Morning -- it is quite crisp today.....but in a short while the temps will go up rather well.  I can't wait.  Strange and very cold winter.  We normally ( in this part of southern Illinois ) don't get such consistent cold.  So only have to hang on for the week-end when hopefully we will get better.

Hope you all will be able to find warm places and stay there.  I'll be out to feed the feral cats and a few other things.  Some things just have to get done.  As a fashion statement I've been shy, but if this is what winters are going to be like.....Cabello's will see me in those overalls the men buy for winter wear to work outside.

    See you all later.

    Hugs, Jackie

Valgal - I loved reading the perspective you have to offer on 2nd relationships.

Char - Sorry to hear about the hospital stay.  Hope you're released soon (that sounds like you're in prison, I know). :)

Jackie - I totally agree with you.  I'm not sure I'd ever marry again, if that was the situation I was facing.  I'd more likely just want an agreeable companion (who I could send home when he got on my nerves ;)).   Now the DH, I think he'd be better off remarried, if it came to that.

I have so much I wanted to accomplish this morning, but I just got a call to come in to work early today.  So much for having the morning off.  I'm scheduled pretty late today too.   I just dread going out into that cold, especially when I know it'll be cold AND dark by the time I head home.

My "frozen" shoulder is getting worse.  I really need to do something, but I'm really leery of doing physical therapy a 3rd time, especially after my neck was so screwed up after the last one.   Seriously considering trying accupuncture - can't hurt, right?  Any recommendations?

Good Morning all - it sure would be good day to stay in with a good book and warm beverage!

Char - we're looking for good news from you today (that you're home and feeling better).

Lago - how are you doing today? - hope you get through the darn side effects SOON!

Marina - How's the foot doing?  You went for a haircut recently how'd that turn out?  My hair is really driving me nuts - probably a little longer than an inch (in some places anyway!)  The curl is driving me crazy and I've tried every kind of gel imaginable and nothing seems to work to straighten it out!  But at least it's MY hair!

Wendy - I finally finished the latest S King book - I'm going back to an older one now - one day I'll get caught up!

Had mammogram last week and they found calcifications that weren't there 6 months ago. Saw the surgeon on Tuesday and she said that it could be from radiation (that was a year ago?). Then she was all set to get me a referral for a plastic surgeon to do the fat grafting to even me out and take care of a pucker that she's not happy with. When I asked if it was worth it to have that done since my cancer has already spread, I could see by the look on her face that she'd forgotten that part. She said I was right that since I could have to go back to chemo - the chance of infection, not healing....etc.. So there I had my hopes up and came back down to earth real fast.  She did send me for a chest x-ray, since I've got some swelling in my neck (on the side of the port) and there is a vein really sticking out on the other side.  X-ray showed nothing new.  She thought maybe I had a blood clot (caused by the port). Will see if everything goes okay with the port today, since (lucky me) I get to go for my zometa today and the faslodex (that I look forward to so much). Going to drop off some valentine's stuff at my sister's after that - I was busy baking cookies this weekend and I need to get them out of my house before the hubby and I eat all of them!   Hope everyone has a safe and warm day!

Wendy, I just took the diuretic this morning. Initially the drug ordered was an old name so had to wait till yesterday morning when the pharmacist was given the information. I stopped by yesterday morning only to find that they didn't have the strength. I didn't get the diuretic till late afternoon. It was recommended that I take the drug in the morning or I'd be up all night peeing. I took it a few hours ago… so far no extra visits to the bathroom although I am staying close to it today Tongue out

Nails still an issue. I have another finger that hurts a lot, swollen at the top and is pink. This is usually what happens before it springs a leak (starts draining). I'm giving it a little time before I call the dermatologist. I don't think it's infected. Thanks for asking.

Got my liver CT results. I have stable tiny lesions but they are going to do another CT in a  year just to be safe. I was told all is well. I think the CT in a year is just a precaution.

Char have you been sprung yet from the hospital? You would have to pick one of the coldest days of the year. How are you feeling.

    -----------------------------------------------------

Stay warm everyone. It's cooooold out. I'm just going to Walgreens to get a pill splicer and that's it. BTW what's the deal with having to cut a .8mm pill in half? Granted I have exato knifes but with my fingers this is a bit of a challenge. Any one have a pill splicer they recommend?

I might make some chicken vegetable soup today. Granted I should do some house cleaning!

Lago - I bought a pill splitter a few years ago at Walgreen's.  It looks like a small plastic box (blue with a clear top).  I know it was pretty cheap (didn't realize that I'd use it as much as I do.  Works great for every size pill.  Make a quick trip in this brutal cold weather.  Your soup really sounds like a great idea!

Hello Ladies - I got out of the hospital late afternoon yesterday.  Feeling OK.  Ibuprophen turned out to be the culprit.

    Hi everyone-

Marcia-Just wanted to say that I developed swelling in the port side arm after having the port in for about 7 months. First I went for an US, then an antibiotic, another US looking for blood clot, CT scan-no clot, then finally port removal.  I really don't know what actually caused the swelling but it did go away once the port was removed. The good news for me was that I was done with the worst of the chemo's using the port, and had to have my year of herceptin without it, but it was ok. (FYI I had to look all this up in my journal, because actually I can't remember anything anymore since I joined the 49+1 clubLaughing. I am amazed by you ladies that have such great memories.

Blackjack-Today I wore the beautiful angel pin from you in Carolyn's memory. May she rest in peace.

    Hi Girls,

Just wanted to let you all know that Jan and I went to the wake tonight. We got to meet Carolyn's sister and parents, and what lovely people they were. We gave the blanket to her sister from all the Illinois Ladies here. Inside were prayers and all our names on the blanket. She was so grateful that we were all part of Carolyn's life from the phones calls, the get together parties to all the wonderful cards we sent her. Carolyn had a wonderful last day with her sister and she is grateful for that. Carolyn is at peace now looking down at all of us here and smiling. She truly is an angel now.

Thank you all for being part of  Carolyn's life. Hugs to each and everyone of you. Remember to live life to the fullest  and enjoy.

    BJ

Good morning. Thanks to all who went yesterday. And thank you for giving Dy the blanket. They will cherish it forever. I'm going to try to go to the funeral, but am scheduled to work for a few hours - don't know if I can get out of it.

Brr, but it is going to start a warming trend and be 50 over the week-end.  I can make myself manage.

Bj and Jan......many, many thanks.  You two are special.  Glad you were our representatives. Just hope the family will find their peace in good time.

Today is Shelter day.  See you all late again tonight.

    Hugs, Jackie

    Good morning everyone!

Michele - Thanks for responding about the swelling issue. Had my zometa infusion yesterday and my faslodex shots (ouch) and the port worked fine.  Told the onc nurse about the x-ray and she also checked the arm for swelling - don't seem to have any swelling there, only in the neck. I've had the port in since last May and I looks like we'll be together for a long time (if it keeps doing it's job)!

JanClare, Lisa and Joan, what was the name of that doll that you could use to pound out your frustrations?  I of course forgot.  Look forward to seeing you all again.

I was so glad to be able to attend Carolyn's wake yesterday with JanClare.  Adey and Lisa were there at the same time and I guess we just missed BJ and Jan.  Carolyn's sister was so happy to meet us all and thanked us for being there for Carolyn and offering her a special connection to others going through the same experience.  We did not get a chance to see Dy's blanket, but I am sure it is beautiful and will bring Dy some comfort in the coming days.

Of course, there were many family pictures showing Carolyn at a much happier time.  And then there was her breast cancer Dammitdoll!  Who knew?  It must have been her little secret, but I did find the website where we can all purchase our own personal Dammitdoll.

Have a great day, ladies.  It really is going to warm up, but I am going to miss that bright sunshine.

    Dear all-

As a researcher, former cancer patient (ovca), and a participant at these bc discussion boards, I have become interested in learning more about patients' reactions to the  information they receive as they are diagnosed and presented with treatment plans that involve chemotherapy.

This interest has led to the development of a survey that asks about experiences with patient education materials provided at oncology centers across the nation.  This is a formal study, and the research protocol has been approved by the Institutional Review Board at Brown University, where I am on the faculty of the Division of Biology and Medicine.

The survey is anonymous and brief.  It will take you about 15 minutes to complete the survey.
To participate in this research, here is the link:

    http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/PatientEducationMaterial

Your participation will add to the body of information on this topic and is intended to contribute valuable data regarding patient education materials for oncology patients.

Thank you, and your contributions are greatly appreciated.

Girls - I sent Carolyn that damnitdoll when she initially logged on here. At the time, she got a big kick out of it.

Joan - Thanks for mentioning it. I had almost forgotten about it.

Hi ladiesI don't post often on this thread but I think you are a terrific group. I wanted to offer my condolences to Carolyn's friends and family. In January, Carolyn posted on the "How BC.org Has Made a Difference to You Thread." We sometimes don't tell our friends how we feel about them. But Carolyn did share her thoughts and I hope they will be a comfort to you. She wrote: "I've found wonderful friends through BC.org who have helped me through my darkest hours and helped me to come through.  I also had tried a support group when I was first diagnosed; however, it was all older people and I didn't feel comfortable in the group.  The people I have come to meet are so helpful and carrying.  We are like a little family.  Ready to support eachy other whenever the need arrises."

Sorry I have been a bit quiet today. I know Carolyn is at peace but it still gets me teary eyed.

Thanks to everyone who was able to make it yesterday and represent us. I'm sure Dy will cherish the memory of her sister with that blanket.

I'm not a sharer, I pretty much bury things, but yesterday was heartbreaking and heartwarming.  Thanks English.  I know Carolyn felt how much we all cared and Dy too.  On line, in person, with cards, letters, phone calls, emails and whether we were able to make the wake or funeral or not...
