is this site still active? What I just read was from 2021 and it's 2025?

I am 82 years old and have just had a mastectomy of my left breast two months ago. I have DCIS and Invasive carcinoma, ER positive, PgR Neg, and Her2 Negative stage II, Invasive carcinoma in Sentinel lymph node. The oncologist wants me to take both Ibrance and Anastrozole for 5 years. Really debating if I should take these meds at my age. I have artificial knees and a fused back and can't walk much at this time. Reading all the side effects is it worth lengthening my life by reducing the QUALITY?
Please advise

Hi @conley42, Sometimes it’s hard to decide what to do. I was diagnosed stage II with a positive node when 13 years younger than you are now. I had an oncoplastic lumpectomy with whole breast and axillary radiation but declined the AIs for a variety of reasons, one of them hoping to preserve my mobility by not aggravating my orthopedic problems. Oncologists often make the same recommendation whatever the age of the patient. In the past some MO’s would propose a less aggressive regimen for older patients but now don’t want to be accused of ageism.. These drugs statistically reduce the risk of recurrence over a ten year time frame but don’t guarantee the cancer won’t return. Some people live to be 100 but that is not common. You need to decide which course of action will support your goals for whatever time you have left. All the best.
