June - I have missed you folks too!!!

Jo - congrats on your one year tammi-versary! WOW!!

    slinky- congrats on your cencerversary...

Jules59- sometimes the side effects aren't as strong the second time you take them. I hav eopted off them for awhile as I was an emotional mess...too many other things were happening at the time, as I can now see with some distance.

I have continued to go for onthy lymph massages, chiropractor and my naturopath. I have been taking a valerian mix she gave me with my zopliclone and am now sleeping through the night...a true miracle! My liver pulse is much stronger and I have energy again! The massag etherapist today asked me when I finished radiation...I said 13 months ago and she told me I was right on target (also told me the pain I have had in my chest on the radiated side is because one of my ribs was out of position...ok..that would do it..I thought it was muscular but couldnt understand why my breath was being affected...makes sense now!)...she said it takes time..that we need to be patient with healing process...

I am now taking care of me...juicing every day (carrot, celery or and kale, dandelion leaves and an apple and a cup of water...then sieve it so i don;t get the pulp....yum!!! going to use the pulp thi sweekend for a soup!...drinking skads of green tea...eliminated milk products this week and gluten (except last night) last week. Back to the gym tomorrow...a facial is next!

Linda- hope the foggieness is clearing...in the meantime, a wee note book in your pocekt and lots of sticky notes helped me last summer.

    hugs to all

    Sandee

HI my tamoxibabes !  I have missed you all so much.

To those of you who have gotten good news YIPPEE those with some not so good news HUGS, those waiting...  Hang tough.

I have been very anxious lately and find I cannot come here like I used too.  I of course have all my upcoming tests the first few days of February -  a chest cat scan to look at the nodule I have in my lung.  It hasn't changed as of so far so hopefully it stays the same again.  grrr... and all of my blood work and onc is the following day !  I will be glad when that is all over.

I am doing physical therapy everyday for my broken leg.  I am coming along but still not right, can't run not sure if I ever will be able too.  I gained 12 lbs being layed up for 3 months with the cast.   I can't seem to get them off.  I think of you all everyday and follow some of you on FBook.

Big hugs to all of you from me.

    Alicia

Paula, You find the best "eye candy".  Too bad I missed it last night.  I turned into a party pooper and went to bed early. That is what I get for not staying up later.

Girls I missed so much whacking and eye candy last nite huh?  Looks like Odie and Paula held the floor last nite.....now who was the winner, hmmm.....

Sandee nice to see you we have missed you on here.  Have you been losing weight with all that juicing?  I really wish a juicer wasn't that much money as I have always wanted to try it.  Not sure though however if I could stick to it.

Alicia I do follow you on FB and there is no way you have gained 12lbs looking that amazing in the gown you are wearing for your FB picture.  I too have gained 12-14lbs as my podiatrist says there is no way someone can put on weight due to no exercise.  I haven't really had a good walking month in at least 4 months and yes I due equate that to non exercise as that was what I lived for.

Well all I can say is Paula you rock girlfriend as I love the eye candy you come up with......

    Love to you all.

I have gained about 6 pounds in the past year.  I'm only 4'11", so on me, those pounds SHOW Frown  Before Tamox, if I put on a few pounds, I'd just increase my excercise and decrease my eating and I'd lose the weight.  But now, despite the fact that I have increased the excercise and decreased the eating considerably, the damned scale won't budge.  It's almost like my metabolisim has shut down.  I've had my thyroid checked and that is fine.  MO said that this is a side effect of Tamox.  So great, in addition to all the other stupid side effects I have to deal with, I have to be FAT while dealing with them....GRRRRRRRRRR!!!Yell

I agree with everyone struggling with the weight.  When I first started on Tamox I was hungry but now I eat right and exercise a lot and still can't lose the weight.  It also seems to have settled around the middle much more than in the past.  It is very frustrating.

I asked my MO about black cohosh and he said it is safe for ER positive women although he says he has not seen much success in reducing hot flashes. Works for some but not most.

Sandee sounds like your health regimee is very good. I have not started juicing but have been reading up on it and may try to start juicing some. I did buy a water distiller and love it. I am drinking so much more water now.

Alicia we miss you. I know how I hate to gain weight, hope you are able to get it off

Deb what a drag that Tamox has messed with your metabolism. I am only 5'3" so I know what you mean about the pounds showing.

Went to my two Dr appt yesterday and they were both really good. I don't have to go back to the pain doctor unless I need him. Even though I am having this severe neck pain he feels that my PCP is doing all the right things. He said if it does not get better with those things then to call him. Yah got to dump another Dr. My MO visit was good, all my bloodwork was really good and I had several questions for him regarding new studies that I have read about. I think he really likes that I read up on stuff and gives him the chance to talk about new scientific stuff. Anyway he had put me on Fosomax a while back but a new study is out there for pre menopausal ER+ women that Zometa helps to reduce recurrence rate. He said the problem is most insurance won't cover it unless you are doing chemo. But he said that reclast is very similar and there are studies to support that is helps to lower recurrence rates so he is going to see if my insurance will approve it and if so I'll get an infusion every three months when I go to see him. I told him I want all the help I can get since I did not do chemo and I was in a very gray area on my onco score. I should know something next week. After my last biopsy he is very supportive of my BMX that I am planning on having. He said that I have very unpredictable breast and he thinks it is a good idea. I think he was also happy that I switched BS as I always got the impression that he and my old BS are not on each others favorites list. Was also very glad to hear that my new BS wants an MRI on Monday since my guide wire fell out at my last surgery. He was also supportive of me taking a Tamox holiday and doing the steroid pac again to try to get my neck pain under control. Said that if that and acupucture did not help to call him because he wants to get to the bottom of why I am in pain. Said I have been in too much pain with my breast and since that has resolve with PT does not want me feeling bad with my neck. After that meet some friends for yoga and then went to dinner with DH and friends and celebrated my two good Dr visits.

I think Tammy is a sadistic B......  When I started Tamoxifen I needed to gain 10 t0 15 lbs. so when I read it could cause weight gain I thought here is an SE I can welcome.  I also read that in some women it can cause weight loss and prayed I would not be one of those.  Well, you know what happened.  Fourteen months later, down 15 lbs.  Yell

June, Alicia, Deb..weight gain. ARGH!!! I thought I had gained because of the arimidex and lack of energy which equalled no gym time but I stepped on the scale and it is exactly the the same as October ....the juicing may be helping..and green tea...but other than today's bacon at a girl's brunch, I have stopped eating red meat, gluten and am going as organic as I can afford. Joined a local organic food group that delivers to your door...as long as they don't bring me beets, I will try it.

June- I have not bought a juicer...I am using my blender and then a jelly bag to collect the pulp! it is working beautifully...just made a juice that included one carrot, 3 celery stalks, half a cucumber, a green apple, some kale and water...if I was really ambitious, I would use the pulp and make soup but right now this is all I plan on doing. Juice in the am while the coffee is perking...then yog and fruit and some organic grains...veg and fish for lunch ...and I have decided to lay off the cereal at night...sure that has put 5 pounds on me!

Deb, I am also 4'11" (well, close enough) and know how frustrating those five pounds can be...my aim was to at least maintain my weight while on these medications...add the soon to be big 50 and newly kicked in menopause and you have a slow metabolism for sure!

Anyhow, -9 today so I did indoor things and hit the gym...not hard but enough to get me remotivated:) hugs to all...guess I missed the pillow fight!

I am going tomorrow for my breast MRI.  This is a new breast surgeon so I don't know if he will call me with results or make me wait until I see him on the 25th, although I don't expect anything to be there since my last surgery was in November.  This is just a follow up to make sure they got everything.  If everything looks good then I'll get the green light to move forward with my BMX.

Sherry, hoping for a good MRI result.

Paula, glad you finally got some relief!  Did  you ditch the tamox?

I just discontinued my Effexor that I had been given for neuropathy, and despite the miserable side effects, I think it was helping the hot flashes.  My last dose was Friday, and last night I know I had multiple soaking episodes, not what I had been experiencing lately. I swear if I continue to have SEs from the drugs, I will die either from the drugs or the cancer.... not sure which is worse! I felt pretty good with the cancer, have just felt bad ever since I got involved with the breast cancer docs. What I wouldn't give for a day in which I had no pain, and was able to do a 10-mile hike with pack or play the piano for an hour or so.

Jo, I hope those little lumps are nothing, but the MRI should help figure it out if that is what he suggests. I will be thinkiing of you.

I wish I could have the nads to ditch the Tammo.  I have noticed that the pain comes and goes.  I need to start keeping a journal and see how it is.  I do know it drags on for days with each day getting worse until my whole body is just one huge pain.  Once it gets to that point I am useless until it goes away.  Im just up in arms about.  I have days where I wonder if its all worth it.  Then I have my days where I fight fight fight.

I guess I'm a perfect candidate for Tamox....postmenopausal, no uterus or ovaries, so the MO was excited to offer it to me!  He mentioned all the benefits, such as protection for bones, a little protection for colestrol elevation and so on.  He mentioned blood clots as a downside, but felt I wouldn't have a problem as I took birth control and HRT for 40 years!

Funny, he never mentioned the weight gain, thinning hair, joint pain, etc.  I guess you find those out for yourself as you go along.  I asked about taking a smaller dose because I'm a smaller person...but no...one size fits all.  Trust me, if I take this sutff and get SE's I will cut the damn pill in half, in fact, I might start out that way to begin with and increase the dose if I tolerate it.  Anyone else doing this?

I have no desire to diminish my QOL any more than it already has been diminished.  Since Sept when I was dx I feel like I've been caught in a revolving door to a dr. app't!

Kaara, you are so right. That revolving door sucks. I take the full dose, but I split the pill and take half in the morning and half at bedtime, it has helped me somewhat with the hot flashes and night sweats. I bought a pill splitter on Amazon.com for about five dollars. Best of luck to you.
