Thank you for offering this community.
I had my simulation appointment May 21 and am WAITING for the June 24 start date. Apparently scheduling is way backed up. I will be having 20 daily treatments Mon-Fri. Since there is a holiday in there, I should be done July 22. This is whole breast radiation (previous lumpectomy removed the cancer) for 15-16 days and boost radiation to just tumor bed the other 4-5 days.

I had a lumpectomy and bilateral breast reduction on 5/5. My simulation appt is on 6/16. Hoping to start radiation the first week of July. I was given the choice of 1 vs 3 weeks of radiation. Same dosage just consolidated. Haven’t yet decided which treatment length to go with.

I started radiotherapy yesterday and am already extremely fatigued, is this normal?

Hi @dungo70, anad welcome to the community! We're sorry you find yourself here, but we're glad you've joined us.
Fatigue is one of the most common side effects of radiation therapy. While it often builds gradually over the course of treatment, some people do notice feeling very tired from the very beginning. Let's see what others in the thread have to say about their experiences. In the meantime, you may find our article on managing fatigue helpful:
Breast Cancer and Fatigue:How many radiation treatments are you scheduled to have, and are you receiving radiation to the whole breast or another area? We hope you'll keep checking in and let us know how you're doing as treatment continues.

I started RT on June 25 and todays is done also, but I am feeling a tad tired. I attributed it to earlier in the week when I had some super busy days and the anxiety of starting.

Hi it's JoyInside,
I began radiation treatment on Monday, June 22, 2026 for IDC stage 1a (no lymph node involvement). My OncoType recurrence score was 10 so I was fortunate to not have chemo as part of my treatment plan and my radiation plan is 15 sessions with treatment targeted to the cancer location.
In just these few days, I've experienced fatigue (requiring napping every day), headaches, and nausea/queasiness affecting my appetite which subsides in about an hour post-treatment. No skin affects/ irritation this far as radiation nurse provided me with calendula cream and aquafor to use on the treatment area.

I am 75 years old. Had a lumpectomy for 1.7 tumor, clear margins no lymph nodes involved, genetic testing all negative. The blindside was the tumor was HER2+. I elected not to do chemo, but I am doing Herceptin which is once every three weeks. Meeting with radiologist next week to discuss time frame. I have to drive 35 minutes each way so I was hoping I would be offered one week instead of three weeks of radiation. I am a nervous wreck

I started Herceptin 1 week ago and it went well. I was waiting for the other shoe to drop, but I felt fine. I met with my oncologist just yesterday. The treatment plan is the 3 week radiation. I am very nervous about how I am going to feel but my oncologist felt I would do fine. Next week I am going for my tattoos and start the following week. I am trying to get control of my anxiety.

Checking back in
I've been blessed and favored in that my radiation treatments (12 this far) have gone pretty well this far. Besides the daily fatigue, some nausea, and minor skin discomforts, I've been fortunate and have only had limited side effects.
I was committed to following the offices guidelines and recommendations for skin care and treatment and it has worked out well for me. I did add aloe vera gel harvested from my own home grown plant once i noticed some tightness and irritation.
Wishing all of the July 2026 Radiation warriors the easiest possible treatment protocol & sending healing and positivity vibes for no or very limited side effects.Stay strong and Be Blessed

Hi joyinside,
I’m encouraged by your experience with radiation therapy. My cancer is very similar to your’s as I’m also invasive ductal carcinoma, stage 1A, ER/PR positive, HER negative and Oncotype DX score 10. I am starting my 3 week whole breast (no lymph node involvement) treatment on July 28, and am feeling nervous. Up until my mapping appointment last week, I have been feeling really good and recovered well from my lumpectomy in mid May. However, having a set date for radiation made it feel real now and I’m starting to worry about skin and fatigue side effects. I had a moderate contact dermatitis reaction to the ChloraPrep from surgery which caused pretty intense itching and redness, so I was worrying about the skin from radiation. Hopefully it’ll go smoothly and surprise myself by being much more mild than expected!
