I sympathize dragonfly. I have to get my drivers license picture taken in the next two weeks. I still have very little hair despite finishing chemo at the end of July. But at least I won't have to show the picture often. I am sure you are your worst critic though. I bet you look beautiful. Hope your hairdresser will make you feel more comfortable though.

dragonfly...I am amazed when I leave the salon, as I did last week, how my hair looks so much better after I go to my stylist... Maybe you should go get your hair "done" for the picture. I get mine highlighted, trimmed and blown out and it looks almost normal... Then I try to do it at home, and not so successful... I also don't have the patience.

Kay, I also had to renew my drivers license when i was doing chemo and had no hair. I discovered in Washington State I could renew it online and use my old picture. Maybe you could check into it in your state also. Just a thought

I thought I'd just pop in here - I'm at the very beginning of this whole process. Day 16 since my first tx (AC-Taxotere). The hair is making a valiant last stand, but I assume there will be a lot on my pillow tomorrow morning, and I guess I'll be wearing the wig for New Years. I've appreciated reading everyone's experiences and look forward to when I can write "It's coming back!"

rachelvk - don't know if this is good or bad - my hair hung on through 2 chemos until the 24 day mark, so you might ring in the new year with hair on your head!

Thanks. I've lost a number of individual strands today - just can't seem to stop 'checking' every 20 minutes... I'd like to see it hang on. I have very thick hair, so if it doesn't start coming out in clumps, I might squeak by.

Mine didn't fall out until day 21. I was on dose dense AC. Before then, it was just some strands. Woke up that morning, ran my hands through my hair and you could barely see the palm of my hand...major fall out.
Shaved it and never looked back.0 -
Kay I just had my license renewed on Tuesday for the first time in 8 years. My hair isn't all shiny (or a long bob) like it used to be but it is a really nice photo. I'm telling you it's not about the hair it's about the face. Be sure to fill in those eyebrows if they have thinned. Really makes a difference.
In IL if you have a perfect driving record they only make you take a picture every 8 years instead of 4.
Rachelvk the day before my hair started falling out I called the wig place to tell them it wasn't and maybe I should change my appointment (for the next day). They said keep. Sure enough day 16 it started big time. It took a while for it all to fall out so you will probably be fine for the 1st although I will admit I always had a lot of hair. I never buzzed although now I have it buzzed short. I was on taxotere, carboplatin and herceptin.

Rachel, you're just a bit ahead of me, and we're both posting on the Dec T/C thread. I'm Day 10 and just got my hair cut short yesterday, in anticipation of it falling out. I guess I have maybe a week left before then, maybe more???0

Oh No!! I'm due to get my pic taken for my license now too and I never even thought about it before. My hair is just too short to do anything at all, just a buzz right now. Oh well, hopefully we'll move back to PA in a year or two and I'll have to get it re-done again.

dragonfly - I would just crap if my stupid short hair was up for the world to see! Thank goodness your hair looks great and you have a pretty face - but still I understand how you feel!
Your DL comments remind me of all the weird looks I have been getting when I have been shopping and they ask for ID with my credit card. I miss my long hair
rachelvk and wavewhisper - good luck with this very difficult part of the BC journey. I don't think I've heard of anyone who has woken up with all of their hair on their pillow (although that's what we all feared would happen). It's a gradual process and comes out in strands. If you have thick hair, you might just make it for New Year's Eve!

We've been in NH for six months and I really should go get my licensed changed from MO to NH but I've been procrastinating, waiting for my hair to resemble a style. Hopefully I won't get stopped in the next few months...my MO license is good for at least two more years.

Glad to see I am not the only one so preoccupied with the driver's license picture. I will look into renewing on line, but I don't think PA lets you do that. I renewed the license on line, but they sent the photo card in the mail. And the DMV is only a mile from my house, so I don't think they would let me do that, but it's an idea worth looking into. Thanks for the tips Lago, my eyebrows are still thin. My DD has been experimenting with drawing them on for me, but she made me look like Hitler! Little pointy black eyebrows, didn't go with my pale skin. I'll make sure to do it myself on picture day. I think I'll wear my wig for the picture. My hair still isn't an inch long, and so f^*^*&$g thin!

Kay, I have to laugh at the pointy black eyebrows. My brows have always been very light so I've have always either powdered or penciled them in. There have been days I've gotten to work and shocked myself when looking in the bathroom mirror, apparently if I'm tired while applying my moring makeup I give my self some scary big brows. Now, I work with all guys and not once have any of them said a word but I'm sure they've all noticed!!

Just got home from my mom's funeral. She never saw my short hair or even knew I had breast cancer. She was in pain for a long time so we are glad she is at peace now.
SO for the first time in like forever i was with my brother and sister for a few days. One woman wanted to know if my borther and I were married EWWWWW!! plus he is 10 years older than me. Then I was in a public restroom with my sister who is 12 years older than me and a young girl asked if we were twins!!! yikes!!!
So i am def looking older with the short hair and letting the grey stay. I am looking forward to growing it long and making it blonde again.

At a Christmas party this year, that my youngest son had for his clients, a lady asked him if I was his WIFE!
He's 29 years younger...Ha!

I thought of painting eyebrows, but since I have never done it, I am a little afraid to muck it up. I have also never plucked or waxed my eyebrows, so I don't actually know what they are supposed to look like.

Carrol, sorry to hear about the loss of your mom. I am glad you and your siblings are at peace and know she is in a better place and not suffering any longer. My thoughts and prayers go out to you.

Update on my dilemma at work. One of my wonderful colleagues found this photo that was used in our department newsletter last year and emailed it to me this morning so that I could ask administration to use it instead of taking a current photo with my transitional hair that I hate right now. I will be much happier seeing this photo when I walk into the hospital every day. It's bad enough I have to look at this hair in the mirror every morning-I sure don't need a poster in the lobby too!!!
Me before the BC nightmare began:
I'm 7 months PFC and I have about 1.5 inches on top and 2 inches in the back. It's dark (my normal color which I don't mind), curly, fuzzy and completely unruly. I'm really trying to like this new hair but I just don't. I really want my straight hair back. I keep hoping that added length will make it easier to deal with but I'm not sure...I have a hair appt on Tuesday and I'll post some pics after that...

Carrol2, I'm so sorry to hear about your mother.
I know what you mean about getting those age related comments. I am 49 and recently when I was at the bank to enquire about my account, the staff person asked me if it was a 55 years and over account. Then, I was at a function and someone asked if I was retired. I was wearing my wig on both occasions.
I have always looked youthful, don't have wrinkles and lately have been having skin treatments at a beauty salon. So I don't understand these comments. I think maybe the blonde in my wig was too harsh against my pale skin.
Dragonfly, we are very similar in our pre and post chemo hair. BTW, you look very young.0 -
Carrol2, I'm so sorry to hear about your mother also. It's been almost four years since my mom passed and i miss her every day. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Well, it's been a truly weird week. Here's another story that will make you laugh. So, I'm at work again today and I walked through the hospital lobby on my way to a meeting. What's up with this lobby anyway-I think I better start avoiding it altogether. Well, it turns out Joan Jett is visiting our VA today to spread holiday cheer to the veterans and staff. Wow! How exciting, right? And, as I walk by, one of the handlers stops me and a female staff member/veteran and says why don't we take your photo with Joan? Greaaaat! I obviously have mixed feelings about this and now I have a photo with Joan Jett and my much hated hair:) I'm sure it will end up on our VA website next:( So, here's my updated hair photo-sticking out on the side and too thick on top where I tried to flatten the curls-Am I in the twilight zone?
I couldn't download a bigger image-I'm at work and can't access the appropriate programs but trust me, it's a bad hair day. Go ahead, laugh with me. This week is getting funnier by the minute!0 -

Carroll so sorry to hear of your mom, hope she is in beautiful pain-free place. My mom had open heart surgery 3 weeks ago and it made us see the realization that they may not be around much longer.

Dragonfly....... you look wonderful!!!!! I know we are always harder on ourselves and see ourselves differently then others. Can't wait for my hair to be that long!!!! Have to go to a wedding New Years Eve day and hate the thoughts of having to wear my wig...... so uncomfortable hot and itchy
Having troubles trying to find something to wear that will go with my foob bra!!!! Most of the nice little black dresses have halter or lower backs ughhhhhhh. So can't wait for this all to be a distant memory 0 -

carrol - sorry about your mom - I know exactly about being at peace with knowing that she is no longer in pain or ill - it is a kind of relief, but it is still sad.
kennylynne - I had to go to a military dinner when I had lost my left TE but still had the right. I ended up wearing a 3/4 sleeve black jersey dress with a bunch of criss-cross draping and a neck that came all the way up. It was dressy without being low-cut and it is a classic dress that I can wear forever. I wore sparkly jewelry and some killer shoes to dress it up. I am thinking about it for New Year's Eve, but have not tried it on to see if I look like a sausage or not. I wore it between BMX and chemo and I am a tad heavier now post-chemo unfortunately.
