Cancer Tratment for 5 years on Stradexa
Thank you for sharing this page. I find it most interesting and informative.
I am 76 years old. I do have Charcot Marie Tooth Muscular Distrophy. Had Mastectomy.
Very active and healthy in every other way. I am trying to maintain that. But the side effects, and the little devels are creeping in. The predicted and expected side effects of both the cancer treatments and Muscular situation happens to be the same.
I am in third year of using Stradexa (Anastrozole)
Does anyone have any knowledge as to the effects of Anastrozole on the Neuro side of MD?
The Myalin is to thin. Can Anastrolzole worsen this? Allthough I do have the typical hand and feet muscular problems, I am very gratful that it is not yet a debilitating handicap. Having said that, at my age, I am between 2 fires. I do not want one or the other to worsen.
A blessed time for all. Kind Regards.

Hi @fab1948, It's hard to deal with competing priorities when you have multiple health concerns. I don't know about demyelination regions for types of MD but DH has demyelination in the center of his brain which causes balance problems most likely from migraines. Because of that I have read some about this topic. Estrogen and testosterone are protective against white matter lesions so theoretically AIs would be detrimental. There are studies that claim tamoxifen is beneficial to WMLs. Exercise has also been shown to be helpful in mice.
Most of the research has been done on lab animals rather than humans so how well the results translate to people is uncertain. Your symptoms are probably the best indication of whether anastrazole is causing problems. If you do notice worsening symptoms you could discuss switching to tamoxifen with your doctor. I hope you continue to hold steady. All the best.
