Found a lump..

edited October 2021 in Not Diagnosed But Worried

27 year old female. This week I noticed the underside of my right breast was sore and I instinctively felt, when I touched it I immediately noticed it felt dense and could feel a small knot/lump, when I press on it it i can feel pain in my nipple as well. For months I have thought my right breast is changing shape subtly compared to my left. I have implants so they are identical and I noticed pretty quickly that my right started to take a different shape and the nipple almost doesn't poke out anymore like the left side. It lays flat in comparison. I have never had anything on my breasts, I'm not one to get cysts on my breast only my ovaries. It is painful to the touch but otherwise doesnt bother too much, however last night i noticed if I sleep on my right side that my breast feels sore. Also out of no where I get sharp pains in my armpits, I've always assumed it was nerve pain since this is where my incisions ar from my breast augmentation in 2017. The sharp pains are relatively new though they haven't always happened. I'm going to make an appointment Monday but just wanted to have some insight from others on how to go about this, questions to ask etc. Breast and ovarian cancer runs in both sides of my family. I've already had a tumor on my right ovary that was thankfully benign. I have not had any genetic testing yet. This may be unrelated but worth mentioning, right after I had my daughter in April 2019, I had severe swelling and redness in the exact spot that I'm feeling this lump now. I wasn't breastfeeding at the time but my milk had just come in the week prior and I chalked it up to that/mastitis. After a few weeks it went away and I never thought more about it. It just dawned on me that this was the exact same location.

Any advice is appreciated!

Also can you please describe when you discovered your first lump, was it painful, was it hard or soft? Where was the location? I have anxiety and talking through all of this, asking ALL of the questions, this helps me pass time until I can get answers. Otherwise I hyper fixate and give myself an anxiety attack.

Hi Shannon. Sorry you are facing this. Yes, do make an appt to get in for an exam. You could have a cyst, a fat necrosis from your implant surgery, or some other really normal benign condition. None of us can guess (with any knowledge) what it is. That's what the doctor is for.

When you call for your appointment, do remind them that you have a history of cancers in your family. If they don't have an opening for you "soon," ask if you can be put on a waiting list for cancellations, if that is something you could possibly do.

Good luck, and let us know what you find out.

Thank you! I am definitely going to stress to them that I need to be seen. I wasn’t taken seriously about my tumor on my ovary unfortunately which taught me to advocate for myself.

Small update, I was able to make an appointment but my doctor couldn’t get me in until October 21st so I’m going to be anxiety ridden for the next few weeks.

Shannon412, most lumps, specially at your age are benign. You have done the right thing to schedule an appointment.

I found my lump accidentally. It was not painful but I had a general discomfort especially when sleeping on my belly. My breast was getting bigger and my doctor brushed it off as well. So please make sure to advocate for yourself if you feel like something is not right.

I’m praying it is nothing serious. I had a traumatic experience and almost died when dealing with the tumor on my ovary so I’m definitely going to advocate for myself to be taken seriously.

Glad you have an appointment Shannon even if a ways out there yet..... Do what you can to focus on what's right in front of you during the wait... take a little more time for relaxation and enjoyment even if this is hovering.... Please let us know what the doc says.... Sending support and gentle hugs

I am really bummed it’s going to be a few weeks but this is my old doctor that I adore and trust with my life so I know she will take me seriously. Her opinion is worth the wait for me! I will keep this thread updated! Thank you for your kind words!

    Hi Shannon!

I actually am having this same issue. I have implants as well (under the muscle), and I’m worried that my left one is “bottomed out” or something else is going on, which is what brought me here. I have an appt with my plastic surgeon in a few weeks and then at a breast specialist a few weeks after that, but I’m so worried. Feel pain in my arm and shoulder too. Let me know if you hear anything sooner please, and I’ll do the same.

I’m really nervous it’s something wrong with my implant as well but the only thing that makes me think otherwise is having found a few more lumps on my other breast as well. I think the chances of both implants having some sort of issue is slim but so is this being cancer. I just want to rule everything out because something is definitely not right and needs to be addressed. Fingers crossed for you!! My plastic surgeon moved to Boca Raton so I’d have to find a different one to se

I found a different one as well because I got them done in Chicago but have since moved back home to Saint Louis.

I just called a plastic surgeon near me that I know is popular and told them I was wanting to get a consultation for a possible lift and implant exchange. Said I noticed changes in one of my breasts and was afraid it was my implant, so I wanted a professional opinion. I figured, regardless of when I’d really get new implants, it would be a great place to get the ball rolling if they noticed something familiar/strange.

idk the etiquette on this page, but I would be happy to exchange numbers to exchange any info I get or you do!

    Shannon,

Is it possible for you to call your doctor back to get on a wait list? October 21 is a ways away… I guess in the grand scheme of things it's not that far away, but for someone with anxiety (myself included,) that's torture.

I wish you the best. Glad you are doing your due diligence to get it checked out. We have to be our own best advocates.

Doctor appointment update! I had an appointment scheduled with an amazing OB that delivered my son 8 years ago, I have been dying to get back to her but my insurance changed/we moved and it never worked out until now. Well, due to unforeseen circumstances she was not available on the day of my appointment so I saw her NP who is amazing too. She felt my right breast and immediately noticed the one on the underside of my breast but didn’t initially feel the one on the side until I sat up and showed her. She estimated the one on the underside at 5mm according to her notes. She’s put an order in for a diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound. I unfortunately couldn't get an appointment until November 15th :/ so I’m pretty bummed about that. More waiting. I’m hoping it’s something wrong with my implant and this is just a process of me checking the boxes of things it’s NOT. My plastic surgeon is practicing and living in Boca now so he suggested I get everything else ruled out before I fly out to him. My anxiety is at an all time. I’m going to keep busy with my handsome hubby and 3 babies to pass the time
