Anyone on Gemzar Alone of MBC?

I have seen many people getting Gemzar with Carboplatnin but not Gemzar alone. My Onc thinks there is not difference in OS (overall survival) just more toxicities. I saw that on one study they had the same OS but I get different information from reading other articles. How long were you on Gemzar and how successful was it? It is my 7th line of treatment I've had longer than 3 months. Thanks :))

    Hi @ninaca,

We’re sorry you haven’t received answers from other members yet. We hope our post will help and that you’ll get insights from others who have experience with Gemzar alone soon. Perhaps you could also try posting in the Chemotherapy forum.

    Good luck!

Hi Ninaca, it seems there are not many of us. I just started gemcitabine as my 16th line of treatment and came here to see others' experience. It has knocked the socks off of me (or more literally, has knocked me flat). I've been dealing with ascites from peritoneal mets too. I've had two gemcitabine infusions, and just about two days after the infusion I've gotten long and lengthy fevers. I haven't gone to the ER because I've been pretty sure that it was the drug not infection and plus I wasn't even sure I could make it to the car etc. I just wanted to sleep. And truthfully the rest of the week isn't much fun either.

My oncologist didn't say (and I didn't ask) why just one - but I think the combos are used for TNBC and early lines? I can't imagine if I had a second drug. Also, I am not BRCA+, which I think is why they add platinums?

I'm really glad to hear that you've made it more than 3 months on gemcitabine - one never know which drugs might work.

For the the first time I'm really contemplating stopping a treatment.

(PS that was an amazing length of time you had at NED on Femara/letrozole!)
