How long on anastrozole?

Options

My doc wants me to stop taking anastrozole after 5 years (1.5 on tamoxifen). I've had two fractures, last one a year and a half ago. I'm osteopenic. Side effects are manageable, I'm fortunate to live by myself 😄. I'm a bit scared to stop... anyone else out there afraid to quit?

I finished 5 yrs of AI last March. My MO suggested doing the BCI test to see if it was beneficial to continue. In my case, it was no benefit. I do understand that an AI made me feel safe in a way but there are side effects to consider. I didn’t see the point in taking a med that had no benefit anymore.
Would the BCI test be appropriate for you? Has your MO brought it up?

I just got BCI results. (Breast Cancer Index). Many people do not benefit from years 6-10 and some do. I would ask your doctor about having BCI testing before deciding. I’ve read many of the BCI studies and think it’s worthwhile. AIs are not risk free, so why take them without knowing you will benefit?
