Hair Hair Hair - Another question

Mccrimmon, at the risk of sounding intolerant, I have to say I would dump grandad, at least for the time being. I have a father-in-law who acts exactly the same way. I used to have him over for dinner once a week and he would hurt my feelings while he ate the meal I prepared for him! Age is no excuse for being mean and stupid.

becca, eyebrows and lashes falling out again? How long after last chemo, just so I can prepare myself.

I am 5 months post-chemo. From what I have read, this is common as you hair grows in cycles (?).
All I know is that it ticked me off but I know they will come back in pretty quickly. So far no hair loss so I thank God for that.

this is a silly suggestion but it worked for me.. an older Italian lady lived across from me and she told me to put dark tea in my hair every morning.. well it kind stained the scalp a bit and definitely made my hair look better as it was growing in. it was kind of gray at first. just lipton's - 3 bags to a cup.

Momine- here is an explanation form another post
Eyelashes naturally fall out and replace themselves every 2 months or so...since they all grew back about the same time..they are gonna fall about the same time. After a while they will go back to their old ways but for a time this may happen.

Thanks, good to know.

Hmm, apple, that doesn't sound so silly really. Do you just sort of rinse the hair with the tea?

Momine my lashes are still falling out. I had a thin spot on my left lash a few weeks ago but it filled in again. Still not quite as thick as before. I'm brow challenged too. For some of us it can take 2 years for the growing schedule to straighten out. I think I'm one of those but I can't complain. No one else notices but me.0

Has anyone tried latisse or revitalash, and does it work?

Apple: You just reminded me of a great aunt who broke a hip & went to a nursing home. I went there to see her after she was there a few weeks & was directed to her room. I couldn't find her. I kept looking in other rooms but the nurse saw me going back & forth & said "It's this room here", meaning one I had already looked in. I walked in and knew she was wrong as this lady had grey hair. My aunt always had light auburn hair and she was in her late 80's. Well, of course it was her & the reason for the change of haircolor was she used tea for years on her hair and no one knew it. It always looked great. Then we realized her sister did the same. Our family has laughed at that over the years. But, hey, it works!!

My brows and lashes are definitely still cycling strangely a year out. I am trying to look at the positive side, although it is a pain to draw them in, Lago is right, I am the only one who really notices. I do think I look much, much better with my strong brows, so I do draw them in. And by drawing them in, they are more shapely than they use to be. That's nice!

Lots to catch up ... Ladym thank you for your picture ... Such encouragement! I'm 6 months PFC this week and feel like the growth is so slow!!!!
Love all the makeup tips ... My lashes and brows just cycled again too ... All back full and long ... Took about a month (never lost them all thankfully!)
My new years resolution for 2012 ... Grow more hair! Lol0 -
Cupcakes... I did not use Latisse, but I did use Bryan Joseph Lash and Brow gel. I never lost my lashes, but did lose most of my brows... The good news is that once they came back, I never had a round two like some refer to.. so I'd like to think that it worked... I did start using it right as I started chemo and used it until 2 months post chemo... Went through 3 tubes at $50 per tube... so not cheap but worth it to me... It is all natural.. Latisse can change the color of your eyes... I am blue eyed, so didn't want to risk it.. The Brian Joseph products are made for chemo patients... you can order it online at www.brianjosephs.com.

Cath, I don't think you were harsh, sadly I think it's about time I dump grandad for a while. Not for long but I need a break. One thing this darn BC is teaching me is I need to take care of myself first, something I never really did. Spent my life taking care of my mom, then when she passed, taking care of my elderly grandparents fell directly to me.
I lost my eyebrows and lashes right after my last chemo, they grew back quickly and look really nice now. I'm 3.5 months PFC and waiting for them to fall out again.

cupcakies I do believe that although latisse works once you stop it goes back to what you would have had. I honestly believe all will go back eventually but it takes time. Takes more time with some of us than others. If you use eyeliner no one will ever know your lashes are thin. I've always worn liner so not a big change for me. I also think I look better than before treatment because my eyebrows are a bit fuller due to me filling them in.

mccrimmon-you look beautiful and should not have to put up with that. I have said it before but I really like everyone's hair when it starts growing and filling in, it looks fresh and youthful! Of course I don't like it on myself, as I think we all have that self critical problem! I am pretty lucky, my hubby actually likes my hair short and last time my hair grew in from chemo he thought I should keep it short, but I grew it back out. I don't remember getting any mean comments last time, although I do remember it was my coworkers that encouraged me to go topless last time, they had convinced me it was time! They were so sweet.....

BTW just found this: Anastasia 5-Element Brow Kit
It includes stencils for those who are "paint/draw" challenged

Here's an update at 7 months PFC. I know how much the pics have helped me so maybe this will help someone else. I've only had it trimmed once (about 2 months ago) and I'm getting it cut tomorrow to try to shape it because it's beginning to get very "puffy" due to the thickness, body and curls. Big round hair is not the look I'm going for:) I'm using a lot of gel, paste, wax, etc just to flatten it a bit. I thought it may be more helpful to post before I get it cut so you can see the actual length and curl at 7 months. The front and sides have definitely been the slowest to grow and the back is almost twice as long.

Great shots, thanks for posting them. Thickness, body, curls are music to my ears. I had that at one time but tamoxifen took it all away. I lost at least 50% of my hair and have some growing back in but it has a very long way to go before I would be able to say I see body and curls. I don't know if this is true for others but my curls start once the hair gets about 2 or 3 inches long and as much as others don't like curls, I need them to add width to my long skinny face. Your hair looks incredibly thick and wonderful.

Thank you for posting, Dragonfly!

dragonfly you have alot of hair, very thick!
I noticed mine is getting more thick and more curly, some of the curls in the back I cannot do anything with they just stick straight out.
I have a feeling the growing out stage is going to be a hard to deal with stage.
Looks great!

Sorry you're joining the club Lumpynme. I think it's a great idea to take a pic now. Do you definitely have to do chemo? If so, it's doable and you'll get through it. My BS told me my hair would come back gray. I'm 48. It used to be light, not blonde, but light. It seems to be coming back much darker. There is a little more gray, but not a lot. It's hard to predict how it will come back if you do lose it.

Dragonfly-Wow...looks great!

lumpynme... my hair is naturally wavy and blond... it came back CURLY and not as blond, and with more gray. I have had it highlighted and the color is blending fine... less gray than when it first came in... thank GOD.... but this curl is crazy. My stylist says my hair has always been this curly, but I didn't know it cause its so short... but I tend to disagree... it is for sure curlier.

Hello! I am new to this thread and I have read many posts but this thread is so long (that is a good thing), I could not get to everything. I am losing my hair in clumps as we speak, last time was in 2006. I do not like losing my hair but I HATE the thought of losing my brows and eyelashes again. Any new products out there to help fake the look of the brows? I saw the Anastasia products but will this work on no brows too?
Thanks for your help ladies. I am already looking forward to the chemoperm 'do' I never thought I would say that again!
Thanks for your help.
