Phesgo

Diagnosed July 2024, started treatment Aug 24 with 7 cycles of chemotherapy with EC x3 Docetaxol x4 , completed December 24
Surgery in the form of therapeutic mammoplasty with removal of tumour bed
Managed 16 out of 18 cycles of phesgo for HER2 positive BC ( last injection 18.8.24)
Radiotherapy x10 with boost for the last 5 sessions (march 24)
Tumour bed removal ( January 24) and mri scan showed complete response
Currently On anastrozole for ER positive BC and bisphosphonates too
Has anyone out there managed to complete their 18cycles of phesgo ?
I struggled laterly with all sorts of niggly infections and problems which made me feel quite low , my ejection fraction dropped by 10% so have had to start ramipril as per protocol I had Covid , a wound infection and an awful reaction to the shingles vaccination and am still left with a rash 5 months later
It was all going so well & I never missed any treatment due to low counts / illness
I made the call to stop phesgo after cycle 16 and now I’m starting to feel stronger and fitter
Was this the right call??
I think it was for me
comments would be helpful

Hi. I hope you're doing well and have rebounded from all the side-effects since you stopped the Phesgo. I just got my second injection today. I'll hit the 2 month mark since my 1st shingles vaccine next week and will need to get my 2nd shot within the next 4 months. I'm trying to figure out the best timing for that. How far into the Phesgo treatment period were you when you got your shingles vaccine? Did your rash from the vaccine ever clear up? I'm wondering if it would be better to get the vaccine now, after only my 2nd dose of Phesgo, or wait until later in the treatment process. I'm thinking sooner is probably better than later. Just wondering what your experience was like. Thanks!

Hi @sunnystride and welcome. While they say that Shingrix is safe for people with compromised immune systems, it's best talk with your doctor while on Phesgo to make sure your immune system is okay for it, as well as to maximize the optimal vaccine effectiveness and minimize potential risks. So, bottom line, it's important to talk with your doctor about the best timing!

@moderators - Thanks! Yes, I've already discussed this with my doctor. He's fine with me getting the 2nd dose any time during the standard dosing period, which is 2 mos to 6 mos after the 1st dose. He says the timing in that window doesn't matter. So I'm just looking to hear what experiences others have had, in case there is any anecdotal evidence that it's better to do it earlier or later in that window.

@griffisu — could you come back and share with @sunnystride your experience?
We're thinking of you both!
