Heather-I hope I look like you at 4 months!!

Monime-Aveda makes nice color shampoos, a nice soft brown is called Clove, it is pretty neutral and should not  turn your hair an odd color. It is a bit messy in the shower though, rinse everything it touches immediatley. I am a hair colorist and work with Aveda products. It smells really good too.

I have always had dark hair, mine is pretty grey right now. I have always said if I go grey I will color it blonde and I am thinking about it. I think it would blend in with my white scalp better than going darker! Not sure if I have the skin tone to carry it off, I am very pale and blonde wigs that I try on kinda wash me out. But, this would be the time to experiment with my color! Can always color it dark if it doesn't look good! I have been a colorist for over 20 years and can tell what will look good on other people, but when it comes to me my mind goes blank.

My hairy chin looked like my goat in my avatar picture before I ripped it out! Same color, not so long:)

BAK - I used to be a hairdresser a long time ago, completely forgot about Aveda products and I love them, used the shampoos all the time but I'm a red head so would always use the colors coordinated for that.  I've never used their color though.  I have an appt for a cut/color the first weekend of March, very excited.

I used Garnier temp color this morning.  I'm definitely a red head again.  Just hoping after I do my makeup and punk up my hair a bit it's not so dramatic.  With your pale skin I bet an auburn would look great on you.

I have those lovely chin hairs as well, I pluck & wax, hate to admit there was anything pleasant about Chemo, but I sure did enjoy the short showers and no shaving.

Bak94 and Mccrimmon324 - Since you both are color stylists, I have a question.  I have colored my hair a neutral light brown for about 15 years (have male pattern baldness, use Minoxidil and it helps) because it makes my hair appear thicker.  I did lose lots when I started tamoxifen but it is now returning SLOWLY.  Everyone tells me it is the perfect color for my skin tone, however it is not as shiny as it used to be.  I have tried a plethora of products and they all seem too heavy (my hair is somewhat curly and at this point somewhat thin).  Do you have any suggestions for me, I would so appreciate it.

Good question Barbara. I am no where near colouring, but I have no idea what to do. I have medium skin (coolish?), and grey/greenish eyes. My original hair colour was light auburn. Apparently, according to my stylist, I should have dark or ashy blonde hair. I have no idea. I'm just over 50 now, aren't we suppose to go with warmer hair?

gentianviolet, Is the Minoxidil an over the counter drug? I am also losing my hair due to Femara, and would love something that would make my hair seem thicker. I see yours is beginning to get thicker oh how I would love that. I always had such thick hair till chemo and now Femara.

kira1234 - Minoxidil has worked for me for years and it is over the counter.  I was about 50 when the male pattern baldness first reared its ugly head.  Within 12 weeks of using it my hair began to regrow and remained quite a bit thicker until, years later, I thought I could stop it.  Within 6 to 8 weeks I began to shed like crazy.  So I began using it again and within a month I stopped shedding and again it began to thicken.  Fast forward to my use of tamoxifen..........I began to shed so much that it looked like a furry animal in my shower drain, not to mention how I hated to look at my comb, and I was still using the minoxidil.  Total depression because I could not figure out what to do but I was too afraid to stop the tamoxifen.  What did happen was that within three months I saw all kinds of new hairs growing again.  So now I still have some long hair and lots of shorter hairs because it is all coming back in slowly.....but, hey, it's hair and my scalp no longer shows through.  My hair dresser verified  new hair is on the sides and back but it is growing in faster than the top.  I buy men's 2% minoxidil (generic- 2 pak) for about 12.00 and it works the same as Rogaine.  It doesn't work for everyone but it does work for a large number of women.  Good luck and let us know your results if you decide to try it.  PM me if you have further questions.

cdairth-  I went lighter than my younger original dark brown hair and people are surprised when I tell them I am totally white.  Now if my hair were as thick as it was premenopause I would have just keep it white.  But because of losing so much hair once I went through menopause I tried coloring it to see if it would look thicker........it did and so I have colored it ever since.  I do go to my hair dresser twice a year to have her streak it in lighter browns and after a summer in the sun I go and have her reverse streak it a darker brown to tone down how much lighter the sun has made it.  I am not sure it is suggested that, as we get older, to go with warmer colored hair or just lighter than our original color.  Surely someone out there can answer this?

I'm 9 months PFC and my hair actually has a style now. Just wondering . . . I had super long hair before BC, but I find myself really liking my pixie cut. Anyone else made the decision to stay short?

I was 1 year PFC last week. I've kept mine short but now I do have longer bangs… I have my hair dresser buzz the sides and back short. Didn't buzz my hair till after it started growing in and I needed it styled. I did it backwards

I am almost a year out from last chemo--granted my hair took a while to come back---I have had it cut a few times but am not enjoying the style or this "inbetween" stage. Either I have to find a really good hairdresser or I am thinking also of cutting into a pixie cut as I actually enjoyed that hair post-chemo. My hair is super soft--like baby hair--now. Pre-chemo--I had great hair--thick and in such good condition. Blah...I am guessing the Tamoxifen and my rad hyst didn't help my hair condition either. I think I will get it cut back into a pixie cut also.

I am 7 months PFC and I just colored again today...the good news is that I had a 1/2 inch of "roots"...meaning that it is growing fast again!!!!  Unfortunately the roots were MUCH GREYER than before it fell out.  :(  I am at the in-between-length stage as well...UUUGGGHHH!!!!    I bought some "Beyond the Zone...wax it up...texture and definition pomade" at Sally's and it works wonders!  It helps tame the wild fly aways and gives some definition...eliminating that ever dreaded "chia pet" look the blow dryer will give short hair.  I will deal with the irritating in-between to get some length back.  I do not want to stay short.  I don't like the short style at all on me.  Some ladies look great with the short do...but I don't.

I've been a lurker on this thread for a couple of weeks.  I'm status post DD AC x four, Monday will be my seventh of 12 of Taxol, and then I still have herceptin until next Dec.  My hair is just barely, barely growing......still lots of bald spots, can't be sure even what color it's going to be - It's looking dark in some spots but then I have a couple longer hairs that are definitely blonde.  Although, now because of the Taxol, my eyebrows and lashes are thinning and will probably be completely gone soon.   I'm so interested in seeing everyone's pixie cuts if anyone wants to post one.  I'm hoping it won't be too long before I'm there....starting to get really frustrated with everything lately!  You guys are all giving me hope!

When I had my original cancer killing chemo back in 2004 I lost all my dark brunette hair with red and gold lights plus white streak that appeared not long after my beloved Keith died from cancer-to a dark steel grey colour with curls galore; the curls grew out and the hair went straight and the steel grey stayed, since my diagnosis of palliative/terminal cancer in 2011 and the ensuing palliative chemo and a majority of hair loss my hair has been getting fairer and curlier by the chemo session when it grows back. My beloved step daughter coloured my hair as part of a pamper x-mas present and I am an amazing sort of strawberry blonde ans it looks great.

I found one thing that speeded my hair regrowth was either the Nivea body lotion or the massaging affect  for it grew back fast furious and thick, I have used other lotions since that are just as affective and when not doing the chemo thing otherwise the Taxol makes it dry and strawy and scalp ever so itchty thanks to the regrowth etc-I never new about hair hurting until I went on cancer killing taxol and boy the pain makes you crazy! It is funny how your other hair stays the same colour. One joy that came out of breast cancer both sides is never having to de hair your armpits again, though it is very important to look after the skin as chemo dries it out terribly. Hair grows back at different speeds dependant on the individual who has the cancer and medications, diets and stuff and sometimes not even that!, Ladies our hair no matter what its length is our crowning glory and keeps our skulls warm/ frames our faces and helps us look good/ and if you haven;t got the joy of regrowth being a different length or colour when you want must be pretty cool too! Be well ladies may our locks grow well and keep laughing.

Is it safe to takeas Biotin for hair immediately after chemo ends or is there some wait time before its good to take this and other vitamins / supplements?

I've been taking biotin for years. Took it all through chemo. My onc doesn't like you to change too much so she knows what the SE are from so I continued taking it. The only thing I did stop during chemo was the minoxidil… would have been just wasting my money to continue on chemo.

shore - my hairdresser told me to start the biotin a month after chemo ended.  Her reasoning was that it would be counteracted by residual chemo effects so to start it after the normal time between chemo (which was 3 weeks) which I did.

Thanks Lago, so with #12 taxol Wednesday, biotin shouldn't interfere with any chemo. I can't believe how im second guessing everything I eat, drink & put on my skin. Im going to start using nioxin this week too.
