Recurrence of Triple Negative

Hello, it has been many years since I visited this site, but I am seeking support and guidance on how to attack a triple negative recurrence. I had original diagnosis over 20 years ago, had lumpectomy/chemo/rad, and had a recurrence in 2018 in my breast. Mastectomy/chem for that treatment phase. This morning I learned that I have a 3 cm lymph node that is a recurrence near the supraclavicular area/collar bone. I had hit the 5 year mark, approaching 6 years, so this is very frightening to have a third battle before me. My oncologist is tryng to swiftly schedule a PET scan and official biopsy, but she feels certain my triple negative cancer has returned. Any advice, and are there any long term survivors out there that successfully treated a regional recurrence like this? Thanks for your love and prayers.

@ky73 Sorry to hear you are dealing with another recurrence. I had my second recurrence around the 4.5 year mark which was a locoregional axillary recurrence. It was treated with chemo/immunotherapy , surgery and rads. I found that since my initial treatment in 2016 that the options for TNBC had very much improved. We have many more options that we had just even a couple of years ago. I feel like our overall life expectancy is more optimistic than it was before.

I hope you get the PET done quickly so you can get a plan going to feel a little more settled. It is very frightening for sure but we are all here for you. One step at a time and your MO will get a plan together to beat back this recurrence. Sending strength and hope for your PET scan. Keep us posted, hugs❌⭕️

PET scan is this morning. Thank you for reaching out with encouragement. Praying for strength as I learn results today and meet with my oncologist this afternoon to start getting a plan of attack together. 🙏

    Hi ky73

Thinking of you this morning and hoping that your oncologist put a plan together, and that that lymph node has been playing goalie and keeping the cancer contained.

Hi @ky73, we too are thinking of you today! Have you received your PET results?

I received my PET scan results. Cancer was found in two areas- the Supraclavicular node and a second area in a subpectoral node, both in the region of my original cancer. Good news was no sign of cancer in my bones or organs. Biopsy is scheduled for Friday and we are anticipating triple negative again. It's scary reading about grim prognosis of Supraclavicular spread of cancer, but my oncologist was very optimistic that we can treat this successfully. Thanks to each of you for your prayers and support.

@ky73 Sorry to hear your PET was positive but glad all else looks clear. Hope your biopsy goes smoothly and you can move on to treatment when you know for sure what type you're dealing with. Definitely positive that your MO is optimistic. Hugs.
