Thomas Paine published this on this date in 1776 in his essays on the "American Crisis" during the Revolutionary War and Washington had it read to his troops before they crossed the Delaware. If we remember this message perhaps the next years will remind us that we too can prevail.

“THESE are the times that try men’s souls: The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph.”
I look forward to the triumph.

Love Thomas Paine! He and the other Founding Fathers & Mothers must be rolling in their graves right now.

Here we are at the end of the day and Johnson and House had another vote — this time on the revised CR with mainly what Dolt and Musk asked to be included. Went from 1500 pages to about 16 just so you know a few items were missing.

I'm so on board with Hakeen Jeffries right now. He is going to let the Reps. swing in the wind with their CR. Says the only time Democrats will vote is if they go back to the original one that included the everyday Americans — so many who have been hurt by serious weather events, etc.

It is his view and pretty much mine as well that we did not get hired this time around and it all goes to the Republicans — so since they have put Musk and Dolt in charge, he says have at it. Why should we be the adults in the room when the Reps. hired someone else. Let those hired deal with the CR and keeping the government running - or not!! We did the expected sensible things, and it was bi-partisan as well. If that is not good enough — then let those hired deal with it.

So, even though Johnson vows to keep working up to the mid-night hour tomorrow night, if need be, it looks like the shut-down looms as a high possibility. I can't see Dolt and Musk back-pedaling and it seems like Jeffries is done with the games — so I'm not sure enough could go back into a CR to make Jeffries happy and it is for certain Johnson has to keep pres. Dolt and Musk happy. Not sure then, this thing is doable.

I will say what a start to a new/incumbent four years. Back pedaling already on reducing the cost of groceries and suing and investigations already at top of list along with deportations and pardons for J/6 people — and add in a shut-down of the government. I know the hard-core will not say a word, but I sure do wonder if we might hear quite a bit from those who have already felt disillusioned and or lied to. I quit hearing about a lot of the regrets that started right away when people lost relatives who chose not to share Thanksgiving Dinner with those, they considered traitors in their family — just wondering if some of the 'traitors' will start to see and feel a bit more of the reasoning behind those actions. I really envision that things if left up to people like Musk are going to start going off the deep end rather quickly and transparently.

Unless Republicans defy President Musk-Trump and vote yes on the original plan; I hope Democrats to nothing to save their sorry asses & that the government does shut down. You break it, you own it.

If I acted this way at work, I would have been unemployed and I wish I earned as much for doing nothing.
