Waiting for biopsy results, scary!

Found a lump just below my collarbone, referred for diag. mammogram and ultrasound. The mammogram didn't show anything as the lump is so high but the ultrasound was Birad 5 with irregular hypoechoic mass with irregular margins, echogenic rind, internal vavascularity and posterior shadowing, possible involvement of underlying pectoral involvement! All sounds BAD! Waiting on biopsy results and trying to get a surgical referal as I wait as I'm supposed to leave on a long planned trip April 4-15 and worried about canceling (to see new grandbaby!) Luckily the biopsy doctor said it appeared small (2cm) and lymph nodes appear clear. Worried our travel plans will interfer with getting a plan started before things get worse!

Hi @livinglong, I’m sorry that you have to join us here but this is a good site for information and support. It is best to have surgery three to eight weeks after diagnosis. It would be ideal if you could see a breast surgeon before you leave to schedule a date for surgery after you get back. With a tumor that size chemo, if needed, would most likely be done post surgery. Otherwise, if you set up an appointment for right after you return you would still be able to have surgery within the recommended timeframe (my surgery was done six and a half weeks after diagnosis.) I hope you have a wonderful trip. Congratulations on the birth of your granddaughter.

Still waiting on typing, but is identified as Invasive Ductal Carcinoma with suspected with the underlying pectoral wall. Surgical consult scheduled for April 20. My lesion was hard to find, I just luckily felt it (located very high just under my collarbone so didn't show up in my annual mammogram or the Dignostic mammogram. The ultrasound and biopsy caught it. My CRP results have been running really high for about a year but doctor and I couldn't figure out why but I'm fairly certain the cancer may be why. I will be calling the Nurse Navigator tomorrow to see if I can meet with her and should have the typing by the end of the week.

The advocate at the breast center made feel a lot better about the wait , said with my age (72) it would be fine to take my trip and I shouldn't worry too much about it getting worse in that time!
