Estrogen prohibitor meds

Has anyone tried Anestrosole and Exemestane and have horrific leg pain. I've given up.

It wakes me up and it hurts all day. They say you must take one of these for 5 years. There is no way I can do this without taking a strong pain/antiinflamatory.

Discouraged

Liz

    Hi @healthygirl.11

Welcome to the forum. Sorry for the reason that brought you here, but very glad you found us.

Maybe you could ask your MO if you could try a different AI—possibly Femara/Letrozole? I think there are at least 3 different ones.

Some people do better on one than another.

    Worth a try maybe?

    Best of luck to you.

Yes, you can try other AI’s, as they are all estrogen inhibitors (not prohibitors). Please search this site for threads on Anastrozole, Letrozole, and Exemestane for tips on coping with side effects. Take care

Hi @healthygirl.11, and welcome to Breastcancer.org.

We're so sorry for the reasons that bring you here, but we're really glad you've found us. As you can already see, our community is a wonderful source of advice, information, encouragement, and support — we're all here for you!

Here's some information on Aromatase Inhibitors (AIs). As Mandy and Exbrnxgrl shared, many members have had success switching to another AI if they have troubling side effects from one. There are three AIs used to treat breast cancer:

You may also be able to consider another type of hormonal therapy called tamoxifen.

Some more info that you might find helpful:

And, as mentioned, searching the forums for threads about these medications will offer you a wealth of information and real-life experiences, though everyone's experience is a bit different.

We hope this helps and that you find some relief soon!
