Galsal - What a bummer!!  Let me know when you get yours.  I also have an appt with my PS on the same day you do.  I have to go sign the consent forms and get my pre op stuff.  Depending on what time your appt is we can jump in each other's pockets.  Mine is at 1:30.

Galsal - Pocket parties it is.  Why do I get the feeling there will be more joining in so we better wear something with big pockets.  I always save room on my shoulder for Tink - that way her wings don't get messed up - LOL!

Winnie - my onc doesn't check estrogen levels, ever.  I know a lot of people go to a different doctor for that just so they can keep an eye on them.

Paula - my onc DOES do bloodwork every 3 months.  It tells her my Tumor Marker level, how my liver is handling Tamoxifen and then all the regular stuff like white & red blood cell counts.  I think after 2 years of no problems, I will see her every 6 months so the time for that may be coming up!  My doctor agrees about not doing too much testing - like CT scans, mammos, MRIs - but I don't think checking your blood work is over-testing.  I think it's routine for women with larger tumors and/or chemo. I was getting mammos every 6 months and the other day my doctor surprised me by saying I don't need them but once per year.  He said for younger women they don't want to test too much because cumulatively we would have been exposed a lot more than an older woman and that is a risk factor in itself.  So unless there's a problem, they won't be doing all those scans on me on a regular basis anymore.  But blood work is no big deal and gives them a lot of information.  I love your new haircut!  I'm still hanging onto my chemo curls, too, for whatever reason.  I've always had long hair so my idea is to put some big hot rollers on it and see if that changes the curl to just a wave.  If that works, I'll do that for a while.  But I'm wondering, when you cut off the curls was it straight hair underneath all that?  I keep telling myself it's bound to be growing out straight by now, but I'm afraid if I cut it, it will bounce right back out again and then be too short to put on big rollers. I wonder if you let your grow long again, if it will start to curl up again...I don't trust it! haha

Jo - so happy you're all set!  And having it all over and home by your birthday is perfect!

Tink, thanks.  Jo's is a better date though.  Mine's another consult with PS so we can decide what to check out and get ready to set a date.

I was luck my cancer was caught early stage 0 had lumpectomy the 8th. Start mammosite rads on Thursday. It's twice a day for 5 days at a high dose. Plan to to see onc after rads. I need something for hot flashes. My surgeron took me off my hrts because of the estrogon I guess that's a no no. I wish you well. Joni from phoenix

Welcome Joni - Sorry we had to meet this way but glad you found us.  This is a great group of women with lots of good information and support.  I tried mammosite rads but the catheter would not fit properly so ended up doing 6 weeks of rads.

Joni, Where on Whidby are you from?  I love that island.  We used to have friends living there that we visited quite a few times.

DH and I have lived in a little beach community on the Washington coast for the last 22 years But Wash has been home to him all his life and to me since I was seven.

Joni - yes, I was born in 1955.  We are very close in age.  I was so disappointed when my BS took the catheter out before I could do the rads.  So glad it is working for you.  You will be finished before you know it and then you can let the healing begin.  You have to watch this group of sisters - we tend to get wild and crazy sometimes - we can get serious when we have to.

    Hi, Ladies,

Haven't posted in more than forever. Been living on the leukemia floor with Dad since mid february. Though he is holding his own, the first two treatments they tried havent worked. Going for a third, experimental trial and pray this one works as theres not much left to try after this. Hospital is in NYC so I've been staying with Mom for weeks at a time, then flying back home for short visits just to kiss hubby and the kids (and ignore the mess) then turning around and coming back again. This week will be my third trip in two months and I can't even be sure how long I'll stay. Depends on Dads outcome. Crazy, crazy time. Did this with Mom with lung cancer in 2009 (she's ok!) Then 2010 was my year to do BC, and Dad started his adventure at the end of 2011. I'm sorry to vent, but that's one of the things I love about coming here to my tami friends. You guys get it. I'm just tired of dealing with hospitals and illness. Yet even with all of this I've met some remarkable people along the way, changed the way I look at life, and grown more content on a grand scale, if that makes any sense. Faith has been key. Never can forget that's there's always what to feel grateful for as long as we're still living.

I did remember that this is about the time that SherryC was going in for surgery so just wanted to send her a big hug and wishes for good luck. SherryC, feel free to PM me for even the slightest mastectomy question.

Hi to all my other buddies, and welcome to the new Ladies.

Will try to visit more often. Love you guys,

    Shari

Shari thanks for remember me.  With all you have going on your suprised me.  I hope this next treatment works for your Dad.

I am ready.  Had car problems yesterday and had to leave my car at the post office and call the police to not tow it over the weekend.  I had a valve that needed to be replaced and had already made arangements with the car place and left my keys there on Friday.  Now DH has to call them to tow it Monday morning.  Mom had to take me to Austin to get my computer and run my last minute errands for my surgery stuff.  Spent last night getting my computer reloaded with my programs but at least now it is working. So I have everything packed, house cleaned thanks to mom.  Dog to my inlaws and sitting here waiting for DH to get back from prison ministry so we can head to SA.  Going to me our pastor for dinner and then to bed early I have to be at the hospital at 6am.  I'll keep you ladies posted when I fell like getting back on the computer.  I love all of my tammi sisters here you all are always so supportive.  Don't know what I'd do without you.
