Next Steps??

hi I was just diagnosed a few weeks ago .I did have surgery and had two small tumors removed one was micro IDC andDCIS grade 3 one was 4 mm IDC ER positive HERS2 + Grade 3 I was told with lumpectomy ,hormone therapy and radiation. The risk factors for reoccurrence were the same as a total mastectomy. My biggest worry has been the HERS2 + and Grade 3. What I have been told the protocol is chemo and HERS2 treatment are done together. I am 66 years old and the risks from chemo are high I may be able to get HERS2 treatment with a trial. I need to learn more about this to see what the drugs are what the dangers side effects are and if I could end up with a placebo? So many questions at a very stressful time !

    Hi again @pamweygus!

Here's some info on Triple-Positive Breast Cancer and the common chemotherapy regimen you'll likely receive, TCHP, which stands for Taxotere + Carboplatin + Herceptin + Perjeta.

Also, some extensive information about Clinical Trials for breast cancer, how they work, questions to ask, risks to consider, and how to make sure you're not receiving a placebo. From the above link:

"In randomized trials, you’re assigned at random (by a computer) to get a specific treatment, and you could receive standard therapy rather than the newer treatment. Some people find this uncertainty quite difficult. Some cancer clinical trials may use a placebo, an inactive treatment that resembles the real treatment. However, if there is an effective standard treatment available for your cancer, you will always receive at least that in addition to the placebo."

We hope this helps give you a little info so that you can talk with your doctor about what to expect and ease your anxiety about what's to come.

Sending hugs and let us know if we can help further!
