I still like that fly -- even a filthy fly won't get on Trump most of the time and gave much more attention to Pence. No wonder Trump was more than happy to do Pence in if he could. Not saying I approve here, no matter how much I detest both Pence and Trump.

Heard an interview tonight with WaPo reporter Elizabeth Drew, who's covered every impeachment proceeding starting with Nixon (she quipped she "had a cold" which was why she missed Andrew Johnson's). She made the point that impeachment is antiquated: it was written into the Constitution before there were political parties. The framers had no idea that decisions would be made not on issues & evidence, but on party-dictated loyalty to the defendant--just as they never foresaw autos, telephones or broadcasting (I would add "advanced heavy weaponry for civilians"). George Washington (after the Constitution was adopted) decried "factions" which while divisive were not part of an organizational framework.

I love all things related to the White House itself. Here's some excerpts from a Time article about the differences between Biden's Oval Office meetings vs. Trump:

Biden prefers to hold meetings in the Oval Office sitting in an armchair next to the fireplace. He often has a slim leather briefing book at his elbow and sometimes balances a slender card on his knee while he's talking, to reference figures and key points he wants to make.

    image

...Trump held court from behind the Resolute Desk, shooting off unpredictable, unscripted comments and belittling rivals as the cameras rolled. The desk was often bare, save a secure telephone and a red button he could press to order a Diet Coke.

Now Trump's soda button is gone, and more than two weeks into his presidency, Biden has brought an abrupt shift in tone. Biden is going about the tough, quiet business of running a country. The sudden change of atmosphere signals that America may be moving past its crisis of democracy, but the other crises the country faces — the pandemic, the economy, structural racism and the changing climate — present daunting tasks for Biden.

"He's lowered the toxic tone of Washington coming from the Oval Office at least, and that's what people were looking for," says Princeton historian Julian Zelizer. Trump used the Oval Office as a site to "launch toxic rhetoric and attack people," Zelizer says, where as Biden is "using it as a site of governing."

Biden's careful approach to his first two weeks on the job comes as a jarring, grinding downshift. And it's not necessarily one that long-time Biden watchers may have predicted. Earlier in his career, Biden earned a reputation as an affable, glad-handing gaffe machine, who often revealed what he was thinking even when that wasn't the most political move. But Biden brought a new discipline to the 2020 campaign trail — much of it forced by the strict pandemic precautions he took — that has carried into his presidency.

I love the above photo which speaks volumes on how Biden chooses to govern vs the last guy. And it's comforting. Sitting by a fireplace, everyone in a comfortable seat, in a circle, paying attention.

I also think the "new discipline" Biden has and brings to the WH is born out of necessity. It shows he's able to assess the needs of, and quickly adapt his approach to the pressing issues of our country. The new discipline is needed because there are so many fires to put out. Biden's objective is to stop the massive incompetence of Trump and then steer our nation into a different direction. It is the pendulum swinging the opposite way from the free fall Trump had us in.

Our attitude tells the world what we expect in return. If it's a cheerful, expectant attitude, it says to everyone with whom we come in contact that we expect the best in our dealings with the world. You see, we tend to live up to our expectations. And others give to us, as far as their attitudes are concerned, what we expect. Our attitude is something we can control. We can establish our attitude each morning when we start our day--in fact, we do just that, whether or not we realize it. And the people in our family--all the people in our world--will reflect back to us the attitude we present to them. It is, then, our attitude toward life that determines life's attitude toward us. Cause and effect. Everything we say or do will cause a corresponding effect. If we're cheerful, glad to be experiencing this miracle of life, others will reflect that good cheer back to us. We are the kind of people others enjoy being around.

Sandy your article was quite interesting. I do and have thought for some time that serious up-dating needs to take place in so many areas where the Constitution, and or things like impeachment, and how subpoena's work, and how easy or not to change things that are wrong -- like restore what other people have wrecked as in Trump squashing so many regulations to the point of harm to citizens -- and how incompetent people can be put into positions where they should not be etc.

So much of what Trump did ( because he was allowed to do it ) needs to have serious adjustments either to the things he did, or do the offices or titles of those who let him do it. It was far to easy for him to be a wrecking ball while we all had to watch in horror and dismay. Seems like we almost need a group just to study how Trump governed and set about finding ways to make adjustments where reason and sanity are much more likely than the chaos, disharmony and destruction he was always causing.

It has been heaven so far to have the steady hand of Biden at the reins.

Appears to me that Ron Johnson has jumped through all sorts of hoops to prove that he is a really good Trumpie. Don't know if he is just that nuts or what ? I think he was also in the group of ? 8 or so who went to Russia some time after Trump took office so he is willing to apparently be happier with another form of government rather than ours just for starters. He has been usually quick to absolve Trump of anything negative and heap all sorts of blame onto us.

That side chests and lies and suppresses and yet we are the ones who 'make' all the ills and troubles and are to blame for what is wrong. Well, I think I will go with the piece ( was it yours Divine ) that says that rather than getting totally enveloped ( good way to sidetrack ) in what all of the Reps. want to throw on the wall just fairly quietly do the work and REALLY help the U.S. get as far back on stable ground as we can. Covid handled, economy -- all the things that have been discussed -- just keep working and handle them and let the other side drown in being what they are -- the actual people who have held everyone down and stopped the good parts of the business of governing from actually taking place.

As far as Trump and whether or not he has early Dementia so what. The Reps. showed no real enthusiasm for cooling his jets at any time during the last four yrs. They found every reason possible to look the other way no matter what he did. That said -- while most of us could do nothing but sadly stand by, the proof is in the pudding. Come election time even though he got 73,000,000 votes Biden got 7,000,000 more than that. So we took care of his dementia -- no matter what stage it was in. The Reps. didn't do squat -- but get in the way and tried to help him find ways to nullify Pres. Biden.

    Great memes, Jackie.

I truly think Trump has some early stage dementia going on. But the Republican’s good old boy network shamelessly enabled him for four years, very well knowing what they were covering for.

From the official Biden FB page today:

    image

I see people on my county health dept's page constantly asking, “where's the vaccine? Why haven't I been called,” and I see similar comments from around the country. I don't think people understand how it all works, how long it takes to make the vaccine and get it distributed and shipped out. Did you see the 60 Minutes segment where the whole process was explained? It’s quite mind-boggling.

Not to mention that dildo Don had no distribution plan in place. Biden had to start from scratch and is already improving upon it.

The question I aways wonder: how many of these people bitching about when they are gonna get the vaccine were ones saying a couple months ago that they’d never get it? Or voted for Don thinking he was actually going to move the process along?

It does seem like there’s much more public service information floating about everywhere to educate everyone on the vaccine.

Johnson (good little model Aryan that he is) & the rest of the Repugs are throwing their lot behind the racist/homophobic/theocratic/sexist base--and in order to get & keep their votes, the price is loyalty to Cult45. Why does he think 1/6 wasn't an "armed insurrection?" Because the rioters didn't shoot anyone (despite many carrying automatic weapons, tasers, & IEDs). His reasoning is that even if you're using pikes, projectiles, improvised battering rams, etc., you're not "armed."

Ruth, I got a great chuckle from your baseball bat remark to what Sandy posted about jerk-off Johnson.

And a couple of Biden's memorable remarks from last night's town hall:

“I'm tired of talking about Donald Trump. I don't want to talk about him anymore."

"For four years, all that's been in the news is Trump. For the next four years, I wanna make sure the news is the American people."
