Cookie - Thanks for the shingles sympathy. As of this morning it hasn't spread any, but it is a bit more painful. So far though, I feel real lucky as it's only about an inch of skin involved at this point. I'm hoping it stays that way. I'm kicking myself now too for not having gotten the shot, but I guess that just lessens the possibility, it's not a sure thing. I'm learning you can get shingles over and over again.
rlschaller - I was kind of surprised that I went up to the walk-in clinic so fast to check this out. The nurse practitioner there said that a lot of people just seem to get a 6th sense about Shingles and they do run pretty quickly to get it checked out. The anti virals aren't a cure, but I guess they can help contain the spread and pain. Right now that small spot just feels a bit like a burn. It's not that bad because it's such a small area, but I can't imagine a large swath of a person's body being like this. I can see what all the big problems would be about. I'm just feeling lucky so far, if it just stays like this. I'm glad your mother's was manageable. I work in social services and have known of many older people with shingles, and for some it was like they barely knew they had anything and it came and went with no real trouble, then I've known of others who've literally been in agony for weeks and months, with big large patches of the blisters all over. I've just got my fingers crossed that those antivirals keep things relatively mild. I guess I can still get the shot after this clears up, so as to lessen the possibility of any future outbreaks.

Threetree, I am in your pocket for the shingles. My mom had it around where she wore her bra so she went bra less for a long time herself. Have to find out where to get the Shingles vaccine since I have no primary care giver.
Today looks to be reasonable weatherwise, need to check revised hospital schedule to see when I need to go to get Herceptin. Will check shortly.
I am going to stop kicking myself for the late bedtimes. Was 3 am last night, went to bed, thought about a dream and drifted off. Slept maybe 7 hours which is reasonable. Take one thing off the table to be hard on myself for. I am also itching to walk to the hospital again. I have not been out much but get at least a half hour of walking weekly so not exactly starting at 0, may just book the trip home, I will see. I have all the cooling stuff I need, I even use neck fans if warm in the house to give the bedroom fans a break. I will see how I feel later. I do have a hankering for another pizza type thing to have today.
Another thing for me to tackle, one thing done in the house at a time, if laundry is going to be done, see it through the wash, rinse and put in dryer stages. Don't worry about dishes leftover in sink, though there was not a lot left over but would like to be able to run the hot water through the drain, avoid any pesky drain flies. Overall that is working. But followup laundry with clearing sink. Also discovered adding some baking soda to the pan that was still crusty instead of yet another soak, just wiped with baking soda and water. Other items in the chores can be done throughout the day. Showly through the week, I will clear out the recycling and trash, got a lot of flyers to dispose of. I also have my smaller garbage can to use, had to get another lid because it came with a blue lid leading it to be left since they thought was recycle. It is smaller and easier for me to handle than the big one.
I am planning to have green beans heated up with a couple of eggs first, add some ham to the mix. Once they are set up in the microwave, will chop all of it down in my chopper and transfer to a heated pan with generous cooking spray. I might also add some butter rubbed before on bottom of pan, heat the burner, add eggs, ham and bean mix, heat through for a minute or so with garlic spread, let all flavours come together. I do like the method of eggs heated first and chopped when cool, texture thing I think. Later on, am craving some sort of pizza so have a couple of stores to pick it up, not in the mood for the bus as it is on a reduced schedule. I will see how I feel, may try putting together a nutritious nacho type idea with black beans and such, I will see. Change my mind like I change underpants.
Edit to add, wound up trying the spicy tomato type noodle dish, added some cilantro beans on top just to get them used up. Put on for 5 mins in microwave. When they came out, I found a lot of spiciness so added some sour cream to tone it down a bit, some of my spare KD cheese powder and of course sour cream and onion seasoning. It was filling and very good. Still fairly spicy but I do take enzymes and took one immodium because of all the fat in there. Later will have an english muffin with butter and peanut butter. Kiss method of eating, keep it simple stupid.
I hope everyone has a good day and in pockets for everyone who might need me.

Mara - Thanks for the pocket duty re the Shingles. If you can get it, the shot probably is a good idea. Hope your mom didn't get it too badly. I'd probably go braless to, if I had it in that sort of location. Neither of my parents ever got the shot or Shingles, so I didn't think my odds were large that I would get it. Live and learn. Both the pharmacist and I think the Verzenio and Faslodex had me worn down and immunocompromised enough that the Shingles was able to take hold. I know things are a little different in Canada, but can you possibly get the shot at a pharmacy or at your cancer clinic? I know here we have more options like that, rather than just at the primary care doctor's. Sounds like you're busy as ever with the cooking and laundry. I hope you get out for that walk. I'm going to try the same here in a little bit. Have a really good day!

@threetree Glad it's confined to a small area. Ugh, really..well I hope this is your first and last time.
@mara51506 Yes you can get the shingles shot in the US at the pharmacy chains. I had mine scheduled for January but lucky me I got covid lol so ditched the shingles shot after. My sil and bil said they were down for 24 hours when they got their shot. They had flu-like symptoms and that's mostly why I've been dragging my feet on it. I agree Mara so what if you stay up late here and there. You are a busy bee so definitely don't be to hard on yourself for dishes, you'll get to it. In your pocket as well hope you're having a good day!
@irishlove Thinking of you hoping you got some pain relief.
4 -
@threetree So sorry about the shingles. Good thing you were persistent. Hope that your medication regime works and the shingles are defeated.
I got the Shingrex vaccine 6 or 7 years ago. I recall it knocking me out for a weekend but it was worth it. I've known too many people who have gotten shingles and had a lot of pain. In the US, we are able to get it at a pharmacy-no doctor involvement needed. I think it was a two round shot unless I'm mixing it up with the pneumonia vaccine.

Chicagoan - Thanks for the good wishes. So far it's staying about the same; not better, not worse. I'm hoping for the antivirals to work. They're making me feel pretty spacy and tired, but that's fine given the alternatives. I guess it's no cure, but it can lessen the pain and spread. When I'm done with all of this, I understand that I could get the Shingrex shot, but now you are saying it had you down for a couple of days. Cookie said the same about her in-laws. I hadn't heard that about the vaccine before. It will make me think twice, although like you say, it could just be worth it. What I find discouraging is that apparently you can get Shingles over and over again, even if you get the shot, or have had a bout already. I guess the best we can do for Shingles is to reduce the time and severity with the shots and anti-virals, but there is no cure unfortunately. I commend you being brave enough to get the vaccine!

Thank you for the info re Shinrix at the pharmacy, I will definitely look into that
Happy Victoria Day to my fellow Canadians as well, not too bad weather so possible walking post chores.
Laundry started now, sink was almost cleared last night so better for me
Edited, made a quick snack due to hunger. 1/4 cup of elbow macaroni. Just boiled on high, turned off and placed a lid. I wanted to try the cheeseburger powder from Hamburger helper. OMG, it was so good. Only ate a little bit since want to have a better meal later, had to add some sour cream and mix it in, of course bit of the. That cheeseburger powder on its own is fantastic and I loved. Noodles used or possibly put into a bean meal with ham gives it a really nice zing. Delicious seasoning with a few noodles.
I am exploring mixing the inexpensive pasta meals and seasonings with other stuff instead of using the whole box. Seasoned cans of beans combined with seasoning from pasta meals is a less expensive way for me to obtain extra seasonings and get different flavours and pasta to fill up a meal. I could potentially mix seasonings in to frozen pasta etc.
I hope everyone has a good day, in pockets for those who need me.

Mara - It also just occurred to me that we also have walk-in clinics where vaccinations can be had. Maybe you have something similar?
Happy Victoria Day to our Canadian friends too! It makes me think how Canada's lovely city of Victoria is just a bit north of me, how much I like it, and how long it has been since I've been there (a really, really long time). It's just so "Pacific Northwest" like Seattle 😉, except that it has the Parliament buildings and all. A lovely place.

Threetree, thank you for the info on where to possibly get Shinrix.
I was thinking about all the storms in US over last few days, hoping everyone was safe.
I am presently doing a load of laundry. When I was going through the towels, found a Tshirt too small, did not cut it up, just using it for wiping dishes or cleaning the sink. I want to look at the floating lint filters after laundry. May reattach the mesh part as the pull of the washer causes it to slip off and though they are not meant to last forever though. May add a mesh lint grabber to the end of the washer.
Edit, took an old sock with thinner fabric, attached to drain and it drained in a reasonable time. I just have to remember to clean it up in the lint filters and return it, perhaps once a week. Will not bother to buy anything yet. Will place a sock on the other drain of the smaller repaired washer. Scale down lint filters in the washers, only need one floating lint filter per machine as the sock really does catch most of it. Keep all the cat hair and stuff from going down the drain.
I really do not enjoy eggs anymore. the regular format is tiresome, I will need to chop them in with other stuff. The eggs and beans yesterday did not taste good. Ham is getting old too. Going to have to microwave first, let cool and then put in the chopper, just cannot figure out what else to do. Beans are just fine but need eggs too. If I give it a better texture, it can easily be paired with rice or other things in the frypan, like butter and garlic in a sprayed frypan. Also need to return to adding croutons OR chips into the chop too. The hamburger helper noodles can also be helpful, the cheeseburger seasoning in one of the meals is DELICIOUS and can be used for other stuff. Disguise the stuff I am not in love with. Will edit post for any meal additions I may have. Amazon prices are huge for the regulars so for now like KD and pasta dishes. I will need to shop in person or get a Walmart order.
Anyway, hope all have a good day and in pockets for those who need me.

Adding to first post, I am going to do a walmart delivery for groceries, adding some taco bell stuff to it, found the cheesy gordita crunch kit, obviously would be putting my own stuff in the middle, but it is not to expensive. I will be getting more stuff off the Walmart site as the Amazon site has gone bananas in prices, I assume there is no stock and prices skyrocket due to that. Walmart is more reasonable.
As far as the egg conundrum, spraying a bowl and adding a meat pie to it, makes it better with the meatpie inside. Ham will be chopped up small for a meal later.

Ladies,
With a heavy heart and many tears, I’m writing to share some heartbreaking news. I received a message from Sondra’s partner of 21 years, Andreas, who kindly informed me, and gave me permission to share here, that our beloved Sondra passed away on March 5.She was surrounded by her parents and her partner, her “other half,” as she always called him, passed peacefully in London.
He also appreciated to all of you for the support you gave Sondra over the years, saying, “It helped her in so many ways.” "Words still cannot describe what I feel as I've lost my greatest love and best friend. So many countless adventures and experiences over the last twenty years."
This is just a brief note based on his message. Once I gather myself, I’ll share more details. I will ask for permission to share her photo and real name.
I am so deeply saddened. Sondra was my dear friend, and we had so much in common. I can’t stop crying…

Snow-drop-Thank you so much. I am glad to know she was with Andreas and her parents at the end. I'm sorry for your loss too. I really appreciate you letting us know what happened. May she rest in peace.

Oh Sondra, I am so sorry to hear this. I knew the struggles she had to deal with and all the hospital trips she endured. My condolences go out to all family and friends including us here. I am glad she is no longer suffering but the ache will remain for a long time. Hopefully loved ones are remembering her in health and things she did in their lives, we will remember her as a friend and family member here as well.

Ladies, please feel free to post your messages to Andreas.
I will collect and share them with him, your words may bring some comfort and help him through this difficult time.Let’s honor our dear friend Sondra together 💔

Andreas, I am so glad Sondra was with you and her parents. I am sending condolences on a very strong, intelligent woman who still looked after us here with advice and friendship all the while dealing with her battle. I want to say we all are sending support and care and we are in your pocket. Simply put, in your pocket just means we are all there and supporting you.

Andreas, thanks for being a rock for Sondra as she dealt with breast cancer these past several years. She often spoke of you in a very fond way. Sondra was very well respected here. I wanted to meet her last year when I was London but she was already having great difficulty walking so it never happened. I would have liked to have met her face to face. I am glad that her suffering is finally over. May God give you peace and comfort to ease your grief.

I am just so very, very sorry to learn about Sondra's passing. She was a delightful lady and a true asset to this forum. I always enjoyed reading her posts, and was so looking forward to a next one in which she would have told us about the progress she was making there in the hosptial. It wasn't to be, and she will be dearly missed by so many here. I am comforted by the fact that she was with her parents and Andreas when she died. My sincere sympathies to her loved ones and friends.

as I recently shared the heartbreaking news of the passing of our dear friend Sondraf, her real name was Alexa.
Her beloved partner of 21 years, Andreas, kindly wrote back and gave me permission to share her real name and this beautiful photo of the two of them together. you can truly feel the deep love and bond they shared:
Andreas wrote: "We're all still grieving, and next week I will return her ashes to the US where her parents and family live, and have private gatherings to process it all. I have had a hard time, but for the most part I am feeling okay now. Her family is lovely, and we are very close, which has helped a lot."
"I will also really appreciate hearing from others about her impact, and will share the messages with her family when I visit them next week."
"While she was working through all of this, she didn't want to bother anyone with it. She was never one to accept or want the 'I'm so sorry' reply from people. Her family knew, but barely anyone else, and I respected her wish to keep it so and didn't really share it. Now, as we're working through it – and I always knew it would be tough – I want to share with people how great of a person she was."
If you'd like to share a message or tribute, please feel free to post it here. I’ll collect them and pass them along to Andreas so he can share them with her family. It would mean a lot.

She's so pretty. She looked how I thought she might. (I would love to read her obituary if one if available).

I thought she was different in my mind but she is very pretty and they look like a happy couple. Still so sad.

This is for Sondra/Alexa's parents. You two were wonderful supports for Alexa. Even though she sometimes complained, she loved when you fussed over her on her visits. She loved the deep conversations with her dad and the fun gossipy ones with her mom that took her mind off of her pain. I'm sorry that you had to bury your beloved daughter but am grateful how you were there for her until the end. My prayers for God's peace and comfort for your family.

we so loved SondraF stories and sharing. I miss her. Her picture is lovely. Looks like it reflects the happy times.

Andreas, my heart goes out to you and your family. Sondraf (Alexa) was a special person. May she Rest in Peace now.
It is nice seeing pictures of our members here. It makes it so much more personal.

Andreas - my heartfelt condolences to you and Alexa’s family. The one thing I remember most is through all her hospitalizations, she focused on going home. I now know that it was you she wanted to go home to. I’m sorry you didn’t have many more years together but I hope you find comfort in the many memories you have of your time together.

Andreas and family.
My sincere condolences as you all grieve a beautiful angel on earth that gained her wings. Alexa as we see now was beautiful person inside and out. She always found the positive in all the hospital stays and setbacks she endured. Her posts were always uplifting and she always seemed to find the humor in any situation. She still enjoyed baking and her sweet treats as we spoke about recipes we were going to make. Alexa always looked forward to her family visits and just being home with you. We all have missed her presence here and will remember her kind loving spirit forever.May you and your family find comfort in all your fond memories together.

Well, mind is still on Sondra's passing, and still sending support to her family.
I did not sleep last night, did not even go to bed, don't ask why. Nothing going on except an ill advised shopping order that I made last night. I got it off Walmart, Amazon has gone weird with really high prices but I will give it a bit, prices rise when they are out of stock on something. As far as the Walmart order, got a bunch of Taco Bell products, I did not want to pay so much for the gordita crunch kit so decided to get the soft and hard taco kits, the mild meat seasoning. Got some garlic cheesy fingers and lots of stuff. Bought chips, using these mostly as a chopin with beans or whatever I want to keep things crunchy and more variety in flavours. The hamburger helper beef taco seasoning is not the best or worst, just kind of meh but can use in conjunction with the cheese burger and KD seasoning. It will still be good.
Along the food line, will likely do another meat pie egg combo. Spraying bowl down with non stick canola spray, will add some garlic and add salt with a binder, it is actually very good and the egg and meat pie go well, no chopping of the egg needed. I microwave 3 or 4 mins with lid in case egg decides to explode, even with whisking the egg. Might wait until the groceries arrive and add a garlic cheese stick to the mix. I will see. I may also make some stroganoff with some of the beefless ground arriving later. No milk to use and will use limited noodles as well. Future plans will have me cooking and grinding up a frozen burger to mix in with the beefless ground, use the mix within 4 to 5 days, and can dress up an egg.
Laundry will be started soon, sweep and vacuum due, cat are needs some attention since yesterday and that is fine too.
I hope everyone has a great day, in pockets for everyone for tests, treatments and missing Sondra support.

SnowDrop - I just want to say thank you and how nice I think it is that you are doing all that you are for Alexa/Sondra, Andreas, and family. You are giving so many a beautiful gift. You have a big heart.

We, too, are so very sorry to hear of SondraF/Alexa's passing. As is evident on this thread and many others, she was an important and loved part of our community who will be sorely missed. She brought joy, encouragement, and comfort in her participation here and we can only hope that knowing how much she was appreciated and cared for will give her family and friends peace in their grief. Sending hugs to you all ❤️
