Hello ALL!
I just started Tamoxifen (about 5 days now). I am 36 with IDC (premenopausal). When did you start feeling the SE's?
Thanks

Welcome tunkylala - Glad you found us but hate it that you have to be here with the rest of us. This is a great group of very supportive ladies. We do get wild and crazy sometimes so just jump in at any time. I really did not have any SEs with Tamox. It has reduced my hot flashes and I did have some minor stomach issues in the beginning. I take the full 20mg at breakfast with some milk. I know others will be along to share their experiences. Best of luck to you.

Thanks Jo! Yes, I hate being here too but I am so happy to have this forum. I was looking at your profile and we had about the same diagnosis. Did you do the Oncotype DX?

Wow - I just found this thread after realizing that I'm starting Tamoxifen here very soon. I don't have my date yet but will find out on the 19th. I just got through my mastectomy and reconstruction and now have the bandwidth to start thinking about my next step in this journey. I have to say I'm a little frightened after reading some of these conversations - but I would much rather be prepared and know what to expect then be surprised. This is great to be able to learn from everyone.
And if Sherry posts a pic like that everyday...I'm in!! Whoa baby!

Wecome tunkylala and JustLaura! Im sorry we have to meet this way, but you've come to the right place! These gals here are a great bunch. I too was abit on the freaked side when I started my Tamoxifen. But the gals here were really helpful so that put me at ease. I really didnt have any bad side effects other then a small tummy ache which went away after a week. I did split the pill in half, but after awhile that became a chore. I just went ahead I took the whole pill. I never had anymore tummy aches after that. I do have an issue with bruising easy, but I was told that would go away after awhile. Good Luck! If you have any questions do ask. The girls around here are so helpful.

Welcome JustLaura - Sorry you have to be a member of the club no one wants to be in. This is a great bunch of gals with lots of good information and support. Come often and ask all the questions you need to. I will forewarn you, we can get wild and crazy every now and then.
I started Tamox on Jan 5th. The first couple of weeks I split the pill due to some tummy issues. The splitting became such a chore that I decided to take it all at once with breakfast. I found that if I had a glass of milk with the pill I did not have any tummy issues. No problems since and the hot flashes have been reduced to warm waves - no problems sleeping. I did not have a problem with the pill - just took the plunge and put it with the rest of my daily pills. I look at taking Tamox as an added insurance policy - to not have to go through this s#@T again.
Best of luck to you and visit us often.
Hugs

I just started taking tamoxifen yesterday for a trial 2 months. I have researched and did ot want to deal with the SE. I have a question - according to my oncologist most of the SE affect post menopausal women. I am 48 and have not started menopause. I think the doctor is lying. How many started tamoxifen pre menopausal and had SE?
0 -
vnorman- I started and ended tamoxifen at 48....I went off it because I had a heart attack and it can cause blood clots...but my case is abnormal for sure. It simply hastened what would have happened later I suspect, given my family history. Any heart stuff in your family?
My galpal was on tammy for 5 years in her thirties and she did not have a single side effect tha she noticed.
Remember that these threads are generally read and commented on by folks who are having side effects and want reassurance and information (not necessarily in that order) and generally, folks who do not have any problems do not go seeking this resource ....

tunkylala, Justlaura, and vnorman--glad you gals found us here. I was 48 at diag, now 49 (prementapausal). I started having SE's the first night I took tamox. I think I have probably had the most SE's of everyone. I had really bad tummy issues and really back insomnia along with some other SE's that were not as bad. The good news is after 4 months they pretty much all resolved themselves so if you are one to have SE's know that it will get better. When my MO kept telling me the SE's would resolve I really thought he was placating me, but he was right. Don't be scared not everyone gets SE's. This is a great group of ladies and we get off track but when things need to get serious we are all here for each other. Ask any questions or whine if you want. Somebody may bring some cheese.
Justlaura glad you like the photo.
Alicia I've missed you, I think you have been busy with those kids this summer, but that is a good thing.
I went for my cervical MRI and my DEXXA Scan today. pretty uneventfull and should have my results in a couple of days. I pray nothing too bad with my nerves in my neck and I guess I get to start taking Fosomax-not real excited about that. I love the fact that my MO is so on top of research but he really takes things to heart. He will not let me take Vitamin E because of studies and wants me on Fosomax because studies show it helps prevent recurrance. So guess I'll take it if it will help keep the cancer away.
Hope tink is doing ok after her surgery today.

Sherry - We always like to hear good news - fingers crossed the results are negative and you can clear your calendar of doctors appts for a while. (((HUGS)))

Welcome vnorman and JustLaura! Like everyone else said this is a great group of ladies.... and we've had the range of side effects from Tamox. But most do really resolve ....but like in my case they can come and go. My main ones are insomnia, which I now take melatonin which helps tremendously, and tummy issues. I have some warm flashes and leg cramps and joint pain but those are not too bothersome. Ive also had depession but after being diagnosed and going through all we do its notto say its that. The tummy issues are the annoying one for me. I have to report though .....that I have been off Tamox for about 3 weeks and my tummy has been feeling good ans in the last few days I've noticed a big difference in my mental state. Feel good, lighter and happier. Thedown feeling that had persisted has lifted. Feels good to feel good!

Tinks hubby told me yesterday that all went well with her surgery. I hope she is resting comfortably today.
Ok girls! I'm on the train and its mighty quiet! Where's the party? Or we saving that for the train ride home on Monday?
Praying for good results Sherry!0 -

Sherry waiting is the hardest part and I am praying everything will okay.....
Welcome Justlaura and Vnorman. My problems were mild in the beginning. I had constipation and headaches along with insomnia in the beginning, all symptons subsided after a many months and then the joint aches came and they come and go. Not as bad as many might think. Good luck and come here often as these women are the best group of women and friends anyone can have....
