How often do you get an MRI to check on the integrity of your implants (if at all)?

Options

Today I went in for my final 6-month visit. They offered to order an MRI to check on the integrity of the implants, even though there are no signs of trouble with them. Is it normal to get an MRI on my implants just because they are five years old?

Mine are 13 years old and other than a manual palpating by my mo, I’ve never had an mri or imaging to specifically check for implant integrity.

Ok thanks exbrnxgrl. I think the clinic I go to is very aggressive. Look at my stats - they still put me on OS+AI!

My plaster surgeon said that typical rec is to do MRI every 5 years to check integrity of implants but he thought that was too much .he said it would be ok to push it out if no problems by a few years.

I'm interested in this thread. I'll be coming up on 10 yrs post reconstruction this fall. My plastics doc was of the opinion that the MRI interval guidance is/was too conservative and that it's not worth the radiation exposure unless a problem is suspected. I've not (yet) had an MRI and would like to avoid another surgery for replacement of the implants for as long as possible. Thanks for the answer above re: 13 yrs. Anyone else out there who has gone 13 yrs or longer? Thx.
