Jules I love your posts......you always make me LOL.....screw her as Jo would say and toss her into the bonfire with my so called pal who by the way texted me last week to apologize and I told her too much was said and I am not sure I could move forward......I am not one to lose friends, but with people like yours and mine....screw them I say!!!! I am much better off with all of you who completely understand even though each one of us has completely different diagnosis.....you gals are the best!
Sandee so sad that people get so caught up in their lives and tend to put themselves last.....I hope nothing bad comes of it.
Oh and Paula.......love you girl. He was by far some nice eye candy!!

HI Jo.....I love seeing you back here as I miss it when you are not here.....you are one spunky lady!!!

Just popping in briefly tonight... quick read through the posts.... seems all is stable for today and I hope tomorrow is the same!
Thanks for the eye candy! I am heading for the bar car, want something a little stronger than wine - maybe a good single malt scotch.
Hugs and hopes for sleep for all of you.

bcis no fun--I was just reading (again) about Tamoxifen and found this info about green tea:
Chemotherapy -- The combination of green tea and chemotherapy medications, specifically doxorubicin and tamoxifen, increased the effectiveness of these medications in laboratory tests. However, these results have not yet been demonstrated in studies on people. On the other hand, there have been reports of both green and black tea extracts stimulating a gene in prostate cancer cells that may cause them to be less sensitive to chemotherapy drugs. Given this potential interaction, people should not drink black and green tea (as well as extracts of these teas) while receiving chemotherapy for prostate cancer in particular.

Oh woops--that article was online by the University of Maryland Medical Center. Sorry.

Sherry - I know that Tammi is hard on the liver - I had to convince my GP. He is not familiar with this medication. I am not worried about the elevation as it is slight and I can live with it. My MO is not overly concerned about it either - says we will just keep an eye on it.
June & Tink - Miss you lovely ladies. I also try and catch you two on FB. It is going to be crazy the next couple of months but I will try and post whenever I can.
Heading to bed - tiring week already.

I hope someone is still in the bar car, headed there now. I'm with you Linda on the single malt!

thanks SAB - A dear pharmacist friend looked up info for me. She found both a journal article and a response to this exact question from a Dana Farber nutritionist. Both said there was a benefit to green tea together with tamoxifen. All recommend it in moderation - no more than 2-3 cups a day and preferably choose those without caffeine. Isn't it frustrating that one says don't do it and another says yes, it's good for you!

Daummmmmnnnn.........some friends suck!! I hate that!! Sounds like we all have had a few of them "SO called friends".......I have one who has been mine for over twenty five years....yep,...surgeries have lead her astray....... I do get a note on fb from her once in awhile, but not many. and no more visits, no calls like we use to.......it sucks, but I say.....oh well, go on and live and love the ones you HAVE that ARE TRUE FRIENDS!!!! Like y'all.......

Jules, there are things been happening and things still going on. My colonoscopy was fine... then they found four nodes in my lungs.....had to do surgery to remove them. One had hydraplasia, the others were b-9 NOW they have found nodes under my arm, so back to the breast specialist on the 21st .........as someone said.....cancer......the gift that keeps on giving......

Well this evening my youngest son, dil and grandbaby will be here for our Christmas exchange. She is a cardiac nurse and has to work over the whole Christmas week so we have to do ours early. WIll be a nice change. And Saturday is my oldest son's birthday so we will celebrate it too!

Hugs to y'all if I don't see ya tonight or tomorrow morning........have a great day!!!!!!

Good Morning All -
Newbie to the Tamoxi group - I'll be starting sometime in January. It looks like chemo is not in my immediate future, so having to schedue around that is no longer a concern.
I'm 50 y/o, have been peri-menopausal for about the past 2 years - and would probably be in menopause in the next couple of years or so. Is Tamoxifen still prescribed for somebody like me for 5 years? Or is Tamoxifen given for a few years, and then switched to something else?
Thanks all - grateful for this group! I knew I was in a good place when I saw the Christmas gift pic at the top!

Add me to the list of people who have been "friend dumped" b/c of BC. Sorry I'm too much work for you - WHATEVER!
On another note, I had an AWESOME visit with my BS yesterday. She was 90 minutes behind schedule but was worth the wait. Said my boobies look great! All cancer is gone. MRI and mammo look good and I healed beautifully. She skimmed quickly over the liver part and I had to make her go back ... she said it is not a concern at all. She said it's 99.9999% a B9 cyst and everyone has them. She said I can do an MRI next week if I want, but she wouldn't bother. Feeling SOOOOOOOO much better, but still having the MRI on Tuesday to make sure!
Have a great day!
Vicky

Vicky glad your BS appt went well. At the beginning of this year my husband was having some back issue and had a CT and a spot on his liver showed. They sent him for an MRI and it ended up being a B9 cyst. I pray that is what yours will be.
Joy welcome to the tammi train. regarding your questions all MO's are different. Some will switch you as soon as they are comfortable and some will have you do 5 years tammi and then 5 years AI. I would ask my MO what is protocol is.

Hello beautiful ladies! Hope your day started out good. Just popping in to say hello and wish everyone a good day. I am 15 days on Tammie and so far i guess so good:-) apart from the DAMN Hot Flashes!!!! I've had them since chemo and my MO said that they will linger on for quiet a bit uurrghhh Its 30 degrees and the nights are crazy cold but i sleep with the fan on!! my poor hubby LOL...i had zoladex (like lupron) shots while on chemo so am told that those gives hot flasehes as well...
My follow up with my MO is Feb 2012 and BS in April 2012, after that I am taking my kids (i have 2 ages 4.5 and 3.5) on vacation to europe & africa yaaayyy!! leaving hubby behind LOL...

Hi Everyone,
Felt welcomed by all you ladies. Thanks suangel127, Linda, MammaV June2268 and everyone else that I missed. It is hard to keep up. Hope to add positively to this group as well as join in on all the parties. You ladies seem to have a lot of fun and I figure I cannot let cancer steal my joy. Had a bone density yesterday and waiting for results. bcisnofun: Are you kidding me? I have been trying to eat and drink healthy and added at least 2 cups of green tea to my diet. Don't know what's good for you these days.
Jo1955: Great news on your lowered cholesterol. As you said, it must be the tammo that spiked it the last time you checked so what are you doing differently?
Paula: I am with you. It is so confusing. One minute something is good for you then bad. I cannot keep up so I try to be moderate in everything.
This is my 7th week of Tamoxifen and the achiness in hips, knees and feet, especially after sitting down is not letting up.
Swansiagirl and everyone who gets insensitive comments: People just do not know what to say. Some are due to plain ignorance about breast cancer. Others are uncomfortable with the subject and others see you looking and doing well and feel they do not need to add anything positive because you seem to be doing so well. If they are unhappy, they cannot contribute anything positive. That is just my take. I should write a book. . Sometimes I want to say "Do you have any idea?"
Have a blessed day warriors. I see a few of my July chemo sisters have joined the board, Just want to give you all a shout out.
Hugs,
Anne
Anyone gets paronoid when it comes to any pain in any part of their body? I try not to get freaked out but cannot help it. Coupled with the hot flashes at work, its enough to drive me to drink.

I was catching up with all the posts on the threads that I follow this morning while my youngest DD was getting ready for school. She said "Mom, you do not need to be looking at that man on the computer. Dad will be mad."

Anne it took me while for the pain to let up. It was about mid Nov when it did. I had been on it around 5 months. It does get better. Between the chemo pain and the Tammo pain I walked like an 80 yr old instead of a 45 yr old. Im glad that its starting to let up for me. It wil to for you, hang in there girl!
Ok this is gonna sound weird but hey thats just the way I roll, lol I am looking into prenatal vitamins, no I am not prego. I had that issue clipped years ago, and you have to be exposed to it as well, I know TMI, right. My nails are so brittle anymore, and I hear they make them stronger. Has anyone checked into them or not. With the Tammo I just want to be safe.
ach thats a good one!

Jo so glad the cholesteral is down.
snoopy welcome aboard.
Paula I would think the prenatal would be OK but you could ask your MO
As for the achiness and joint pain. I had it at first as well. It has finally gotten better. My joints are still a bit stiff but the achiness is gone. Hang it there it will get better.

Paula I love the way you roll.....he he. I started taking the biotin for my hair and nails and didn't really notice any difference and my nails are so brittle and soft it is almost impossible to keep them somewhat shapely. Let me know what you come up with.....
Talk about achiness I am 46 and feel at least 20 years older and it has been a year and 8 months on tammi for me. My husband kids me all the time as I am almost 4 years older than him. He says I started complaining well before tammi.....LIAR!! I hate to admit I am getting old!!
Hugs ladies!

Allenan - I do take a cholesterol lowering medication -Pravastatin but we also added fish oil - 2 capsules in the am and 2 in the pm. I buy it at Walmart in a twin pack. DH has to take it as well so better off buying it that way.
Paula - Check out Biotin - it is good for the hair, skin and nails. I take 5000mcgs. Had issues with my hair falling out and my nails breaking. I have always had super strong nails and was freaked out when they started breaking so easily. I have been taking it for about 4 months and my hair is thicker and the nails are better. The Tammo does cause this problem.

JUne I love that you are a COUGAR woman. hehe

welcome Joy...you sound like me last year when starting it...and yes, ist isprescribed for 5 years...some oncologists say start on tami and hten switch to an AI once you have been tested and are oppofically post-menopausal.
Yay Vicky...Yay Paula!!! Hello June!!!Jo...when does your assistant manager return? Sounds like you need a wee well deserved break.
Re. hair and nails- I bought some Biotin conditioner and my hair is GGGGREAT!!!...now my nails...brittle again and my skin dry but ...think I need a wee bit more water
I already ranted on Bonfire of the Goddesses....but....left for school at 8am and had already had a text from a teacher (and dear friend) who was laid off via EMAIL!. Seriously???? the man was just at the school handing out cards and Christmas bonus checks yesterday.....then to email her one day and ask her for her key back and email the next morning to say "sorry but you are laid off. please see the accountant for your papers".....see the new Director of Studies in January to get back ont he sub list....REALLY>>>!>!>!!! Because she did not toe the new party line...everyone was walking around with bated breath ....waiting for email to arrive in their mailbox. I NEVER check my email in the morning now that I am on the teaching floor...but there I was....having to check my email for notes and things I was apparently supposed to talk to my students about 5 minutes later....I used to love the school I worked at...and loved my job. I have only felt this way a couple of times at this school in 19 years....but I really hate it at the moment.....not a good feeling.

Yes I started the Biotin a few montgs ago and have noticed a difference. Not thinning as much as it was.
Anne.. oh yes every ache an pain has a new meaning. When I get any I take a deep breath and think ok If I feel like this in a few days then I will start to worry and call the doc. I have to talk myself out of worrying about it and move on, but it is sooo hard sometimes. I agree with June I feel so much older than I am, I just turned 43 and there are days where i feel soo much olderthan that simce this has all started.
achpurple.. thats too funny what your DD said.. cute!
To all my WONDERFUL tammy girls!!!.. hugs!!!!
