I am in heavy duty dislike of Joel Osteen, his Church and I wouldn't read ANY of his books if that were the only ones not banned and still on library shelves. He disgusts me. I was leery of him for a long time and then I heard him say that God wanted him to HAVE all the millions he has managed to rake in with his con artistry.

Former speaker Kevin McCarthy will retire from Congress at end of year (Washington Post)Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), the former House speaker who was ousted from his position in October in a revolt by hard-right members, will not seek reelection to his congressional seat and will retire from Congress at the end of this month, he announced Wednesday.
“I have decided to depart the House at the end of this year to serve America in new ways,” McCarthy said in a Wall Street Journal op-ed. “I know my work is only getting started.”
McCarthy’s retirement will bring to an end a 16-year House career that saw him quickly rise through the ranks of Republican leadership, culminating with his stint as speaker. His ouster marked the first time in history that the House voted to remove its leader, a move that threw the chamber into a period of instability.
McCarthy’s term was set to end in January 2025. He represents California’s 20th District, which covers much of the state’s Central Valley.
McCarthy’s decision comes in the wake of an announcement Tuesday by one of his closest allies, Rep. Patrick T. McHenry (R-N.C.), that he is retiring at the end of his term. McHenry served as acting speaker during the three weeks in October after McCarthy’s ouster.
McCarthy will join the more than three dozen House members who have announced they will not seek reelection in 2024, because they are either retiring or seeking other office.

Hunter Biden's lawyer reiterated that the president's son will only testify publicly before the House Oversight Committee.

Hunter Biden, the president's son, is reiterating that his testimony before Congress will only be public.
In a letter to Rep. James Comer, the Kentucky Republican who chairs the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability, Biden's lawyer, Abbe Lowell, said the offer to testify publicly was in response to Comer's own remarks on at least three occasions. Comer previously rejected Biden's Nov. 28 offer to publicly testify before his panel, saying any testimony would have to be behind closed doors.
"As indicated in my November 28, 2023, letter, Mr. Biden has offered to appear at a hearing on the December 13, 2023, date you have reserved, or another date this month, to answer any question pertinent and relevant to the subject matter stated in your November 8, 2023, letter," Lowell wrote. "He is making this choice because the Committee has demonstrated time and again it uses closed-door sessions to manipulate, even distort, the facts and misinform the American public—a hearing would ensure transparency and truth in these proceedings."
The development comes as House Republicans inch closer to a vote to officially begin an impeachment inquiry into President Biden. Last month, Comer sent subpoenas to Hunter Biden, the president's brother James Biden and other family members and business associates, directing them to appear for depositions and transcribed interviews – one more sign the impeachment inquiry into the president was entering a new phase.

House Republicans have raised questions about what they say are Hunter Biden's questionable business dealings, and have made him a key part of their impeachment inquiry into the president, though there is no evidence yet of illegal activity on the part of the president.
Still, the controversy surrounding the younger Biden does appear to be registering with the public. An NPR poll from early October shows that 63% of respondents believe President Biden has done something unethical or illegal in relation to his son's business dealings. The split is along partisan lines: Nine in 10 Republicans think Biden's done something wrong. Only 1 in 3 Democrats do.

Divine, thanks. Glad to hear McCarthy has finally chosen to reveal his intentions. Likely he too will be looking for some lobbyist position. It is the next best way to wield influence and make money too. Hopefully we would never get a 'book' out of him.
Many of the Reps are leaving I'm reading due to the flailing and failing condition of their party. I do think it has been (especially under the Loon) a bit more honest about what they have been working on and trying to accomplish since Reagan. I'm hoping that the continuance will actually destruct that party enough that it will have to start over.
You'd think they would be a bit more astute about what their issues are as a party but like the Loon they now seem disinterested in trying to clean up errors and other missteps. They just march on as though nothing will ever change, and they will get exactly what they think they want. We see something that appears to be REALLY dying on the vine in an ugly way and they see nothing at all. Guess that is what I fin not only amazing but really disturbing. What can you repair if you won't even admit it might be very broken.
