Good Morning gals! Thanks Y'all for keeping this a fun thread!
Beacon, I must say, you are not helping yourself by being negative about everything we are talking about on this thread. None of us really love the idea we are taking or HAVE taken Tamoxifen. And we ALL have SE's! We just TALKED about hair loss and problems with our once lovely toe nails pages back! If you WANT to find answers to any questions you might have, go BACK on this thread & read what we talk about!
http://community.breastcancer.org/forum/78 Now here are a lot of topics about Hormonal Therapy, including Tamoxifen for you....
We just don't think it is nice for you to come on this thread & rag on us because we aren't sticking to your subject. So if you don't want to hang around with us, then this isn't the only topic on BC.org. Oh wait, here is another one for you.
http://community.breastcancer.org/forum/78?page=3
http://community.breastcancer.org/forum/78?page=5 And THIS thread was started by one of our friends that had serious side effects, and SHE still stays up-beat, & trys to move on! If you can't find anything on these threads to help you, START your own!
SURE I lost a lot of my hair too! But I just style it a different way, & even colored it! RED!!! And my toe-nails? I lost 4 of THEM! They just sort of got soft, & I took them off. But compared to the rest of my life.....Oh wait! Did I tell you I went deaf on Tamoxifen? So compared to the next 20+years of my life, who cares? I'm done with yesterday.
Do what you can! It's all about attitude..... and breakfast!
Is that SPAM I see? YUM! xoxoxooxoxo0 -
nope, sorry, looks like good old garlic sausage, (kielbasa) which is divine with fried eggs and hash browns. Yummy thanks so much

Tek!!!!!!!! Morning girl! Yes, you are right!!!!!!!!!! Oh well, Spam, Sausage, both rank right up there, ha! xoxoxoxo0

Another meat we thought was awesome as kids was fried bologna! Yup, mom would purchase it in a sizable chunk (more cost effective) and dice it, in with the eggs and scramble it all together - fantastic! (or so we thought)
so hungry now. . .

YES!!!!!!!!! Fried Bologna! My DH sprinkles a little sugar on it while frying, because you KNOW it makes it better for you!
You have to snip the edges, so it won't curl! Aren't wieners and bologna the same thing? Except we just had hot dogs the other night, & the skin was so TOUGH! I might have to try making hot dogs with bologna.....Ha, ha! 0 -
Chevyboy - OMG! Does that breakfast look wonderful. Speaking of fried bologna - I love fried bologna sandwiches with yellow mustard. I think you and I are becoming the queens of food around here.
I was able to get my appt with the pain doctor moved up from Jun 15th to this afternoon. Hope I am finally going to get some relief after 5 months of pain. Will let everyone know how it goes. Wish me luck today. I am kinda scared. My BS was talking about maybe a nerve block - yikes! that means needles getting stuck in the poor old boob.
Good Morning Tammi Babes.

Jo good luck with your appt. Yep the needle thingy scares the crap out of me. Since my med is working some I am hopeing for something topical for the breakthrough pain, but guess we will see what the old pain dr has to say about it. I am such a wimp sometimes.
WHAT FRIED BOLOGNA, that sounds horrible. But guess it is cause I don't like bologna. When I was in 7th grade got a stomach virus and had had bologna sandwich for lunch. Not good coming up and have not eaten it since.
Breakfast looks wonderful, I needed it. DH was running late this morning and did not get my oatmeal made form. yes he spoils me.
I missed alot on here last night!! I was cooking dinner. I bought a huge 1015 onion at the farmers market so I decided to make homemade onion rings last night. Made them gluten free as my DH is allergic to wheat. They were so yummy, still have 1/2 an onion because it was so big. Think I'll make hamburgers friday night and more onion rings, ya'll are all invited.
Alicia, we are on our way to pick you up and drag you outside girlfriend. We are all gonna stick together and help you get over this funk!!!!!!!!!!!!

Chevyboy you are the BOMB and I love that you posted that awesome breakfast....just what I needed so thank you !!!
Jo thinking of you and knowing you are gonna check in and let us know how it went today!!
Sherry you are such the cook huh? I wanna live next to you. My only question is do you cook and not eat anything as you are so tiny girl. Any kind of onions I love. I remember and I know you gals will think this is gross, but my Mother and her 2 sisters and I cooked up a bag on onions sauteed in butter and each had a bowl for lunch! Now that was delicious!
As for the fried bologna, YUM!!! I think we all group up with the same likes! Who started this? Paula? Way to go! Nothing like good childhood memories!
Alicianice day for a drive, get ready!!!
Tink sweet girl, how are you????
Teklya you are so sweet in everything you do!

PLEASE, someone help. I have a couple of questions. I noticed skimming through that most of you are Hers2-. Was that a factor in taking Tamoxifen? I was told by my onco that unless a women had had a hysterectomy, Tamoxifen was not given. I am 15+ yrs post menopause and have high risk osteoporosis (and duh, I am on Als!!). I am hating taking first the Arimadex (too many SE) then now on Femara. I am also starting to lose what little hair I had grown after completing Chemo & before being put on Als. It was growing until I must have gotten a "good" dosage level & now I am going the other direction.
I understand the importance of estrogen inhibitors, but right now I am angry, frustrated and hurting. My GYN is willing to do a hysterectomy, but the Onco poo-poos it as being a major surgery in order to go on Tamoxifen absolutely ridiculous. Right now nothing is too major (especially if it can be done vaginally) if it keeps me sane or from breaking something or someone. I got over the loss of my hair, never wore a scarf, hat or wig, but I am through all the Chemo and I WANT my hair back even if it is just a pixie.
Does ANYONE on this list/board understand or have any suggestions? I see my Onco next Thurs. June 2. Daughter/Nurse is going with we and possibly my husband. Onco has met them several times before & DH is also a patient of his. Life is just wonderful.

I was told that IF I was Her2Neu positive, I would be on Herceptin along with Tamoxifen. The OncoDX showed that I was negative, so I was on Tamoxifen for 7.5 months, just started on Aromasin last week. I had hair thinning even on Tamoxifen (and I had very fine hair to being with).

Gals,
I'm not sure if I saw it in here, or the 'Newbies on Tamoxifen' thread, but weren't certain of you having toe pain? I've been on this tamoxifen about 2 months now, and in the week or so have had a good amount of pain in my big toe--at first I thought maybe an ingrown nail was starting, but it's not. There's no bruise, no swelling, just pain. I'm just wondering if I'm getting another lovely SE of this wonder drug. Thoughts?

Thanks suzanneinphoenix,
This is like it happened over night on one side (so far). Even hubby noticed it and that is saying something !!!
My hair has always be thick but "going through the change" did lighten the amount somewhat. Obviously I can't grow a new boob therefore I am determined to have some hair growth so that I don't look like a boy or pull the plug. I am older anyway & never expected to live forever. There are a lot of things I would do differently with this mess..............hind site is always 20/20. BC is a bi**h.0 -
Anyone taking tamoxifen as a preventitive? I am 37 considered high risk after genetic counseling. They found precancerous stuff_ ductal epithelial hyperplasia, after the counseling with the onco, she recommended tamoxifen to reduce my risk by 50% of getting BC. Along with MRI 1X a year and mammo 1X year 6 months apart.

Hi Linda I do have toe pains and they come and go with some weeks so bad and other nothing at all! My toe pain was more like a cramp that pulled my toes downward and I literally had to grab them to pull them back. Not sure if that is more like a spasm but only on my left foot not on my right. I hear bananas really help and another woman on this thread was taking something like Lycra ( I think, I forgot the name ) but I am sure she will chime in and tell you. Good luck and let us know what works for you!0

Normajean-Tamoxifen is for premenaupasal women but some women in menaupause also take it. I would say most women that take it probably still have their uterus. I for one have had a hysterctomy uterus only. Tamoxifen does have an increase risk in uterine cancer but that is usually watched very carefully. I also have the thinning hair since being on Tamoxifen and I have thin hair to start with. I also have hip joint pain. I have had many ther Se's but they have worked themselves out. Good idea to take Daughter/nurse with you to MO.
