Lilah, I know it was a few pages ago, but I did mean not having coffee BEFORE surgery was the hard part. Always stop at Starbucks on the way home!!
Judy, you are an amazing woman to go thru so much and stay so positive. I know being negative doesn't change anything, but, wow.

I had my nipples done 4 1/2 months ago. It took almost 4 months for them to heal.
Saw my PS today and he's ready to tattoo. It will be done in an OR and he will sedate me. Anyone else been put out to have the tattoos done? It seems like overkill to me since some of you even have your nipples done as an office procedure with a local. Anyway, my tattoo date is May 14. Then I am DONE!!!!!

Congrats, Firni! The end is in sight! btw.....I don't remember realizing how our dx's are almost identical.....and your dx was just a few days after my bday......0

Firni, I had tattoos done on Friday. It was done as an office procedure with no sedation or local. I do think having it done in an OR is overkill. The tattoo was not bad at all as I don't have much feeling. I could feel a little in certain places, but still not bad. I would not say it was painful, maybe just a little uncomfortable. I must tell you the biggest thing I have faced is some swelling in the arm where the nodes were taken. Just trying to work thru this. Good luck.....this is truly the icing on the cake!!
Hugs, Kathy

Val -- I LOVE that picture! And you look radiant (hat and all -- and btw it looks adorable)! I am truly touched, too, that you remembered us

Firni, There is absolutely no reason for you to undergo general anesthesia again for the tattoos? General anesthesia comes with its own risks, and tattooing certainly does not merit the risks. WTH is he doing??

Judy: I am so sorry you are having to go through all of this.
Val: Thanks for thinking of everyone here. You look cute in the hat!
Boy, does this thread move fast! Been reading for 1/2 hour!

Finally at the end of the thread, so much said, so much to say...
LAURA, THANK YOU for the prayers, kindnesses and humor you give to us all. I have no doubt you will get it back a hundredfold and you deserve it!!
JizoLaura, you are home by now and hopefully enjoying the new yipee squishies. Ahhh.
Judy, so much to go through, but it is wonderful to see that healthy flap tissue, isn't it? Thanks for sharing. It is interesting and reassuring to see the work of my PS on another. Heal well!
Deborah, the baboon story brought me to tears!! That's the sense of humor my husband has, too. Keep me laughing.
Wishing all a good night and healing days. deekaay

Val, I love the picture and thank you for thinking of the BC.org crowd. And I checked your new photos on TimTam's site and think that you look lovely. You should have no worries at all about going forward with nipples and tattooes. I'm very happy for you!

Judy, just signed on to ask how you are doing and there were your posts. Glad you are better. Been thinking of you!
Val, how beautiful you look and with no makeup too! And you celebrated for all of us!

Val We do have a very similar dx. The ILC was the reason I went with the BMX. I just couldn't stand the thought of that invisible cancer striking again. Yikes.
kbram I think most of the women here had maybe a local for the tattoos at the most. I don't really get it. I didn't have a problem being sedated for the nipple surgery. I woke up in the middle of it. Was PS ever surprised when I raised my head and asked if my nips were beautiful yet. Needless to say I was put out again pretty fast. I had some issues with lymphedema after my MX but I've been able to keep it under control for almost a year now. It is a concern any time you puncture the skin on the affected side but I hadn't even thought about getting the tattoos affecting the LE.
Judy I won't be under a general just a twilight sedation. I still think it's overkill. He said the tattoo machine is at the surgery center. So it will be an outpatient procedure. I asked why I would be sedated and he said he likes to run a line so he can run IV antibiotics. So fine, buy why must I be asleep? He doesn't do any procedures in his office except Botox and such. I did find a place that does permanent makeup. I don't know if she does areolas tho. I was thinking about getting my eyebrows tattooed on since they haven't come back a year after chemo. What should I ask? What do I look for? I'm pretty nervous about someone doing my eyebrows. I don't have any hair to cover them up if they turn out badly.
I think if someone could do my areolas it would be less costly than my out patient co pay and I wouldn't have to be sedated. Do you know anyone in Denver? Arggggg! Why is this last step causing me the most anxiety?0 -
Hey girls!
I went to the BS today. He told me he's going to surgically remove the lumpy area tomorrow. I'm going to a surgery center and I'll be put under, but it'll be minor compared to the BMX and exchange. Too bad I can't have them remove the lumps, put in nips, do the hyst/ooph - and heck - take the gallbladder too! LOL!
My BS said he would be surprised if I had BC. He said regardless of what the ultrasound said, he'd remove the lumps. He told me that it could be scar tissue. He also mentioned that normally a recurrence is along the mast scar line. I hope he's right. he did ease my mind a bit. I had to get my teeth cleaned after that (I checked and the BS said it was ok to see the dentist). My dentist's office couldn't believe the news. My PS's office called me to see what was going on and how I was doing.
My path report should be done by Thursday. My DH is convinced that the BS will be able to tell if it's cancer or not, when they remove the lumps. I can't wait to get this over. I really really hope for GOOD NEWS!!!

(((kittycat))) waiting for tomorrow--think scar tissue. period.
Firni, check your pm.

So nice to hear from you Judy....your courage and strong spirit shows through and lifts us all

Val you two look lovely....thanks for the photo
Kittycat, so glad you have a plan...wishing you all the best today!
Thank you everyone for your good wishes!
So I'm home and happy =D
I'm doing great! I was in surgery by 1pm and home by 4pm
I have peeked at my new girls and they are looking a little strange...I can't use tapes so I woke up with a bra full of gauze cover the stitches. I spent the late afternoon and evening with Dilaudin and a benedryl chaser
This morning I'm trying to use just tylenol. I want to get off narcotics as soon as I can bear it, they make me very itchy if I stay on them too long
So far I'm feeling some tenderness where PS did a little pocket work. He dropped each pocket down a wee bit and I think he may have done something under my left armpit where my TE used to sit.
All in all I'm fine....no drains! and the yippee squishies feel so much better that those coconuts! My arms feel as good as they did when I went in yesterday...I don't think I lost any mobility

Funny story....I think the dilaudin made me a little giddy. I was sitting on the couch last night and said to DH that I still felt like I had a bra on....not as bad as the TEs but still there. Then realizing my mistake I started giggling (something I don't do very often) realizing that I "did" have a bra on
My PS sent me home with a very comfortable bra with a simple hook closure in front. Here's the info on my implant - it's a Mentor Smooth Rnd Moderate Plus Profile Gell 600cc. Hard to believe that should be a full B on me....but whatever happens I'm going with it

So I feel very lucky this morning. So happy to have it behind me! DH is still in bed...I think the stress did him in
My coffee tastes sooooo good!I wish all those with transfers and other challenges coming up all the best!
YIPPEE SQISHY!!!!
Strength, healing and courage,
Laura

Hi Val, I also did Susan G. Komen Walk Race For the Cure last Sunday, April 25, 2010.
Except in NJ we had continued heavy rain. Myself, my girlfriend and my son still went. We walked thru mud, slush, and it was freezing, you name it. We were soaked, but we endured. We did the 1.5 K fun walk. I raised $1,208.00 and even with the inclement weather, we survived the day. Even "my new girls" were able to endure it all.
I, of course, was allowed in the "Survivor's Tent" for goodies, however, because my back up were with me and could not go in, I chose to get my goodies and leave. I did leave a note on the survivor's note table.
I am sorry I do not have any pictures, but if you go to Komen site, they are going to post all the pics they took.
Have a great day.

I see PS on Thurs. but I just wanted to know ahead.
Thank you.

Val, I just LOVE your pix! Made me smile all last night. What an honor for us EC sisters. Thank you!
Judy, so glad you've resurfaced to say you're doing well. I've been thinking of you so much and will continue to send healing thoughts your way.
Kittycat, yes, scar tissue, and you're taking care of it -- excellent!
Laura, so glad you came through so well and that Dilaudid is your friend. I'd say being spacey and happy are the goals after surgery. Way to go!
Firni, my PS only uses a gel Lidocaine for the areola tats, no injections and no oral or IV painkillers. I agree with what's been said, that it sounds like big guns for this procedure, but that may be bc I always seem to have such lingering effects after anesthesia. I'd keep asking questions.
To everyone having surgery, concerns or office visits, we're all pulling for you. The next time I go to the hospital (knock wood), I'm going to help deliver my friend's baby. She's 38 weeks today. So excited! Maggie

PS
Fairport, wanted to let you know I've been thinking of you and hope your appt goes well on Thursday (Thurs, right?). When I get really worried, I try to hand the worry over (in my mind and heart) to my medical team, because I trust them and bc it's what they do. I know it doesn't help entirely, but it does help some. Take good care, Maggie

Rebecca - Sending you yippee squishy wishes for tomorrow!

Wow, lots going on!
Laura2, so glad that everything went well. Dilaudin? Seriously, they give you that in a pill form for home? After my BMX I got to a point when I was in so much pain and so sick from the other meds that they gave me Dilaudin in my IV and the nurse told me that it was going to Rock My World, and it did! Luckily it was later in the day and it just helped me sleep through the night, but she said if I were awake that it would probably have me halucinating. Rock on that you have that to take care of your pain! That's funny about the bra thing! I am so happy that you are yippee squishy! Remember, don't judge them too early, take a clue from my book! They settle in and change daily!
Kittycat, glad that your BS is on top of it and getting rid of whatever it is, that has to be a relief, and when you find out that it wasn't BC that'll be even bigger! Prayers sent your way today!
Rebecca, tomorrow is your day, yay!!!! We'll be thinking of you!
Val, no make up, are you serious!? You look awesome! And you are so a hat girl! You were totally rockin' the hat! And the sign was awesome, so glad that you were able to do that!
To everyone else, hope everyone has a great day! Good luck with whatever is happening in your lives! I'm going to take my kids to see "How to Train Your Dragon" this afternoon, I promised that I'd take them and I'm afraid it might be leaving the theatres this weekend, so better go before it's too late!
Great day ladies!
Paula
