Recovery Timelines

Hi everyone, I hope you're all having a great week so far.

I'm newly diagnosed with DCIS, and will be having a BMX with AFC in the coming weeks. The surgical team have advised that the hospital stay will be between 3-7 days (I live in Australia).

I’d love to hear everyone’s recovery timelines! I'm prepping meals and my space beforehand so I can be self-sufficient, but my biggest priority is caring for and lifting my 3.8 kg (8 lb) dog. She'll stay at a pet resort while I'm in hospital but she's my world so I definitely need her home with me as soon as possible. I'd love any real-life insights and stories about your experiences + timelines - when were you able to lift things around that weight?

Thank you so much 💕

Hi @lb1982, welcome to BC.org! We’re sorry you’re dealing with a new DCIS diagnosis, but we’re glad you found us.

Preparing meals and getting your space organised ahead of surgery is a great idea. And we completely understand about your dog. If you’d like, we have a fun Furry friends thread where members share photos of their furry companions, and you’d be very welcome to post a picture of your girl there.

Recovery can vary quite a bit after a BMX with reconstruction, so hopefully other members will share their real-life timelines.

Wishing you a smooth surgery and a gentle recovery. Please keep us posted on how you’re doing!
