Anyone have 2 different BC diagnosed at the same time?!?!

I had originally been diagnosed with ADH with papillary changes. Was told it was "uncommon and complex". Decided to go to MDA for second opinion. 1 month later they redo my MRI and find thr ADH area is 10 cm and diffuse, and second breast now has NME. Biopsy determines 10 cm is DCIS grade 3, ER/PR+/HER2- and other NME is IDC 8 mm and DCIS TN. Im shocked and blown away. Hard to find anyone in the same boat so looking for support if it's possible.

I had two different types of BC in the same breast. One tumor was Pure Mucinous bc, triple positive. The other was IDC of no special type, HR+, PR-, HER2+. My MO said I was the first patient she's had with my situation. Since both tumors were Her2 positive it didn't change my treatment plan. Your situation seems even more unique, so I don't know if I'm any help. They will still be able to come up with a good plan for you!

@maggiehopley so, funny you mention the mucinous, because my path report shows the first area we were aware of had mucin production and a "mucocele like lesion" not sure how relevant this is to my diagnosis but guess I will find out Wednesday when we meet with everyone at MDA.

I had IBC and IDC; I believe this "combo" is fairly common, relatively speaking. My treatment focused on the IBC since it is much more aggressive.

i had dcis in one breast and idc in the other breast at the same time. had lumpectomy and radiation only to idc breast. it was decided the the dcis was small and mild and i was going to get aromatse inhibitor anyway, and i can alwyas have radiation if needed another time. that was 23 years ago.

5 years ago i had another idc with metastatic disease at the time the lump was found, so was treated with ibrance and letrazole for 4 months and id wasnt working, they switched me to keytruda which i am still successfully taking for 5 years.

last week my MO sent me for a mammo because she said i was stable for so long i should take a mammo. well guess what another cancer! this one is actually embedded in the clip from the originial dcis (23 years ago). i am going to have it removed in a couple of weeks, but first i'm having a pet scan to make sure i have no metastatic disease. right now they are calling this cancer a recurrance of the initial dcis.

so yes it is possible to get several different breast cancers over your life time.

I had both ILC and IDC, in different quadrants. The 2nd tumor was not seen on mammogram but MRI found it. Combing the literature for case reports on how common this was, I found little data. That led me to believe there could be an inherited genetic mutation.

@lg2009 Congratulations on going to MD Anderson! They’re probably the best in the US. My brother drove us around the incredible Houston medical campus 5 years ago, just before the pandemic. I had to look up NME, it means non-mass enhancement.

Best wishes to you for successful treatment.

IDC and DCIS are very commonly found together as IDC arises from DCIS. I remember thinking I was a cancer over achiever when I was first dx’ed, but that combo is very common.

@lg2009, we wanted to let you know that we have a specific forum dedicated to Mixed Type Breast Cancer. You might find it helpful to explore and post there too.
