SGAP Flap reconstruction
Has anyone had an SGAP Flap done? I’m considering it and looking for any information I can get. I’m not a candidate for implants or DIEP flap. Had a DMX end of Sept with tissue expanders. Infection on the right side and had to remove that TE. I still have the TE on the left side and was just going to have them do an implant for that side. Radiation on the right side back in 2019 is why I got the infection. Not sure what to do.

You are not alone in looking into SGAP flap. Many members here have considered or chosen this type of reconstruction when DIEP or implants were not good options. Experiences can vary. Some feel it is a good alternative using their own tissue, while others share that recovery can take a bit more time since it is a more involved procedure.Given what you have been through with radiation and infection, it makes a lot of sense that you are exploring different paths. It might also help to ask about your surgeon’s experience with SGAP, since that can play an important role in outcomes.
