I agree totally...  but BOTH....  I am taking Curcumin now and will probably take grape seed extract AFTER I finish Tamoxifen....   But they are COMPLEMENTARY,....

Harley, I would encourage you to support your friend, regardless of her choice.  It is hers.  I personally continue to resent some well-meaning people who love me, yet who persuaded me to go through chemo that has left me with neuropathy that will likely affect me longer than my lifespan.  There were alternatives, but I was "encouraged" to go the most aggressive route, and now that I am 2 years out, have continued misery during every waking hour, I truly resent them.  I cannot forget about the cancer because I have to live with the SEs from the chemo every day.  No one else can feel what it is like in my body.  So please support her, even though you may personally wish she would accept more aggressive treatment.  I know, supposedly most women get through chemo and put it behind them.  If it weren't for the neuropathy and nerve pain from surgery, I could easily put it all behind me. Maybe those reminders are important for me right now.

I was listening to an interview with Kevin Kling who was born with only one arm, was in a motorcycle accident, lost use of his one arm, had/has post-traumatic stress because of it, and was talking about anger. He is an actor and playwright, has a new book out.  Gave me some very thoughtful moments as I work through the changes my life is requiring.  Thought some of you might be interested.

Today is sunny, warm, and although I am not able to do my own weed-pulling, my next-door neighbor, a tall, lanky teenager, has come to weed my gardens.  He is trying to earn money to go on a mission to China this summer, working in a hospital that cares for sick and injured orphans (mostly little girls).  He is the middle of 3 boys, but the 2nd of 5 children - he was 8 when his parents adopted 2 little Chinese girls.  He has all the trials and tribulations of a middle child, especially those that a teenage boy with main interests involving his car and motorbike, but he is so dedicated and truly delightful.  I am blessed to have him for a neighbor, and probably wouldn't have been able to appreciate how generous and kind he is if I had been able to do my own weeds.

Geez, too much heavy thinking - need to go for iced tea and lighten up! Have a good one, everybody!

LInda I have been off tamox a week now and my hotflashes have stopped and I am now sleeping without lunesta again.  But I have had arthritis since taking tamox.  One Dr told me it is from rads but I think tamox keeps the inflamation going.  Anway started with my left hip, that got better, then my neck and that got better but now it is my left shoulder is killing me.  I had to go off my Celebrex for pre-op so it is really killing me and I can take a steroid pac until after surgery so Tylenol is pretty much it.  I wonder if others have inflamation issue because I am convinced that tamoxifen keeps it aggrivated.

LInda I do hope you get to feeling better soon

I have so productive around my house the last two weekends getting ready for surgery.  At least something got me motivated to get all these little jobs taken care of and now does not look cluttered.  Also my garden looks amazing.  I had to thin the plants this weekend.

Harley will be praying for your friend.

Sherry - I know what you mean about getting stuff done before surgery. We have been trying to remodel the living room for months now and it is finally getting done.  I don't want to have to look at it and worry about when it is going to get done.  It is getting done now.   Spent the day painting the walls,  Have one more coat to go.  Next weekend we will rip up the carpet and put down the laminate flooring.  The trim - baseboards, door frames and crown moldings will have to wait until I have recouped.  Just know that I will be with you in spirit and will pray for a speedy recovery.

Linda - keep on with that heavy thinking, I enjoy hearing everyone's deep thoughts, because they are thought-provoking for me, too!  Neat thought about how you might not have gotten to know your neighbor if you didn't need his help.  I hope somebody comes up with something soon that actually works on neuropathy - I have heard that the current recommendations don't really help.  I'm beginning to realize that whatever suggestions I get from my onc about complaints I may have don't - really - work.

Sherry - I feel like Tamoxifen is keeping my fibromyaglia (inflammation in the muscle tissue) flared up, some days are worse than others. Inflammation is related to the immune system.  I'm trying different things that supposedly strengthen your immune system.  Maybe that will reduce the inflammation.  My immune system has taken a beating since I got a sinus infection in January.  Then in February, my son came home with the worst virus I've seen in years.  I've increased my Vit C to 2000 mg, also take a combo Echinacea I got at CVS.  I've also heard zinc boosts the immune system.  They also say drink a ton of water, and sadly, that some people get inflammation from eating nightshade vegetables, aka...TOMATOES!  Which I LOVE!  Eliminating those will be the LAST thing I try!  Maybe for a quick fix - to see if it helps - try eliminating tomatoes until after you can take the Celebrex again. Hope you feel better soon!

heartnsoul--funny you mention the immune system.  I have been trying to boost my immune system because it has been shot over the last several years and I am sure that is why i got BC.  I can always judge my immune system by my fever blister breakouts.  I have been taking Zinc and a chinese herb Astragalus.  I do think they are working as my WBC is slowing going up and my fever blister breakouts have lessened.  But I had to stop all of that with pre-op so I am sure that is also agrivating this inflammation issue I am having. I may have to try the vitamin C I have not done that.

    Sherryc-

    Thanks for the prayers.

I saw my friend on Saturday, and she told me that she will not even talk to the onc...  ....sigh...

Of course I am supporting her, but she is just so very young, and the cancer is very aggressive!

    Hugs to all

Heck...after last summer, anything below 105 degrees is a cool spell!  Watching the storms build in the hill country.  I hoping we only get the much needed heavy rain and none of the tornadoes or hail tonight.

June- the lymphodema massage therapist has been working on my ribs...she said that radiation can (and this is not her wording) make the cartiledge a bit more pliable..that it is not uncommon for radiated mammas to hav eribs go out of whack..that mine keep going out is a bit odd but I am going to an osteopath on Wednesday to try and look at the whole package instead of doing it piece meal. Have not gone to the chiropractor for 10 days and feeling better. Massage also really helps the scar tissue heal.

Sandee - Big congrats on your one year heart attack anniversary.  You really are an amazing person.

Ceez - Congrats on your MO appt.  That is the news we all like to hear.

I am going for a mammo first thing in the morning - have to be at the imaging center at 7:30.  This mammo is being done for my upcoming recon surgery. PS wants to use this as a baseline and of course to make sure it is clear.   I can sit hear and say I am not worried about it but then again I can not lie to you wonderful ladies.  I am scared to death.  I am so afraid something else is going to be found and I won't be able to get my boob fixed.  I have read repeatedly on this thread how positive I am about all this and usually I am but I just can't get this knot out of my stomach.  Gonna stop rambling now - thanks for listening.

Jo - I would be honored to be in your pocket tomorrow as you march on towards recon. I would bring coffee & donuts but am afraid Tink might cause a spill with all that wing flappin'.

Paula - One year and look at you now. I concur with Jo that you are an amazing woman. Your strength is admirable.

Hope everyone has a wonderful Tuesday... Hugs!
