've been praying and...so she said to me, pray till you receive what you want! wow! that's strong.

She also needs much Rads from everywhere in the Cspine and thoracic. She is on Neratinib/Faslodex, only next week she will have the Tm's we'll see if it made a dent.

The Afinitor she had long ago, she could not tolerate it, was very hard on her.

Hello ladies. I am a newbie to mets. Just finished talking with my onc and confirmed my IBC TN BRCA2 has moved to my periteneum and a couple of nodes in my chest. I will be starting Gemzar/Carbo Thursday. I am, as you all imagine, upset since i never made it two years from original diagnosis. But, Im gonna fight this MFer with everything I've got. At least I had an amazing last four months including marrying off my oldest daughter, 27.

I have no idea what to expect and will be reading your posts. Wish me luck and faith.

Milwmama - sorry for progression but welcome to this thread. There is a wealth of information from some very smart ladies.

Artist - Good for you advocating for yourself!

Sheri, I've been reading up on the Octreotite shots and they are considered a type of chemo. Surprised me!!!! This medication is supposed to cut down on the amount of fluid your small intestine puts out, thus cutting down on the feeling of fullness and gurgling. I skipped my 3rd shot last night because I've been very uncomfortable. Lots of gas, loose stools and a very bloated abdomen. I'm not sure it's working or if the side effects of this medication are almost as bad as what it's supposed to help. I see the gastroenterologist in 2 weeks. I haven't had a major episode since I started the shots but with all the abdominal bloating and gas I'm not any fun to be around either!! LOL Will keep you posted. Hugs, Cathy

Mom, we have started up the Abraxane again this week and hope two weeks in a row will knock the ascites back down. But today the neuropathy in my hands is awful. I insisted on a scan regardless of TM numbers just because it's been awhile and I have some definite new symptoms/pains. So next Wednesday it is, usually my steroid crash day. Oh joy....

The wedding was perfect thank you! A beautiful venue and they planned everything so well. Simple but gorgeous and intimate. I think of Dani everyday and everything she has been through. You have raised one tenacious woman thats for sure.

Welcome Wilwmama, I'm so sorry for your progression too. Such a hard thing. Luck and faith for sure!

Shoot retro, I had high hopes to hear this med might be an answer for us all...Maybe just an initial reaction and things will settle down?

Hi everyone...Had a flare up this week with the clenched fist sensation in my gut. A sure sign of partial bowel blockage. Pretty sure it was my fault for eating sliced ham. My system likes carbs much more than meat. Thank goodness for Atkins shakes with protein. Have been doing 2 shots a day for a few days. Have call into G.I. Doc. Hope this is ok. I just can't bring myself to do the 3rd shot when it causes me such misery. So far doing ok on a low dose of Afinitor. See Doc today. Welcome Milwmama...glad you found us....so sorry you have progression. Artist...hope you start feeling better. I once had 7 liters of fluid removed...made me feel sick and empty. Horrible sensation but such a relief to have the weight off your abdomen. I lost 14 lbs that time. Helluva diet plan. I'm so sorry we are all dealing with this crap but thank goodness we have each other. I learn so much from all of you. LOVE, Cathy

I am rid of one naphostomy bag as of yesterday. Still ha e the tube Incase I need to hook up a bag. Tried capping off both sides yesterday but by 7 last night the right flank pain was unbearable. So on went the dam bag. Left side is draining great so far. Even had to get up in the night to pee lol. My hemoglobin was in the normal range for the first time in over a year. Hope Xeloda keeps working!!

Cathy- let’s keep on fooling those doctors and their dam statistics!!!

  • retrocath
    retrocath Member Posts: 396

Dianarose, I agree!! lol To hell with statistics!! I saw the Physician's Assistant yesterday. My blood tests look great. Tolerating 5mg Afinitor pretty well. I know my Doc would like to raise that but the plan is to keep me on this dosage through the holidays. I'm going to Hawaii at the end of the month to take my sister-in-laws ashes to the Big Island as per her wishes. Still can't believe she's gone. Hope I feel good enough to enjoy the trip. It's a long flight. Got permission to do 2 shots of Octreotide instead of 3 a day. G.I. Doc is concerned that I'm having partial bowel blockages, hence the huge abdominal bloating. I don't have much ascites right now so it's just bloating. Very uncomfortable as you all know. I'm feeling pretty good the last couple of days. Hoping I can hold on to that. Did I mention before that my tumor markers went up over 150 points while on Xeloda? I would have been taken off of it even without the problems I was having. I'm so disappointed about that. Was hoping Xeloda would work for me. Oh well, onward and upward. Enjoy the weekend.... Love, Cathy

Dianarose - hooray for getting rid of one of your nephrostomy bags! That is terrific! So happy Xeloda is working for you.

Cathy - hope your bloating subsides and the Afinitor works its stuff! We want you to be able to have a good trip to Hawaii.

Welcome, Milwmama - best wishes on the Gemara/Carbo combo. Keep us updated on your progress.

Artist - will be thinking of you on Wed when you have your scan. Glad you insisted on getting your new symptoms checked out. Praying for good results.

Mom - did Dani have the Y90 done on Friday? How is she doing?

Linda - are you doing OK?

Praying for all of you women for painfree days.

    Hugs to you all!

Yay Dianarose, that must have felt like a 50 lb weight taken off your body and mind! Go Xeloda!

retro, that sounds pretty miserable still. Hope it's NOT a blockage. I have to wonder about myself as bowels are very sluggish and irregular. Even when I had the major drain 10 days ago my abdomen almost immediately goes back to major pressure feeling. I lost 6 pounds with that. I hope my second treatment of Abraxane relieves this tomorrow. I'm so sorry to hear of your SIL. Hope even though the trip is for a sad reason you still find peace and tranquility in the beauty of Hawaii. Have a great trip!

Thanks southern, the scanxiety begins. I will not be shocked to hear if he says progression. Feeling some new pains.

welcome Milwmama, sorry you have to be here too........Sad

All - I am so incredibly sad. I just saw that stagefree (Ebru) has passed away. She had posted here in mid-October, which now looks like one of her lasts posts. She was such a light for many of us. No more suffering, Ebru! She will be greatly missed by so many on BCO.

Me too, incredibly sad. I will miss Ebru very much. Such a vibrant soul.

Southern - thanks for enquiring about me. I'm ok I guess, my new chemo is being kind to me other than the very occasional nausea and vomiting. Seeing MO next week and will see how TMs are behaving.

Oh no!!! I am incredibly sad too. Ebru was always sooooo upbeat and positive. She was one of the first people I started following on here. Rest in Peace dear Ebru, you will be missed.

Got good news today - TMs dropped another 69 points this cycle on Halaven. Since starting Halaven on July 20, 2017, my TMs have dropped 68%. MO is very happy with this and is pleased that my lab work looks good. He was afraid as I continue in Halaven, WBC, RBC, Hemoglobin, etc.could take a hit, but so far, so good. I started cycle #6 today (infusion #11.) I was telling someone my story today - it's surreal at times to repeat it and think I'm still alive to tell it.

    Love to all!

Southern I am so happy to read your TMs dropped, fantastic news!

Dianarose praying your hubby is ok. Life is so unfair at times.

Milwmama sorry about your progression, you will find great comfort, help and support here.

Everyone else I am sending love and positive thoughts to you all, hope everyone is pain free.

I was away again, this time in England visiting family. Sadly my Dad died whilst I was there, not expected so suddenly. Just so glad I got to see him. Back home now but flying back again soon for the funeral. Meanwhile i'm getting bad nausea and losing weight, so scared I have progression again. Scan in December.
