Kathy, I would love a pedi right now. I have not done anything with my hair or nails since being out of work and feel so sloppy. I have not had my hair colored and the roots are terrible. I hate going out of the house but I am saving every way I can until I get back to bringing in a decent pay check. I can be very frugal when I want to be. I have a hair appointment scheduled for next week and really need it!

Cyn, never did plant flowers. I went out shopping for food and filled my gas tank but did not have the energy to stop at the flower stand in town. Maybe tomorrow. I is still ascared of hurting meself. I jest did a little sweeping in my pool but used my left arm. I had to stop because I could feel it in my chest. I jest HATE not being able to do tings and it seems like forebber since I could do anything without fear of hurting meself. Dat RB is a nasty basturd. I feel like my yard has gone to chit since BC. I used to love to spend hours and hours working hard out there. But nope, de beast kilt my fun. But enuff of dat....I hope you are enjoying the movie.  I have not heard of that either. Geez, I need to get out of this shell I am under, fo sho!!

Well hello there goils.......be careful what you ask for ...before you know it all the bresties will be knocking on youah doah for their pedi's... you know how I feel about feet tho and no way could I let a friend touch my feet...weird I know but my feet are ugliest.

meese soo fercited for da Stella to come to Disney with me and da boys and my li'l goil...weese have de fulinest time dere....I was a little worried when I found out about not being able to buy a FL resident pass to use because of it being blacked out for dat....did I tell you all that allready..I'se dont remember...but its like a 400.00 difference..so I had to cut it down to 2 days instead of 3 for the park and its still 300.00 more than what it should have been but what can I do??  I decided to keep the hotel the whole planned time and just see what everyone wants to do that last day.

Im dont like how you are feeling queezy Dorty...that feeling is the worst and I've felt that now and then and it pisses me off because I never ever felt like that before RB.  Im sure its all the meds I would say maybe because of my beer but I dont think so...I felt like that stone cold sober. So , when can I esspect da Stella?

The Book of Eli, Denzel Washington , Gary Oldman, Jennifer Beals ...those are the only big names...there were a lot of people that you say "yeahhhh I've seen them in a million things".  I wont give any of it away but I think its worth a couple hours of entertainment.

Well, ladies...I'm sleeping in tomorrow....fercited for that foah shoah..then its off to the beach with my little boys for the day...I will check in before I got tho because I have to turn on my pc or I wont see the note that say to pay my car insurance ...love the sticky pad feature but the problem is I have to turn the puter on to see it...sigh....some things just cant be replaced.

    love you girls.

    Night night.

Hello goils, didn't meant to go m.i.a. again. Just haven't been in a chit chatty mood. Been in a chitty mood though. Going to hop on my stool and down a couple of bottles of fukitol. I'll try to leave some for the rest of you but I can't promise anything. This has been a crummy week. But the good news is that I can wash down the fukitols w/lots of likker. So whose going to tend to me??? The good thing about being a westie is the time diff. There's hardly anyone in the lounge when i'm here and that means all the tenders are mine, yay!!!!!! Who's first in line for the limbo par-tay boys? What's that Mr. Big? You're suggesting a no clothes limbo par-tay? Well who am I to argue w/that! Cheers all!

Oh oh Shannon....if the Tenders do the limbo sans clothes, mese don't tink dey can get under dat pole. Cuz dere poles will be upright....oops! Good to see ya back, and ya kin pick any Tender ya want. Hope things start looking up for you !

Yuck...very sad news just came on the news. In our small city, they arrested someone who had EIGHTY-FIVE dogs in their home...in a quiet residential area, and neighbors had no idea. Some were very sick, so had to be put down, but they are looking for permanent or foster homes for the 39 remaining furbabies. They said about 90% of them are weiner dogs. SO sad when people let animals just reproduce like that, and then do not take care of them. Broke my heart. Dorkie, you are a weiner-dog softie, shall I tell them you can take some in??? Nah, I know you have enuf pets, but sure hope they all can find homes. Just so sad.

Good morning, Loungettes! Another beautiful day in the neighborhood today and I agreed to work extra. Sigh. Probably just as well, I am stiff and sore in places I wouldn't expect after my 2 hour paddle yesterday! Sore arms, shoulders, back I understand, but sore knees and ankles????? It was a lovely paddle, though, saw an osprey, some loons, lots of dragon flies and heard some big ole bullfrogs going garrump. The trip back across the pond was interesting as it was straight into a rather stiff breeze, stiff enough to whip up some waves and put some white caps on them! But not a cloud in the sky, brilliant blue, with yellow water lilies just starting to open up. Can't wait to do it again!

Juliet--YIKES! No AC + hot flash = misery! Maintenance there in 10 minutes is priceless! 89 is too hot for outside, let alone in the house!

Wahine--I had the same kind of thing going on in my family--my grandmother was Grammy to me, Nana to some of my cousins, Nana2 (fro great grandmother) to some of my other cousins, it could ge confusing sometimes, but it always worked out. Of course, at family get-togethers if a kid hollered "Mom!" he or she either got a dozen answers or none. . . The "be kind to yourself" butterfly doesn't do anything, Wahine, what have you been dwinking???? I want some! I think we need to add a cleaning contingent to the list of workers here in the lounge. Some nice looking folks who can travel at the drop of a hat and unpack, clean, take care of the lawn, etc.

DorKable--I don't think planting some flowers would be too much for you, just go slow and rest often. Be careful how much you pick up, if you have any lifting limits from your PS. Hmm, the lounge also need a traveling gardening/landscaping crew!

CynCyn--The "S" word is not allowed in the HTL! Now we've got to send one of the wenches over to spank you for breaking the rule! Understandable that you are tired, though, and don't forget the rads effects continues to build for the next 2 weeks before it starts getting better. It takes a while for radiation damage to show up, so the effects you are feeling today is from the total dose you got as of 2 weeks ago. Maybe we should plan another party for 2 weeks from now when you are turning the corner!

Bernie--Wow! Thanks for the lesson, that is fascinating stuff! I love reading about the traditions and history of other places.

Beanie--oohh, pretty Berry cocktails! Can I have one--of each???

Juliet--I wonder how vegetarians explain venus flytraps???????

Mrs. Vino--aahh, a foot spa! Such luxury!

DorKable--the rat ba$tard took 3 summers away from me, so I know how you are feeling. I'm making up for it since, though, and enjoying every little bit of it even more, so there is hope! Hang in there, DorKable. It does get better.

Undy---Good to see you, wish you were having a better time and feeling better. Anything we can help with ?

Wahine--I hate hearing about cases like that. And the human is just a ill as the doggies often are. Just a sad situation all the way around.

Princess Glitter Sizzle's DOTD is the Weiner Doggy
    1 oz Vodka
    1 oz Butterscotch Schnapps
    1 oz Coffee Liqueur
    3 oz Half and Half

    Directions
Pour DeKuyper Buttershots, Kahlua coffee liqueur and vodka into a highball glass filled with ice cubes. Stir in half-and-half until the glass is full. Garnish with a maraschino cherry, add a straw, and serve.

Kathy and Bernie, thanks for the great stories!

Beans, doze berry cocktails look so refreshing, I will be glad to join you.

You goils is sew funny, I just love you all so much. DorK and Kat on de floor, Alli says no swimming in her pedi spa. Well, not to mistake it for the pewl. Offering free pedi's.

Dork, won't your DH or DD help you?

Hmmmmm.........Shan, thanks for that nekkid limbo party. Sorry for the chitty week, but always glad to see you.

NM, your day sounds delightful and when I hurt like that, I say it is a good hurt, as you know you are using muscles that you haven't and should. Not sure about the ankles and knees, although my knees hurt quite a bit! LOL about the butterfly moving, I had to go back and look! I believe we had one cleaning guy, I believe in the picture he was doing dishes. But I say the more the merrier! I have been saving a lot of our "helpers" in the hopes of doing a little video with them, but just haven't had the time.

Cyn, another party in 2 weeks? I'm game.

Ok, I am Grammy to my grandkids. My mom is Grannlynn to my son, Dia to my daughter, and just Dee to my nieces. When my daughter was little, she took forever to talk. She always babbled with dia dia dia. So my mom decided she wanted to be Dia. Her friend is Naunie, and another friend was Grandma Lady.

Things are starting to fall into place. UPS came out yesterday and hooked me up, so I no longer have to type out labels. That took so much of my time. Today, we are having a date day and going to the movies. Next weekend, probably head back to Phoenix to bring back the stuff we put in storage.

Ooooohhhhh love all the eye-candy helpers, Lori and NM posted! Now I am glad I didn't do that housework yesterday.....hmmmmm.....I'll take him, and him, oh and of course him! LOL about that butterfly....It just looked so unusual so I stared at it for a LONG time, like in those pics you are supposed to stare at....and eventually cuz of da staring, it moved somewhat.....funny! I think anything will "move" if you stare at it long enuf. OH but except for husbands that are lying on the couch....no matter how much you stare it won't make them get up and work! LOL.

Window shopping was NOT fun yesterday...didn't realize we kept the salesman there 30 min after they closed! He actually didn't educate me on their windows, I mostly was trying to figure out how I wanted to do our HUGE (80"x102") set of windows in the LR.  Right now its 3 tall windows (dbl hung) with 3 transoms above, but I decided I want them all fixed (non-movable). Have so much damage around them now, so almost an entire wall will be out while they repair it. Will just do them piece-meal, as I don't want to have the whole house torn up at once. AND it takes about 8 wks to get them in. NOW I need to read aboout their windows, and make sure I pick really good ones.

Bernie, How is your cottage coming along? Sounded like you had a lot of painting, etc to do. BTW, How was the french wine that your DH brought back for you? Hope to get to see your cottage in "person" next time we get to Ireland, oh and OF COURSE, want to have a long visit with you this time! Last time was tooooooo short.

NM, I am envious of your kayaking!!!! So awesome. RIght now I am scared to get on our lake, with all those snakes. We have not had a class about kayaking, and I sure would like to learn how to "roll" and get back upright, just in case. When my DD was feeding when we were in VT, she took a pic of a long snake swimming right near the shore (shore?). About a foot away from where they were walking. IT didn't look like the poisonous ones, but THEY are in the lake too. So glad you had such a peaceful, wonderful time, even worth it to have sore muscles today!

Dorkie, That sounds so relaxing too, to be outside at the pool and by your fire. WISH your pain would go away, though. Doesn't sound right, to be sick to your stomach, along with the foob pain. Would your pain meds be causing your tummy to feel bad? We jest gotz ta git ya well, gurl!

Lori, GLAD that things are getting better, esp since UPS got you all set up with labeling, etc. How much more stuff did you leave in PHX that you will need to pick up? GLAD it is not with the douche-bag X-friend. What a horrid experience.

Sue, sue, where are you?????? Mese tinks youse needed to ketchup on all da dwinking, once de little ones went back to dere parents. BUT also, tink you were going to have to work a lot, too. Hope you are okay, though!!!!!!!

Alli-oop, my toenails luk sew gud now....youse is an expurt, dats foah shuah. Youse wuz sew sweet ta do our nails!!!!! But now my fingernails need fixing up...... (LOL).

Oh, still enjoyin de gud cock-tails dat Beansie brought yesterday. And the DOTD dat NM posted today! YUM......gud dwinks for our FRIED-DEY!!!!!

Where is Gail, Kristy, Heather, Jaybird, Karen, HunkyD, Dee, etc? (I know I prolly missed someone). Too many empty barstools here today.....come on back, girls! Lets all get fried to-dey, otey?

    Bottomz Up!

I had had to avoid red wine, which used to be my fave, once chemo starred because it didnt taste good. However, ive had some white wine and champagne (very tiny amounts) out socially and it was ok. I'd love to do more to relax, but my body seems to be telling me no- for now. Anyone else find their taste changed on chemo for alcohol?

Ohhhh, hate hearing that you didn't feel good, Juliet. Hope the pear cider and shopping therapy helped today! Funny about being "a guest of Her Majesty Queen Victoria"! My dads father was a foreign journalist in Australia, but my dad never talked about him....I think the "prison" stigma was so tabu back then, that he may have thought anyone would have thought he was a criminal. Sad about that, as Aussie has such AMAZING people, like Chrissy!!! And the relatives I have met there are so awesome too. No criminals, thats for sure!!!

mema, Keep reminding me about saving my pics to harddrive....I have to do it soon!!!! Finally got our pics off of camera, so will send to you and we can pick one to post. Gotta run right now though...more "window" shopping...not fun!!! Glad you are resting up from the last few days. So sorry that you lost all your g'sons pics till age 4...hope someone had pics they could share with you.

Cheers Dears! Hope to see y'all at Pau Hana!!!!

What became known as the great famine occurred between 1845 and 52 and was one of the greatest catastrophies of the nineteenth century. It resulted in the deaths of millions of people from starvation and disease and a decline in Irelands population through emigration. It was thought by many to be an English induced famine used by a greedy government to solve the Irish question. The potato failed from blight but the country was full of food, which was taken away from those who grew it, to be consumed by the expanding workforce of the industrial boom in England or by its army overseas. The English hid behind the fact that they were the constitutional government for the Irish people pretending to be concerned by begging food for her people abroad while at the same time by constitutional policies taking the food from the people. They were ruthless in putting down all attempts by the Irish for self-government and all attempts of resistance. They passed laws that made it a crime for a father to protect his children or his home from destruction. They passed coercion laws that made it a crime for the Irish to leave their homes between sunrise and sunset or to hold arms. They had a well-fed armed guard of military and police watch over them while they starved. Never in the history of mankind was there a government who acted so cruelly to its people. Ireland never needed the begging bowl it had its own food grown in its own land and only needed its own concerned legislatures to pass laws to save her people. The constitutional Government of England was then the most powerful in the world and had the ear of the world through its influence and press. They manipulated the facts to cover up the real truth of what was happening in Ireland the mass murder of its people and the destruction of Ireland. An English induced constitutional famine.

There were many reasons put forward by them to explain the great famine during the 1840's. The shortage of food was one. This was a myth. During the famine years there was plenty of food in Ireland enough to feed double its population. Yes the potato failed but all other crops thrived. Under the system at the time Irish food was exported mainly to English markets but from they're found its way to many parts of the world. It puzzled many to hear there was famine in a land that had so much food to export .In normal countries it was usual to export food only after its population was fed. This was not the case in Ireland; during the period her food was taken away against the wishes of her people, usually at gunpoint and escorted to the ports under military guard. It was then carried away on ships leaving misery and starvation behind.

The effect of the Great Famine on emigration was immediate and dramatic. Between 1845 and 1855, almost 1.5 million people embarked for the United States; 340,000 sailed for British North America; around 300,000 settled in the cities of Great Britain, and about 70,000 went to Australia. In all, more than 2.1 million people left Ireland in these eleven years, over a quarter of the pre-Famine population, and greater than the combined total of all those who had left in the previous two-and-a-half centuries. Together with the huge Famine death-rate among children, the result was the disappearance of almost an entire generation: less than one in three of those born in the early 1830s died in Ireland of old age.

this workhouse is about 20 miles from where I live- it is now a museum.

Throughout the rest of the famine period, which is generally regarded as ending in 1849, the workhouses never managed to keep up with demand, so overcrowding was always present. A charity worker who visited one workhouse wrote "In the bedrooms we entered there was not a mattress of any kind to be seen; the floors were strewed with a little dirty straw, and the poor creatures were thus littered down as close together as might be, in order to get the largest possible under one miserable rug - in some cases six children, for blankets we did not see".
An inspector to Lurgan workhouse, in county Armagh, in February 1847 wrote: "the supply of clothes was quite inadequate, and it had hence become necessary to use the linen of some of those who had died of fever and dysentery, without time having been afforded to have it washed and dried; and that, from the same cause, damp beds had in many instances been made use of"
Once admitted, Inmates were required to work a minimum 11 hour day. Inmates were put to work on a variety of jobs. Some Workhouses established Local Trade Workshops for eg. Weaving/Sewing/Knitting/Cobbling/Tailoring/Carpentry etc. Able-bodied Female Inmates would either be given Sewing Duties or Kitchen Duties (preparing and cooking Workhouse Meals, and Washing Up) Cleaning of the Workhouse, Nursery duties, or Laundry Duties.

Able-bodied Male Inmates worked much harder, quarrying and smashing stones, building workhouse boundary walls, chopping wood, and grinding corn, tending the Workhouse Vegetable Gardens/Farms, digging cess pools, burying the dead, stoking the Workhouse fires, etc.

The Daily Routine for Adult Inmates was as follows:

Inmates were awoken by the sound of the Workhouse Bell at 6am each day. The Workhouse Master then took a "Roll-Call" at 6.30am just before breakfast.
Breakfast usually consisted of a bowl of the cheapest porridge/grain with buttermilk (which was cheaper than normal milk).
Work commenced at 7am and inmates were required to work through to 12 noon when they were allowed between 1/2 and one hour for lunch.
Lunch usually consisted of a pint of Buttermilk and a piece of black bread.
Inmates would continue working from 1pm until 6pm.
Dinner was served between 6.30-7pm and often consisted of potatoes and Indian Meal. As you may have gathered, Buttermilk was given with everything. Soup was also given during the Winter months. Fruit may have only been given at Christmas/Easter, and was usually a gift from one of the Key Residents of the Local Town (eg. the Doctor's Wife). Meat was bought, but was usually kept for the Workhouse Master, Matron and his key staff.
    Lights out at 8pm.
Children were sent to the Workhouse School, and those children over the age of 12 were usually "Boarded-Out" with local Members of the Community. Usually Local Residents would write to the Workhouse Master asking for a child to be boarded out with them. Children were often boarded out with a local tradesman's family, where they would work as apprentices, and attend the Local School.

    Workhouse Punishments

Punishments for any breach of Workhouse Rules were very harsh. An inmate who refused to carry out their Work Duties would be given 24 lashes plus no Dinner for one week. An inmate who used abusive language would be put into solitary confinement plus no Dinner for One Week, or more. Female Inmates who breached rules could often be forced to break stones for One Week.

The Famine Ships - also known as coffin ships

For the Steerage a whole family and their complete belongings and food had to fit into one of these cramped berths, what they could not fit had to stay behind. This was their lot for the 51 day journey for the sum of £5 which would have been a well paid workers yearly wage. If they were lucky they got to sleep on the top berth because during the long trip and rough seas when they would be confined and sickness and disease was rampant everything flows downhill and the people on the bottom would be subject to all manners of disgusting things coming down on them. There could be 250 people confined to this area where they had to cook and toilets where just a bucket under the stairs, so diseases and death were common.

Wow Bernie, that is amazing, and sad, history. Never knew all of that. I read it all to my DH, as it was just so overwhelming, what the Irish had to go through, and just because of the greed and stupidity of another country. For such a rich, fertile country of hard workers, that is just unbelievable. BTW, my DH said to say hi to you! He really liked you a lot; he has liked all the girlz I have met, from this drinking thread. (So have I!).

Dork, that is funneee....you iz dwinkin wodka and mese is dwinkin vino. Have some pink moscato from Argentina in my glass right now. Actually, as of this moment, my next vacay is NOT until the end of August. Of course, anything can come up before then!

Here's to da joisey goil! Cheers!!!!

    WooHooo...mese dwinkin!!!!

Lisa - welcome to da lounge, not goot you have to be here, but since you are...pull up a stool and join in da fun.  I did have chemo and taste was a BIG issue.  I found I could tolerate a vodka/gingerale about 4 days after chemo dose.  But as my regime continued, it took longer, up to 10 days after dose, before I could taste/stomach likker.  Never been a wine drinker so it may be diff with you.  When you feel like sipping...do it...when you don't...jes come n hang and drink cyberly.

DorKa - still workin on da pics.  But mese here fer da pau hana

Juliet...sad bout da booby but glad ewes hanging out wif da pear cider.  I hate shopping!  jes had to say it :-(
