Exemethsane, letrozole or anastrozole

Hello! I was following a thread and can’t find it, so I apologize if it exists. I was on tamoxifen for five years, finished menopause and started letrozole. The joint pain in my hips became unbearable ((I play volleyball so I’m semi athletic.) Went off letrozole for two weeks and pain was gone. Switched to exemethsane and now have pain and swelling in my hands and I’ve started having migraines with aura and pain in my knees. Now I know I’m getting older and some symptoms could be that… but has anyone else experienced any of this? Would anastrozole be any different?

I finished 5 years of AI last year. I have tried all 3 of them. Seems like people can tolerate some more than others. I had joint pain on all of them. Exemestane seemed to bother my hands the most. Letrozole caused more knee and hip pain. I had the strangest side effect from Anastrozole, diarrhea. Must have been a filler used in drug. You can always give Anastrozole a chance.
My MO did a BCI test to see if staying on Letrozole beyond 5 years was beneficial.
For my situation, it offered no benefit so she had me stop the medication.
Is there a particular reason your MO wants you to continue? Is the BCI test appropriate for your situation?

I had the BCI test and the recommendation was that I continue on meds as it would be beneficial.

That anastrozole diarrhea? Take a look at the list of "inactive ingredients:" sometimes the dyes or minerals used as dyes, excipients or binders can have a laxative effect—especially if one of those ingredients contains magnesium. Ask your pharmacy if they can obtain a different manufacturer's generic; if after you switch the pain disappears, then you know the culprit was an inactive ingredient.

Anytme you induce estrogen deprivation, the musculoskeletal aging process can accellerate. Perhaps you may have seen the those annoying drug ads. Talk to your primary doc about what you can do to alleviate the pain (anti-inflammatories both oral & topical).

Chisandy I am done with therapy but good advice for anyone experiencing diarrhea. I just went back to the devil I knew, Letrozole.

mkparr my MO did prescribe Meloxicam and Voltaren topical cream to help with joint pain. I forgot to mention that but chisandy’s response just made think of it. Exercise really helped me. Didn’t experience pain during exercise. Just got very stiff when I wasn’t moving. Let’s face it. We can’t move 24/7!
Hope you find something that helps you going forward. It is so hard dealing with the estrogen deprivation.
