    Hi Ladies

Had pages to catch up on. I met with PS last week. Going to place the TE back was removed in July due to a infection. Also, first mamo next week. I have a question about hair How long
did most of you wait to get it trimmed? It's now about 1/2 - 3/4 inches long and looks sloppy The color is also a little scary We are going on a vacation to Mexico next week ( much anticipated) and I have a 11 year old to take snorkeling and we all know that wigs float. This could be bad. Funny but bad. Paula we should take the guys you posted as it would liven things up a bit

Theresa - Have a wonderful time in Mexico!  I say trim away!  It feels so good and does wonders for the inside too.  Regarding the color I just wanted to warn you (and others) that if you use henna like I did because it's supposed to be the safest way to treat hair, you will have to wait until the new color completely grows out before any attempt is made to lighten, highlight or dye hair in the future with non-henna processes.  I actually like my henna color and it's alot more affordable than the salon was.  Again, bon voyage!

Theresa, have a wonderful time! My MO told me it was OK to color my hair as soon as I wanted to - no comments about restrictions.

Odie, I haven't got time off yet... just getting papers filed.  Not sure how exactly we will manage it - I am teaching a course that no one else is prepared for (microbiology), and hope maybe I can just drop the other course (coordinate 4 sections of junior seminar, teach in 2 of the sections). Very difficult to "cut back"  without feeling like I am letting folks down.

Tink, will be there tomorrow for you.  Hope you get some answers.

June, I worried about you and the allergic reaction.  How are you today?

Paula, that is some of the best (the guys).... very much to my taste.... hope the others don't mind if I share for just a bit.  About the other "eye candy," I gave my DH a couple of white chocolate truffles at Valentine's day, and he took a pen, drew pupil, iris, blood vessels on it, popped it into his mouth partway, and walked around his office for a few minutes before he ate it in front of his colleagues & staff.  Might have been funnier if you were there, but he is usually such a quiet well-mannered man, this was just so out-of-character and looked really gross.

Am seeing my MO tomorrow to discuss options as I have just about had it with tamoxifen.  Don't know if I said on here, but I now have a cataract that I did not have when I started 6 months ago.  Still having so much pain, fatigue, drenching sweats.  Mood is still a problem.  Neuropathy flared up big time - that is NOT due to tammi, but from taxotere.  MO told me that IF I got the neuropathy from taxotere it "could be managed" but this has not proven to be the case.  I really don't trust anyone on my team, don't trust any of the meds. I don't really have any faith that the tamoxifen is working for me, only giving me a poorer quality of life.

Jo, how long have you been off the cigarettes?  What did you end up doing for a reward?  I actually got an iPad when DH did, haven't learned to use it well, got myself a cheap basic Nook and love reading on it.  Was just thinking of you as I pulled it out today, and it occurred to me that I didn't remember hearing about what you finally did for a reward!

Sherri, Shari, bgirl, all you others - have a good evening.  Will check in on you all tomorrow.

I haven't been on this site in a very long time and today I wanted to spend some time reading about Tamoxifen, but my eyes are not liking to look for too long at the computer screen so I can't get through many posts.  I took Tamoxifen twice a day for 13 months and my SE were getting worse all the time.  The lack of sleep and the night sweats were coming more frequently and lasting longer.  It is very frustrating to go to bed tired and not be able to sleep when I slept like a baby before BC.  My oncologist had told me at my initial visit that I was 95% cured by having the bilateral mastectomy and that Tamoxifen was an additional safeguard that was recommended for 5 years if I could tolerate it.  I don't know if I am just taking a break from it right now or stopping it forever, but boy it has been 8 days since I took that pill and I feel so much better and sleeping better.  Maybe I can start to lose some excess belly fat now.  I went to an endocrinologist today and he did say my 7 pound weight gain this past year could be from Tamoxifen.  I know I'm supposed to be taking this medication, but I just can't tolerate it right now and I need a break.  Has anyone taken breaks from it and then returned to it?

FloridaGirl, I took tamoxifen for a couple months (Jan-Feb) 2012, could not tolerate it. Had recurrence in July, so went for more surgery and back on tamoxifen - since I had only taken it for a short bit and my tumor was ER+, the MO decided tamoxifen would be best for me (she still considers me premenopausal), did  not consider it a failed treatment.  SEs were less severe when I started again.  Others here have taken short breaks and gone back to it for a variety of reasons.  Be sure to talk to your MO before you make any changes in your meds!

Linda -My reward to quitting smoking is a 7 day cruise in Sept.  We live in deep south Texas and will  be driving to Tampa, Fl.  We have 4 stops - Cozumel, Belize, Honduras and the Cayman Islands.  We have been to the first and last one many times, Belize once and Honduras will be a first.  March 15th will be 8 months smoke free. I never thought I would be this far along.  Come on - my DH still smokes and both my co-workers smoke.  It is hard at times but I have one of those e-cigs - mostly water vapor - not harmful at all.  I also have a basic Nook and just love it.  I don't need anything more than that.

Linda you've got to be kidding me about the cataract.....damn if its not one thing it's another.  Keep us posted as to what happens next.  I am fine during the day it's the nightime that is the scariest.  Thank you for asking and I will keep you ladies posted.  I do in my heart believe it's from the meds he had me on but my mind wonders to other things like the big C........even though I am sure its not.

Off to a burger joint in town with the kiddos as I have no desire to cook.

    hugs to you all

Congrats Jo -- I quit about 5 years ago ... and I cannot even believe now that I ever smoked -- I am not one of those reformed smokers that complains but the smell does drive me crazy.  Enjoy your cruise - I would love to get to Belize someday.

Joanne I used to smoke prior to kids 12 years back and I think I am the worst reformed smoker......You know they say we are the worst kind.....

Jo you do deserve a cruise every year for being smoke free.

June - You - an ex-smoker??  Who would have thought.  Learn something new everyday - don't we?

My DH still smokes in the house and it does not bother me.  What does bother me is his truck - yuck.  There are times we have to use his truck instead of my little car which by the way is a smoke free zone and has been since July 2011.

Aww...that is is cute!  I feel just like that little puppy today!

Sherry - I can't wait to see how you feel off this little white pill.  Let us know if you notice any difference!

Tink - guess you're having you CT scan now.  Praying for good results so you can get over this thing already!  It's these little things that just wear you down physically...

Linda - hope you get some answers at your MO today.  There is another pill called Toremifene and another one that starts with an "R" that might have fewer SEs.

I saw my BS yesterday and he's changing me to once per year mammos!  Yay!  I really, really hate mammograms!  He said that with young (to him, lol) women like me, they are finding that the best thing to do is NOT do routine bone scans, CT scans, mammograms, etc. because we have a lifetime to deal with those and to hold them for when you have symptoms that call for them.  I just hope my MO agrees with this because I know she probably has a CT scan on the schedule for me in May (2 years out) just as a matter of routine.

Paula - thank you for your community service by providing us suffering women-folk with the inspirational pictures of hunky men!

I really hate the fact that I can't sleep without benefit of Ambien since starting Tamox.  Sometimes I don't even sleep well with the Ambien.  That just can't be really good for you.  The other SE have calmed down some although I definitely have more gas as someone mentioned and have to take a stool softener.  Of the joys of Tamox.  Only 2 1/2 more years.

Peg I go back and forth on Melatonan and Lunesta.  I take way more Lunesta than I would like because like you I don't see that being good for me but neither is sleep deprivation.  And the gas I hate.  I have never been gassy like this in my life.  The hot flashes come and go but here lately have been alot worse, but I have found that acupuncture works for that. I spend more on the acupucture for the hotflashes than I do for my tamoxifen.  Something is very wrong with that picture.

Well all I hear ya on the sleep aids.  Drives me crazy to think that I have to use them.  Somedays I wonder if since I take the Tammi in the am bright and early do I really need the sleepaids anymore.  Parts of me are worried that I am getting hooked on them so I am to the point of flushing them down the toilet.  I have already fought off one addiction and don't need another one in the midst of it all!

Lynn its a sacriface I am so willing to do for my Tammi sistas!!!!!  Heck I can't think of a better job then to look for hot hot guys to share with you gals!!!!

Oh if we Tammo girls could figure out a way to harness all this gas we have, who would need oil from others, lol.  Hee Hee reminds me of a song we use to sing as kids.  Its goes like this

    Gene Gene made a machine

    Joe Joe made it go

Art Art cut a fart and blew it all apart, lol!!  I know Im a dork but we would just laugh until our sides hurt whenever we sang that song.  Heck we still do and and we are grown-ups, lol, I love my bros and sissies!

Oh my Sherry what gets me is I have no control over them.  Sometimes I could just be walking along without a care in the world and all of a sudden I pass gas.  Sometimes its multiple times in a row. It drives me mad sometimes.

The other night I was suddenly awakened and couldn't imagine what had roused me.  Then I rolled over and the smell escaped from under the covers.  I don't think a fart ever woke me up before.

Greetings to you all on this TGIF!

My MO also agrees that no scans are a good choice if no symptoms arise.  She is willing to do them if I want, but I don't think I want to go through them if it isn't going to help - mine seem to be negative even when disease is present, so don't trust them much anyway.

Sherry, I will be joining you on the tamoxifen holiday.  MO is not real happy with me about the tamoxifen, but I am taking a break - maybe temporary, maybe permanent - but she is checking to see if I am postmenopausal yet.  Offered to refer me for surgery to yank out the ovaries - not doing another surgery.  She understands, talked about another drug that is only available to stage IV, it reduces estrogen receptors on the tumor cells, thus starves them, but doesn't appear to have the same SEs that tamoxifen does.  She is going to check to see if there are any clinical trials for stage III  - she thinks it should be available for stage III but wouldn't probably be approved for me right now.  I think it is falsodex or something like that.  Will do a little more research on it.  Otherwise, she will see me in 4 months.

Had accupuncture today, #3 treatment, and I think it may have been helpful.  First 2 didn't seem to be significant, but today I fell into the deepest relaxation I have had in probably 2 years!  The doc said that is a good sign, and that is when growth hormone (specifically nerve growth hormone) is secreted, so may be helpful in resolving the neuropathy.  It does get expensive.

Paula, my mom has the "put-put" syndrome, but hers is due to her statin &/or diabetic meds - not sure which, they can all cause "flatus."

Tink, hope your appt. was helpful.

OK, have a great weekend - will catch up with you all later!
