Tinkertude- did they say it was positional vertigo? It did stop after I had been off tamoxifen for a few weeks. I will try take it 1'2 at night and half in the morning and see if that changes anything.
Thanks.

Mary where are you located in NY, I dont see too many new yorkers here on the boards, although I know we have a lg rate of BC, at least in the upstate area.
I hear a lot about splitting the pill in half and taking morning and eve for better tolerance. I am such a horrible pill taker, usually crash in the evening and cant remember to take pills, lucky I am getting them in in the morning.

ingoodcompany... They sent me for a CAT scan and when that came back all clear they said it was stress and possibly PTSD. Now I am seeing someone for PTSD but the dizziness was not from that I am almost positive. I will admit when I get anxious it would make it much worse, but I still believe it was from the Tam.Good luck and keep me posted!!! hugs
Maria
Good morning Tammy ladies, chilly here today lovin it though fresh clean air!.

carberry.. I understand I used to be like that too horrible at I . What has helped me is a weekly pill organizer I keep on the counter right next to the sink so when I am having breakfast I remember to take them out and at dinner I remember to take them out.. especially since I am always the one doing dishes...lol... I am always at the sink

Carberry: I'm in Westchester County. There seem to be a lot of members in NYC, otherwise we seem to be scattered all over the place. If you are inclined to forget to take the pills, then you are probably better to just take them in the morning. I take 10mg in AM, 10mg in PM along with my Vitamin D ... or that's what I'm supposed to do, but I forget at least once or twice a week. If I forget the morning one, I take two in the evening. If I forget the evening one, I just let it go. Sometimes I remember after I've gone to bed and get up and take it with a little milk.
I have a pill organizer and it's left beside the sink but still forget. Maybe I should get into the habit of leaving out a mug for tea and putting it inside that so I can't miss it. But next thing I'll do will be add a tea bag and boiling water in on top of the pillbox!

I was taking my tamox in the evening.Changing just this week to mornings or early afternoon.I was like others, Forgetting. I don't have side effects like dizziness etc.Maybe some slight thinning of hair.I have just over 3 more years take it.Dec 2014. I was dx with non invasive DCIS and 1/2 centimeter tumor I was told chemo and radiation wasn't needed but take tamox. So I don't want to miss any pills.I feel this took the place of chemo and radiation. So far working BUT after 2 years a benign tumor was found in July. Malignant one was found July 2009, removed along with a benign tumor found as I was being prepped for the lumpectomy. Then 3 weeks later(Aug) 2 days before my check margins surgery) I found a lump.It was benign. So 3 benign and 1 malignant since July of 2009.All on my left side where I've had benign tumors and cysts since I was 20 years old.Now 64.My friend who is a long term survivor says there is something else after tamox.I will take it if there is.

momofttwo11-I think effexor is about the only one you can take. but you can check out drugs.com and put in specific names of drugs and see if they are OK. I have never taken effexor but have a friend who said it work wonders for her.

momoftwo - I take Celexa (have been for a few years) and doc so no problems to keep on taking it with Tamox. Talk to your doc and find something so you don't have to suffer!

momoftwo - You can also take amitriptyline. It is a tricyclic antipressant that is not addictive but has a sedative effect. I am on it for pain management (50mg) but you can go as high as 150mg. It looks like you have three good recommendations - talk to your doctor about which one would be best for you - he/she may even come up with another one.

Just sent off my prescription for tamoxifen this a.m. After Friday meeting with MO. Specifically asked about anti-depressants as I had taken Paxil a number of years ago. He also indicated effexor as the anti-depressant to start with if I needed it. Just started scanning this site as am concerned with all the SE's. Older sister had serious issues for 6 months when she started on it. She is now at 3 years in and not seeing them. Thanks for all the insight here, I will know where to look when I need it. Cheers!

hi, i've been taking tammi for one year now,and doing not too bad on it..I've been following this forum for lots of good advice.
lots of hot flashes of course, and my feet have been really stiff and sore for the last few months, . ..really bad when i first get out of bed, or have been sitting for a while, but once i start moving around they're not too bad.. . not sure what to make of that... SE from Tamox ? At any rate, saw my onc last week and she did the blood test to see if i was in menopause as i haven't had a period in a year and a half, since starting chemo.. and it seems i am officially in menopause ( yipee.. don't miss my period at all! ) So, now she is switching me from Tamox to Arimidex... i'm a little nervous about that, just seemed to be settling in to the tamox.. oh, well.. we'll see how it goes... we'lls ee what these se's are like, hopefully the joint pain is not too bad. I suppose i can always ask to switch back if it dosn't work out.... off for a bone density test next week. 0 -
Thank you all for your help I will talk to the doctor when I go in on Thursday

Mary- stopping the stress test for fatigue is normal (I say...can you write down my legs don't go that fast..is that the same damn thing?..apparently yes!)...My ex was told pain in his chest was anxiety. Can you track when you had the pains? did hey give you nitroglycerin to take ? y gp said if you have tightness in the chest and take the nitro and it goes away...then that is angina..( helpful ? not so much). not having arythmias or anything abnormal is GOOD

Hi all! I am taking the Effexer for the hot flashes and it does work well. I did start on a low dose and that didnt do to much so the Onc bumped it up and once she did it really helped. I still have hot flashes but not as many or as intense. It is also safe to take with the Tamo.
Have a fun filled night all and love and light to you all!

Oh Sandeeonherown, I'm sorry, part of my sentence dropped out. I meant to say "When suffering the aches..." I just picked up my Tamoxifen, have not started it yet. Just read this thread and look at the bottle a lot! I asked my MO to begin, but after hearing from some of the ladies here I decided to wait until done with rads.

SAB..Yes exercising does help !!

Sandee: Now I'm beginning to think the chest pain is just from stress. Until I read your message I didn't think about it all day and now find that it's pretty much gone. I did a walk of 3.75 miles today (practicing for the upcoming "Taking Strides" five-mile walk) and didn't notice the pain. I would think if it was heart-related, the walking would make it worse.
Chili: my feet are really stiff and sore too, esp in the morning. I never thought to blame the Tamoxifen.

My feet and ankles are stiff and bone sore. The soles of my feet are numb--my Dr calls it peripheral neuropathy and says that is what is causing my balance problems. Just touching a wall or counter as I walk or using a cane to just touch the floor with helps a lot.

having the joint pain/aches, going to the gym 3 x week, makes me feel better has not made the joint pains any worse

My hot flashes continue to get worse. I do not sweat and this morning when my alarm went off I was in a deep sleep (took a sleep aide last night) and I was wet with sweat. Cannot remember the last time I actually broke out in a real sweat. yuk.

Sherryc - How long have you been taking tamox?

Hey ladies checking in to see how everyone is doing........rainy yuck day here in Mass, but it is only for 1 day.....
Tink, I went to OBGYN last Monday and I guess no news is good news as I am still waiting on test results. So the way I look at it, is that I must be fine.....I do however have to have Lithotripsy treatments for my Kidney stones to break them up and it will be 4 treatments and it is outpatient and they only do it once a month as I guess the body can only get beat up a little at a time....ha ha. Literally this machine pulsates your kidney to break up the stones and it is like getting beat up as I woke up once while they were doing it and I almost jumped off the table.
Jo hows that pink pretty hair of yours doing???

Hi all ! I have missed you. I tried to do a quick catch up.
Jo and Sherry love the pictures, hope you girls had a nice visit.
June ~ hope you are feeling better.
All is going fine here. Still have my cast on but am nearing week 8 and then it comes off! 9 more days woo HOO. I will then go into some boot thing and hope to slowly weight bear on that leg.
I haven't been to the computer much as I can't keep my leg down for too long it swells up so badly and then hurts. I will be glad when this is all over.
Been having problems in the female parts area, just painful during sex and itching. So sick of tamoxifen but I still swallow it each day.
Hugs to all and Welcome to the newbies !!! You are with a fine bunch of ladies here ~

mamav I have been on tamox since the beg of Feb. At first the hot flashes were really bad and then they went away for quiet awhile, that was great. Then they came back for 1 1/2 weeks not so bad. then went away again--very good. Then they came back about 2 1/2 weeks ago and continue to get worse. I don't know if it is tamox or menapause as the tamox as put me into menaupause. I was no where near going through when I started this and now my bloodwork has me almost finished. I am also trying to gain weight for reconstruction so my eating is not as healthy and I am not exercising as much and that may contribute to it as well. Just wish they would go away.

June - Miss you on here - still have the pink hair and wiill until the end of the month. I am told I am one of the few people that can pull it off.
Alicia - Glad to hear the cast is coming off soon. Miss seeing you on here too.

Mary- good that the exercise ie helping..aparently an anxiety attack/stress can feel the same as a heart attack or problems..so you have done all the right things..you checked it out...now live...if it was heart related, you would not have air to walk as much as you did...according to heart and stroke ( and my experience anyhow) it feels like the air is being sucked out of you with a straw...I put it down to post-radiation fatigue, if there is such a thing...don't think there is...I was FINE through rads physically....just be aware and live:)
SAB- everyone is different. I deicded to start tammi while doin grads because i figured if there was an issue, I was already i n the hospital, you know?do what feels right

June... glad no news is good news for you. Hopefully you will not wake up this time during your kidney procedure. I have only had kidney stones twice I cant imagine going through it all the times you have had too... hugs girlfriend! I just made my GYN appt for the beginning of Nov. My doc apparently is no longer with the practice so I will be seeing a new doc and I will be much more assertive in asking for some type of baseline since starting Tam.
Jo I have no doubt you could pull it off my friend! xoxo
Hi Sandee Sherry Alicia and all my tammy friends and welcome all newbies!!!!
