Good morning, Loungettes! The morning news cleared up one mystery for me. Yesterday afternoon there was a very large, very low flying military sounding plane that passed overhead. The Mainiacs (Maine Air National Guard Air Refueling Wing) is based about 15 miles from where I live, one of the military flight paths goes over my house, so I know what those guys sound like, and this was bigger and/or much lower than those guys. Turns out Air Force One was parked at Bangor International Airport while the prez was campaigning in New Hampshire or Vermont or someplace nearby. (The air base and BIA are different parts of the same airport complex.) Shook the house it was so low!

Firestorm--Now you've given me the idea of planning a wine tasting trip around Maine! There are 4 or 5 wineries that I can think of within a couple hours drive of my home, I'm sure I can find more. Wouldn't that make for a good excuse to roam around the countryside????? I'm partial to sweet wines, I may have to try to find some cupcake wines to try. The Winterport Winery is only 10 miles from home, but I've never been inside:

DorKable--doesn't seem like Obamacare has helped you very much, health insurance wise. I know it's made things harder for me. Would you believe that hospitals and the like are held to different rules for providing health insurance to employees? It's an industry joke that people who work in health care get the worst health insurance plans. The reasoning is that health care workers are better at going to the doc for routine check ups and stuff, so they cost more to insure. I'm sure you can get your average back up before the next round of surgery. And it does help to be able to rant and rave, doesn't it?

Wahine--it may be worth while to take your 'puter somewhere to have experts get the pics and other stuff off. It's pretty amazing how much they can save, and probably worth the fee, especially for pictures. Smelt/smelts, potato/potatoe, depends on who you are talking to. Call them anything you want as long as they are crispy and fresh! Getting organized is one thing, I have found, staying organized is another altogether. Does help to be organized when life gets bizzy, doesn't it?

    DorKable--thanks for the sentiments!

Mrs. Vino--Not giving Moler Foker my PS's name, my PS hasn't got a fancy business address or do any fancy extra special treatment that big stars like Moler Boy are used to, so they wouldn't get along. Besides, Maine isn't even part of the US, according to the Hollywood types, or so I've heard!

CynCyn--I've had a few of those "conversations" with techs that obviously didn't understand English, let along technical English, talk about frustrating! What's even more frightening and frustrating is the number of doctors in my area now that are foreign, usually from India, and very hard to understand. If you are working for a company that pays while you are on FMLA, count your lucky stars. The FMLA rules only say that the company can't fire you during that time. Believe me, health care does not pay during FMLA, unless you have bought disability insurance or have a lot of sick time saved up. Recovery from most surgery is 6 weeks, so that's a good number to ask for. If you get cleared to go back to work sooner, then that's a bonus for everyone!

Careyo--the medical community does not really understand cancer at all, despite all the "advances" made recently. Only a very small number of cancers are truly genetic, and a big study on breast cancer survivors showed that eating a diet high in fruits and veggies did not make any difference in the rate of recurrence, yet "they" still try to sell everyone on the idea that if you drink or are overweight you are putting yourself at risk for bc or a recurrence. BULL$#it! That is just medicine setting up the expectation that women who get bc do it to themselves, which diverts attention from the fact that medicine fails many of us in it's treatment of cancer, either by not stopping a recurrence, not curing the disease, or by causing permanent damage with the poisons and other treatments they subject us to without any real proof that an individual woman actually needs or will benefit from that treatment. Did you know that the terminology used when a woman has a recurrence of bc after treatment is "the patient failed first line treatment"? Talk about blaming the victim! Oh, my, another rant, and so early in the morning! Seems like my buttons are easily pushed just lately! I for one am going to continue to have an acceptable quality of life, and that includes drinking wine and other adult beverages from time to time. So there. Nah, nah, nah, nah, nah.

Husker! I think we all need a break from different aspects of bc from time to time. There are times when I have been more active on the boards than others, that's for sure, so we all understand that. Sounds like your Minneapolis convention has been a lot of fun! Have you learned anything new? Drive safely!

Lisa--I think what is easier to drink depends on the woman and the moment. I'm sure your anniversary ring will turn up, probably when you least expect it. I usually discover I've put something "in a safe place where I'll remember exactly where it is" when I've been searching for a lost item for what seems like forever. Do you remember where you were when you took it off? Chances are it's in that room. . .

    Bernie!! LOL!!!!

    Juliet--good point!

Princess Glitter Sizzle's DOTD is the  MONEY MATTERS
    1/2 oz Coconut Rum
    1/2 oz Dark Rum
    1 oz White Rum
    1/4 oz Lime Juice
    1 oz Orange Juice
    2 tbsp Mango Sherbet
    1 tsp Grenadine

    Directions
Blend all ingredients (except grenadine) briefly with half a glassful of crushed ice. Sprinkle grenadine on top, garnish with fruit, and serve.

    Good Morning,

The good news is my work station is up and running fine this am.  The bad news...I dont see any blue skies and it just downpoured like crazy...is there any end to this?  Its gone from calming to depressing.

Hi Husker....nice to meet you..Im CynCyn..Cyndielou..Lucy...call me what you want but dont call me late for Pau Hana. :)

Lisa, I hope you find your ring..Im sure it will turn up..maybe if your not looking for it you will stumble accross it.  If your jonsing for a drink and you dont like the way the wine is tasting right now it may be worth wile to try a mixed drink and switch up flavors until you find something that agrees with your palat.

Great laughs this morning Bernie and Juliet...such a great way to start the day..coffee and humor.

Hiya Chrissy!! Whats up for your evening??  I've been wondering what winter in OZ is like...does it snow there?  Stupid questions Im sure but I really want to know. How cold does it get?

NM.....I bet that 747 made some big noise for up there even considering the other militry aircraft activity..I remember when Airforce one parked itself at PWM ..seemed like the whole airport shut down...The old Bushes used to travel out of PWM frequently.  It was quite an ordeal seating them apropriately with the right placement of secret service..Mrs Bush travels with a Defibulator...neither them or their bagges goes thru TSA screening either..so here's hoping Barbara Bush doesnt decide to join the taliban. ...That FMLA stuff is just all so confusing..they approved me for 10 days a month for a year for the FMLA..so I guess that means I can be off 10times per month  until next year without loosing my job.  I havent needed to use that ... I was declined for short term disability coverage last year because of my diabetes..but my company has a "Salary continuation" program which is what is saving me on this surgery deal. ...Good info for Careyo......I love that you are so knowledgable. The DOTD again sounds great..I think I may start a likker cabinet so some day I can make some of these drinks that look so great.  ... NM ...Have you ever gone out and done the Cabbage Island thing?  It used to be something I looked forward to every summer...Sure wish I was going to be able to make it up there..Im getting home sick for New England.

GOOD LUCK DORK and ALLIE!!!Hope you both enjoy a welcoming first day back to woik!!!  Meet you in da lounge later pee emm if your arent too tired for a party!!..Ohh I forgot who I was talking to.

Kath...any luck with your HI tix?  Do you have any FQTV points you can cash in?  Its a tough time for availability now with school out and people vacationing...and a holiday aproaching.

Sue...safe travels back to LV..how far are you again from there?  I know you mentioned it once but my beer brain forgot.

Otay.....time to get to woik myself...

Hi Cyn, my evening was totally uneventful.....lol......just relaxing and doing some work on some of my files on the computer.  I put so much chit on this thing that I have to clean it out every now and then so it will go a bit faster.....lol.

Winter here varies a lot depending on where you are.  Up in the northern area around the coastline the weather is very mild and quite wonderful actually.  Again on the coast line to the east of the country it is wet, windy and chilly and in the mountains you can have many nights below 0 celcius.  In the Snowy Mountains we also have a lot of snow and some skiing snow fields.  Inland. the days are mild to cool with very cold nights as that part of the country has a desert climate.  Where I live in the southern part of the country we can get all sorts of winter weather from very wet and cold in Victoria to wet, windy and mild in Adelaide, South Australia and it's very much the same in southern Western Australia.

Where my home town is, it is very hot in the summer as we are near the desert and very cold in winter for the same reason.  It has gotten so cold here that it has been known to snow but that is not often.  Usually we just get very heavy frosts that turn everything white and crispy and leave a 1/4 to 1/2 inch of ice covering the vehicles and sometimes freeze the water pipes particularly if they are exposed or the older galvanised ones.  Most of the time during the day we get cold crip air with clear skies and a weak sun but it is really beautiful.  Rain here can be a bit hit and miss and we can go weeks without any but there is enough to water the trees and gardens and sustain them through out the hot months.

Oh boy I think I've just rambled on and on about the weather in Aus but really it varies a heck of a lot from state to state and area to area.

Lori your pics are fabulous!  those vulcanic beaches are just divine and you look gorgeous even though you don't like your curls.....lol....you are still gorgeous in my opinion.

Oooo Dotty I sure hopes your PS can sort you boobie out........and I'm surprised that you haven't been wearing al least a soft cotton bra to hep support it.  When are you returning to work?

Have a great day all!  I think I'll go open one of the bottles of rosé I bought on the weekend and have me a tipple before I head off to bed.

TITTIES UP!!!!!   Love n hugs.   Chrissy

WHEW so much to ketchup on, jest from last night! Morning Girlz!!! OMG those funnies from Bernie and Juliet really get me going!!! Love being able to LOL when I am still not awake yet!!! YOu girlz rock!

Can someone puleez help me find my keys????? HOPING once DH goes to Tunica tomorrow I can really turn the house upside down (ya know the tenders are verrrry strong, and could prolly turn it "upside down" foah real!!). VEry frustrating, as I know it was the last minute with the taxi outside and we were getting the suitcases out the door when DH said to leave my big bunch of keys as he had one with him. AARRGGHHHHH......not in ANY of the places I could think of. HOPE that wedding ring turns up for sweetLisa!!!

Lori, gorgeous pics! Yeah, the blacksand beaches are soooo awesome. For some reason it feels like you should get dirty walking on that sand, but it is as clean as regular sand, just made from volcanic rock. Have you ever been to GREEN SAND BEACH??? It is awesome....you can find olivines just by sitting down and sifting thru the sand. We did that a few years ago, too. Olivines used to be called "Hawaiian Diamonds", not sure if they still are called that, in Hawaii. I have a small bottle of big ones I found when they were working on my G'pa's street on the Big Island when I was a little kid...you just walked out there and picked up all you wanted! NICE pic of you and hubby, too!!!!

NM, love your informative and FUNNY posts! Weird about how low that was flying, cuz it was AirForce One. WHen we were in Vegas "he" came there to speak (I really do NOT like him, though), and when he goes to HI to vacay with his family, it is always very close to where my dad lives. OF course they stay RIGHT ON the beach! But it makes for a big inconvenience for everyont there. OK, nuff said, don't like to talk politics here. I am sure there are prolly half of us for him, and half against. OFF my soapbox! LOL.

See what ya started Alli, with those pellets? Soon, we ALL will have our libidos working again! LOL. So glad you are doing that, Lori. Sounds like a good plan!!!

Good luck to Alli and Dorkie, going back to work today!!!

Cyn, Glad your puter is back up and running. I am sooooooo depressed that mine died. I think my DD can prolly get the pics off it, so hopefully she can. I took a pic to show my dad the rotten area I had to dig out, and of course put it on the puter right away, and took it off my camera....didn't get to send it to him. And already I have it half-way patched up.

Hugs to ALLLLLLLLLL you WUNNERFUL Loungettes!!! Dwink up, after all it is TWOS-DEY, so we kin have two of NM's "Money Matters"! Sounds very ONO, actually!!! OH forgot, NM you and I could go wine-tasting together as we BOTH like the sweet wines!! THat would be awesome!

    Have a great drinking day!

Good afternoon, Loungettes! Puttering away at some stuff around the house, not getting a lot done but getting something done.

Cyncyn--it sounds to me like your company is playing fast and loose with the FMLA time. By regulation an employee can have up to 12 weeks of time off without losing the job. The time can be cummulative, so that each day taken off counts as one day of the 60 (for a 5 day a week worker). I don't think they can really say you can have so much per month, but if it's working for you, go with it. I have done the Cabbage Island thing, but having grown up on Mt Desert Island I know lots of fishermen, so I get my lobster at boat price, corn at local farm stands, quite a bit less expensive that way! When you are at the point where a trip to Maine is in your plans let me know and I'll arrange a good, old-fashioned, on the ocean clambake for you! And anyone else who wants to come, too! Air Force One was a really noisy plane going over my place, that's for sure. The commercial flight paths are not directly overhead, so even when the plane is low and slow it doesn't rattle the dishes in the cabinets.

Goldie--great pics! That's exactly what I want to see! Not so sure about the helicopter ride, though, not crazy about small aircraft, but to see a lava flow I would probably do it1

Chrissy--great discription of the climate in your part of the world. Australia and the surrounding areas are another place on my bucket list to see.

Wahine--if you are anything like me you took your keys anyway, and they are somewhere in your luggage! I've done that so many times it's become routine. I'm sure yours will turn up soonliest. I hear you about the inconvenience. When 'they' vacationed in Bar Harbor a huge section of the major road into and out of town was closed off. People couldn't get to work, visitors couldn't get out of their hotels and go anywhere, businesses lost lots of money. It was NOT amusing to anyone! My Aunt had to bully her way past the security people to go visit my Gram, who was living in a nursing home in that area. Auntie actually told the security people that she didn't give a chit about Mr. Prezzie, she wanted to visit her 90 year old mother and was going, like she does every week, unless Mr. Prezzie was going to guarantee that her mom wouldn't miss her visit. Needless to say auntie did get through, although with an escort. Apparently some of our tax money paid the salary of the security man who sat outside my grandmother's room for several hours while auntie visited. Mr Prezzie was well protected from my aunt and then wheel-chair bound grandmother, neither of whom cared a whit about 'him' being in town!

nm -love your aunt!   to those of you that have lost things ,stop looking for them then they turn up whenyou least expect it!   wouldn't it be nice if we used the same safe place all the time.nm is right about healthcare workers insurance.    right now mine is not too bad as long as  i stay in system(which is great if there are competent people in the system which in the past the plans i had left a lot to be desired) ,i have access to a breast health center and all my mds are board certified plus they believe in pain control for procedures here(unlike maine),and my particular prescriptions are currently free but its mail order and the bottles are warm too touch by time i get them as they have been in the truck all day in the fl sunshine, pharmacist said they are heat stable!Yell,    i want to go to hawaii and australia,  hoping to go next year to one of them if medical wise ,bad boob can behave,  next round of testing is oct and i'm hoping  for negative this time ,no biopsy's required    cyncyn-  its still really windy here with occasional heavy showers have only been to the mailbox today,  how are you doing?  did you get your pudding?

Checking in with the goils but jest fur a minute. Have a day off finally from running the brothers/mom all over the state of cali. I'm hiding in here, think I lost them, whew. Now it's me time today,of course it''s not fun time. Me time is usually errands, not pools or dwinking or tenders. It's shopping for pre-sewgery pillows, pajamas etc. Learned what I needed from not having it the last time. CYN-I always thought Florida would be a great place to live w/the sunshine but my cousin set me straight on that. The humidity/storms are not for me and Hawaii is similar-78 yr round and seems like rain every day. I'll take the cali heat and sunshine. Glad all the goils in those stormy states are still hanging in there. We have our earthquakes here(which I hate) but those hurricanes, tornadoes etc are pretty scary. JULIET-Loved the joke about him dying, hahaha. Wish I could chat more but need to git going. And if any pasty white irish people come in here looking for me don't let them in! CHEERS!

NativeMainer, you are right on about the FMLA. And no, we don't pay people when they are on it in our school district (usually new moms who take time off with baby.) In CA teachers/admins do not get short term disability as insurance or from the state. Good thing I was healthy for many years and stacked up 145 sick days ( have now used about 90 of them.)

Here ya go, Cyn....a peach daiquiri made with LOTS of peaches and LOTS of rhum, and ICE CREAM too....it is sooooo good, drinking it right now! OK, i looked up "Olivine" so I wouldn't give out wrong info, and this is what I found...

Olivine is known by many names.  Besides its actual mineral names, forsterite and fayalite, it is known as "chrysolite", "evening emerald" and peridot.  The term chrysolite is an old German name that was applied to gemmy olivine, but now is only sometimes used to refer to light yellowish green olivine. Evening emerald is a name given to olivine's gemstone variety, peridot, by some jewelers in some attempt to increase the apparent value of the stones.

    Cheers!!! Bottomz Up! Tits Up!!!!

I am a pasty white irish person.

A big game hunter walked into the bar and bragged to everyone about his skills as a hunter. The man was undoubtedly a good shot and no one could dispute that. But then he said that they could blindfold him, and he would recognize any animal's skin from its feel. And if he could locate the bullet hole. he would even tell them what caliber rifle was used to shoot it. This was a bit too much for the other customers, and soon a heated argument was going on. Then the hunter said that he was willing to prove it if they would put up the drinks, and the bet was on.
They blindfolded him carefully and took him to his first animal skin. After feeling it for a few moments, he announced, "Spring Buck." Then he felt for the bullet hole and declared, "Shot with a .22 rifle." The others could not believe it. He was right, and the argument was even hotter than before. When some started to suggest that he must have peeked, he said that he was prepared to do it again. He would put up all the drinks they had bought before against them buying another round for him.
So they blindfolded him again, very thoroughly this time, and they brought a skin that someone happened to have in their car. He took a bit longer this time and then said, "Kalahari Lion" and fingering the bullet hole said, "and the rifle was a .308," which of course was right. This, of course, was like throwing fat on the fire, and he had to prove is skills over and over again, every time against a round of drinks.
Finally he staggered home, stoned out of his mind, and went to sleep. The next morning he got up and saw in the mirror that he had one heck of a shiner. So he said to his wife, "Listen, I know I was drunk last night, but not too drunk to know that I did not fight anyone in that bar. So where did I get this black eye?" His wife replied angrily, "From me, of course."
"But what did I do?" he asked. She replied, "You got into bed and put your hand down my panties. Then you fiddled around a bit and announced in a triumphant tone, 'Skunk, killed with an axe.'"
