Hair Hair Hair - Another question

shore - that white/grey stuff may not hold color very well. As hard as this may sound, you might want to cut it off when you get a little more length. It is damaged by chemo so it is not healthy hair.
My brows have come in lighter than normal but I find that they look good with Anastasia colored brow gel a shade darker than my natural hair color. It is like mascara for brows but the formulation is not as thick as mascara.

Nice hair Heather!! Loooks really good. Iam 10 weeks PFC and am wondering when on average did everyone start to go topless, kids and hubby say I can now but am soo scared and am having huge anxiety issues about it.... am going away this weekend and not really wanting to wear the uncomfortable wig but am so scared of the stares too I still look like a cancer patient. Any thoughts?

A question for all you experienced ladies: Is there some kind of shampoo or rinse that will add a little color to hair? I looked at the colors, but it is too complicated for me.

kennylynne - you just have to rock it like a supermodel with the attitude - wear bigger earrings and darker lipstick, and if anyone stares make it their problem, not yours! Just like you probably felt a sense of relief when you finally lost all the hair after waiting for it to fall out, you will feel a sense of relief that you can go out without your wig (or hat, scarf, whatever) and it is all ok! Just be bold and do it!

Kennylynne, I started going topless at 13 weeks PFC, I was so nervous to come to work. I even took a xanax before I left. It was the week between Christmas and New Years and we are generally very slow. Can you believe I was the only one to show up that day! I wasted a xanax for nothing. I was surprised at all the nice comments I got from people, I could tell the ones that didn't like it, they were kind enough to keep their opinions to themselves. Strangely, no one asked if it was because of Chemo, everyone really thought I choose to shave my head.
The only person who I was offended by was my 90 year old grandfather who told me he didn't like it and laughed at me all thru new years day lunch.
Momine, They do make those shampoos, I can't recall any brand names, other than either Paul Mitchell or Redkin, both can be purchased from a salon, but I would be very carefull using any of them. They are all pigment, I used to use the red on my red hair but it turned my highlights pink. I was very happy with the L'oreal Temp color LuvRVing suggested.

Mccrim, thanks, I may look for those. Knowing me, I will never actually get up the nerve to try real hair dye.

Thnaks ladies....... I know we are all in the same boat here. When I think about my hair and look in the mirror I get so sad and anxious. It feels so silly becuase its just hair but I just can't seem to feel good about it. Bravo to you Heather I know that must have been so hard for you. Special Kay I think before BC I really did have some attitude and self confidence now I just can't find it any more Trying to get my BITCH back!!!

kennylynne - you need to channel that old pre-BC you! I still stress about my hair because I look like a 10 year old boy with a GIANT chest (fully filled expanders) so it is confusing to people seeing me! BC def does stuff to both body and mind, but I encourage you to just do it!

Momine,
I'm an ex-hairstylist. Those weeks while my hair was growing in before the temp color was the first time in maybe 25 years I didn't have any sort of dye on my hair. When it was growing in grey I really thought that was my natural color and I was really upset about it.
Kennylynne,
I like to wear jewelery and spend a little more time on my makeup than I did, I think that helps me. I actually forgot earrings today and I feel "off"

I am 17 weeks PFC and I've colored my hair 4 times with the L'Oreal stuff - very easy to use, especially on very short hair. You don't have to worry about getting just the roots because really, your hair is mostly just the roots...lol. I am finding that the color gets better every time I do it (every 4 weeks). And I let it process for 20 minutes, not the 10 that is suggested. You can just assume that your hair is resistant to taking color, so the longer processing time works better.
Someone gave me a tip that if I don't want my color to end up too red, avoid the color codes that end in "R" as that is the code for colors that will pull more red. Some end in "G" for gold or "A" for ash.

Thanks ladies..... so nice that we have each other for support

I went topless at 12 weeks PFC. I was really nervous too, but got a new dress that looked like an artist would wear, big silver earrings, bold bracelet and played up my eye makeup. I rocked that look as best I could. I held my head up high and walked with confidence. I had so many positive comments, and I never put the wig on again after that evening. I had colored my hair a light natural brown with Loreal Excellence cream color. It looked better than the black and white hair that had grown in. The white hair looked like I had gotten highlights when I put the hair color on.
Just go topless when you are ready. The truth is that we worry about our looks way more than others do.0 -
Specialk, do you mean shave off the white hair? I wonder if it would grow back more normal looking if I did that.

I trimmed off the white junk... did it before I ditched the scarves... used clippers on the #2 setting and just took off the tips. I also thought it might stimulate growth. No regrets about doing it even though it might have delayed when I went topless by a smidge. I still went out at 12 weeks and never looked back! I totally agree that it's all about how you rock the look - go with confidence and you can't go wrong!

shore - yes, I went to my hairdresser and she scissored it off for me. Plus mine was a bunch of different lengths and it actually looked like I had more hair when the white stuff was gone. Before that I looked like a walking dust bunny.

just reading you ladies, and being your cheerleader... thanks lago (**) about the hyothyroid. im coming up allergic to my OWN thyroid hiormone; so very sick when i take the synthyroid, and others. on a peds dose; it helps a little with the snarkiness (oh my) and fatigue; but i don't think my hair will ever be its old self... am now looking into, and have gotten the little wiglets to hide the balding-thinning on the crown.. we;ll see.. they have to go to the hairdresser, then i'll post again.. for now, im living vicarisly thru youladies..
how do you feel about the nrw info on minoxydil? which one did you use.. i haven't COMPLETELY given up...hahahaha.3jays

Mccrim, that is funny. I have never dyed my hair. I spritzed some sun-in on it once, that is about it. I had dark-blonde hair with natural high-lights. It was pretty nice, if I do say so myself. I am not really looking forward to it coming in grey.

Going to get my first trim today! I am so scared and excited about this. I just hate the thought of getting rid of any hair that I have.

Oh Yay!!! First trim.........Good for you!!!! It will be good and I bet nice to get a style.

Ks-Good luck today. I have my hair appt scheduled on 3/3/12 @ 10:00. I hope the top grows alot until then.
Momine, it's 4 months PFC for me today and I honestly don't think my new growth is grey anymore so it didn't last long but definitely freaked me out in the beginning. My boss actually thought the grey with white tips looked cool. He's not the type to say something just to make me feel better.

I finished chemo in early Feb of last year and started going topless at Easter...so about 12 weeks I guess. It's funny now, because I really thought I had a "style" that looked quite chic - but when I look back at pictures, I still looked almost completely bald LOL! It makes me laugh now - but I can't tell you how great I felt....going topless and feeling really good about myself.
I just went and got my hair all cut off super short again - I am not liking the new texture, so be gone with it!

I went back to work topless after the Christmas/New Year holiday, which was about 9 weeks PFC. I was terrified, but I figured it was a new year, so why not! It helped a lot that my husband told me that he liked me better without the wig. I actually thought it may have been a bit early, but was tired of wearing the wigs. I sometimes have insecurities, but mostly don't care anymore what people think. It is who I am for now. I have almost always had long hair, but have to admit I am enjoying not having to worry about styling my hair these days!
