Starting Chemo in July 2017

proud, glad you get the quick infusion and I hope you live nearby. I drove 4 hours round trip and a 5 hour infusion, but it was my choice so no complaints.
Do you also have to deal with the three days of steroids? I finished them last night for this infusion and am looking forward to a good night tonight.
I've noticed that many of my SE like a salty taste in my mouth disappears after the first week and then food tastes good again. Do you get that too with your off week?
The news out of California says the wildfires are pretty much contained and now the cleanup begins. Did it get close to you or affect friends or family? Hoping not.
Have a great day

Tpralph, you look and sound great, thanks for the pictures.
I think #4 has been easier too and like you said it may be do to my mind set. I'm usually a little drained on day four after three steroid nights and hit the steroid crash on the fifth day. Maybe the crash won't be so bad tomorrow.
Next week I go for my simulation and tats for rads. That will be interesting, then it all begins 11/27. It's got to be easier than chemo, I refuse to worry about skin and blisters.
Paulette, good luck tomorrow, praying for an uneventful infusion. Now you're past the halfway mark! Yippee! Celebrate each milestone
Leatherette, how long will the herceptin infusions last? Do they have noticeable SE?
Hugs and prayer

i guess my infusions have been smooth in comparison to some others. I live in nj and go to a satellite of mem sloan kettering. Since it is only about 12 miles from me so easy to get to. Some days it is really busy and gets backed up but still feel good with the place and doctors. Have to remember others have bigger trips

proud, I thought you were in California.
I have infusion centers nearby but chose to drive to Georgetown in DC and all the horrible traffic. So I can't complain. However for rads I'm staying close. The hospital nearby has a great new and sophisticated machine and I love my RO. I couldn't face a trip to D.C. everyday

Teese - I’m from California and the air is getting better now. Weather has been weird for October today it’s 80 degree again. I’m not complaining because I don’t care about cold weather since my body is still weak. So I can take my morning walk in nice weather. Yes I’m on halfway mark, moving towards the finish line. Tell us about your radiation so we can prepare ourselves.
Proud - glad to hear you have an uneventful infusion day, I hope mine will be the same way.
Ladies, you all have a safe way and enjoy the Autumn weather.

paulettek- I started an October rads group. You are welcome to follow us as we see what unfolds during rads.
Today was #4 of 28 rads. Don't expect skin issues until week after next. Could be surprised with skin issues next week or not at all. Time will tell

Teese, I'm pretty sure herceptin continues for a full year, so until july 2018. I think herceptin alone maybe just causes diarrhea, which I have not had while taking it along with the taxotere and carboplatin. Hopefully that means I won't have problems with it.

Teese & Tpralph: Congrats on your final day of chemo! Glad to see/hear about all the bell-ringing since my clinic didn't have a bell to ring... but I am happy to say I'm 3 weeks PFC as of today!
I met with my new RO today and he was very thorough with his explanation as to why he agrees with the recommendation from my first RO (who is now on sabbatical). I had some runaway cancer cells in my lymph node that escaped AKA extra-nodal spread, so the radiation will help kill those cells in case they were not removed during surgery. He also wants to target the lymph nodes that were not removed (so near my collarbone) to reduce the chance of any spread. So I do the simulation on Monday and we'll figure out the treatment schedule from there. I'll be doing 28 days so it will span Thanksgiving, but at least will be done before Christmas.
I'm glad to read about your rads experiences here and happy to hear that no one has had complications. I'll check out the Oct Rads thread also to see how I need to prepare. I'm not looking forward to my lymphedema possibly getting worse with rads. I wear a sleeve daily now, as well as a compression glove since most of the swelling is at the back of my hand. I really hope that the swelling is temporary.
This weekend, DH & I are doing the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5K walk, so I'm looking forward to that. We did this in previous years in memory of my Mother in law, but the last time was probably 5 years ago. We did a practice walk last week to see if we can last for the entire 5K and we were able to make it from start to finish. Since my surgery in May, I haven't really walked more than 2 miles at a time, and wasn't walking regularly. So I was happy to get through it. I think that since the walk takes place in the downtown area, there are a lot of sights to keep me distracted from any aches and pains. Plus, we'll have my girlfriend and her family join us, as well as one of my sisters & my niece, so it will be fun!
My DH planned a post-chemo getaway for us next weekend. He is keeping it under wraps, so I have no idea where we are going. I'm the one that usually plans our vacations, so I'm itching not knowing how to prepare. haha Since we're flying somewhere, he'll have to tell me sooner or later so I know what to pack.

Sunny, enjoy the heck out of your trip, sounds intriguing, fill us all in when you get back. You'll be starting rads in Nov? I'll start 11/27.
Leatherette, I'm so glad herceptin seems to have minimal SE.
Paulette, happy to hear you can enjoy a walk without smoke and still enjoying warm weather. Good luck today, another one down.
Today is my down day, aches and tired, but shouldn't complain, tomorrow I should improve. Forced myself on the dreadmill, tomorrow I hope to make it down the street.
Have a good evening ladies.
Hugs and prayers,
Theresa

I was thinking of all my BCO sisters this morning at the 5K ACS "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" walk in our area. I received a Survivor pin and the card it came with read:
"Every breast cancer experience is different, but what unites all survivors is the immeasurable strength it takes to face the challenges head on and the desire to end this disease forever."
We walked in memory of those who fought and lost the battle to this horrible disease, and in honor of those who are fighting and winning. As long as we keep up the fight we are all survivors.
Here is a pic of me at mile 3, close to the end of the walk.

yeah!!! Sunnyjay!!! You rocks!
Good for you .... 5K after chemo!!

sunny, thank you for being there and representing all of us. You look beautiful and stron!. In July when this chemo journey started we all wondered how we would end up and it's amazing through this wild ride that we're coming out in one piece and now look, hardly out of chemo and doing the 5K walk! Woot! Thanks for posting the pic.
Paulette, yes the perfect weekend to just chill, working through the last of these $#*+€¥ pains, constipation and neuropathy. Hoping your post infusion days are ok, I know they're not great.

Time to call the eye doctor

Great Job Sunnyjay! Awesome picture!
Teese...rest up and recover this weekend! Those side effects will be gone soon!
Enjoying a nice relaxing weekend. Exercise, time with family, finishing up a couple projects. Going to try to make a couple meals today for next week post chemo.

Proud, yes my vision tanked immediately after first chemo. I read to give it time to adjust however nothing's gotten better. So I'm thinking new glasses. ugh, the ones I'm using are only 6 months old.
Runnermum, feeling more energetic today, went out btwn the rain drops for a walk. Your weekend sounds very nice, plus I'm a cook ahead type person. We put a ton of stuff in the freezer before chemo, really didn't touch it during AC, but my appetite returned with Taxol. Now we've eaten it down. Time to get going and get some stuff done for those nights during rads when thawing dinner is the only way we'll feel like getting a hot meal on the table.
Have a good day all

Your weekend sounds nice too Teese! Usually i am pretty social person, like to get out of house on weekends since i work from home during week. Have been more content to be home more and this weekend was unseasonably cold here soon enjoyed it. I love to cook meals and try new recipes and fall/winter is my favorite time to cook and bake! Summer is usually throw something on the grill! I asked for and received a electric pressure cooker last Christmas! I use it all the time!! Seriously it has been a life saver. You can find so many recipes online. I love how it cooks everything quickly and evenly. Everything turns out great in it. I made a cheesecake yesterday to take to my brothers last night.so yummy!

tesse, now why did i just know you would confirm that about vision? Well guess it is a call to eye doc tomorrow. My eyes had not changed in years but sure did now
0 -
Proud, I heard that chemo affected our vision and I heard we should wait for few months before we check our eyes because it might change back. How many months are you post chemo?
0 -
Proud, my vision is terrible now, especially near vision. I have to take off my progressive glasses to look at anything close up. I figured part of it is the constant watering I've had, but that can't be all of it. I will probably wait until a few months PFC to have it checked again. I was due for new glasses anyway.
Great picture, Sunnyjay! Glad you were able to do that!
And the other posts are making me want to cook/eat.......

yes, I'm hungry now. And intrigued about a cheesecake in the pressure cooker. Is this one of those instant pots I think they're called?
Proud, yes, my vision stinks and it's driving me nuts and gives me headaches. I'm truly sick of this SE. Since you're on this for awhile I'd go get your eyes checked and the new glasses, why put up with the annoyance. I'm told to wait and see if the correct, yeah I'm pretty sure that's not gonna happen. I'll be absolutely flabbergasted if they correct. I'm never that lucky.

proud I went out and bought some drug store reading glasses, it helps . will get my eyes checked in spring. Told by another member that their optometrist said vision can be skewed for up to 6 months!
