Carrie- can you post the recipe from last nights dinner please?  I have the ingrediants on hand and did not know what to make tonight.  I would like to try it!

Well...my son got home from school and ate almost an entire container of cherry tomatoes.  So Carrie's recipe is now out.  I have no eggs...so I can't make chicken cor don bleu.  I am actually contemplating making a tuna noodle casserole.  I have never made or eaten one.  But another mom in pick up line today said she was making her child's favorite dinner tonight and that's what it was.

Tomorrow is grocery shopping and I am so out of ideas!!!  I feel like I make the same thing all the time.

Wow, Laurie, tuna noodle casserole....70's throw back, and one of those things that you can just eat and eat! I made them all the time when we were first married (such fancy cuisine!), and have not had or made it since the early eighties. Somehow, I just recall tuna, noodles, (tho farfalle are interesting), mushroom soup, sautéed onions (?), garlic powder, and lord knows what else.....Maybe some pimento? Sounds so boring, but tastes so good...probably all that soup salt!  Sounds like we have similar "wing it" cooking styles, Laurie. And thanks for your kind compliment.....:)

Today I briefly saw The Chew and Mario Batali made fresh farfalle pasta which he cooked up with prosciutto, chopped arugula, lots of cheese (of course") and I forget what else ....but I'm sure the recipe can be found on thechew.com. It looked wonderful! I thought it was something you'd enjoy creating, Nance!

Speaking of The Chew, yesterday I was watching it for my 30-40 minute treadmill work at the gym and on the second half of the show (when I was done with my exercise effort) they were having a contest between two woman cooks. Well, I just could not get off the machine for another half hour until I saw who won! My trainer commented on how long I was on, and we both had a good laugh about why. Fortunately, she is also a foodie! :)

So while DH wants to clear out that freezer, I made my way to the store yesterday and picked up some turkey breast cutlets, so I think I will sauté them tonight with baby bella mushrooms, onions and what ever else might keep them interesting....off to the internet for some ideas. Not sure why I need all these cookbooks anymore!

Tuna noodle casserole- GROSS!  I even made the sauce from scratch sauteed veggies etc.  Still double yuck!

Laurie just consider it Fettuccine alfredo with canned tuna! LOL

Lol Laurie! The best tuna casserole I've had is a weight watchers frozen entree. Don't know what they put in the sauce but it's far superior  to any I've managed to make for the dish.

Lacey, I wish I'd seen that show. My only attempt at farfalle was pitiful. They tasted good but looked quite sad.

Nancy - that's me with Stouffers tuna noodle casserole. I could eat it by the barrel-ful but then I'd be even more barrel shaped.

Luv, haven't tried that one.  Wonder if they're both made by Stauffers.

I see that Stouffers makes lean cuisine. Heinz has weight watchers.

Ok I'm a foodie. Crock-pot junky. Just made tater-tot, bacon, cheesy, chicken. Scored well with little ones.

Welcome Fujimama. Memory poor - have you joined us before? Crockpot is good. I love the liners. Has changed my life - lol. I made a pot roast with somebody's bag 'n season ?wine braised. It wanted me to put tomato paste over it. NOOO. I put sofrito in it place of the tomato paste AND water. It was very good. I'm constantly shocked at the price of beef even though I know what hay/feed costs. Makes me wonder what they are feeding those chickens to make them cheap enough per pound. BTW don't really want to know - I know some of the answers.

How does one make tater tot bacon cheesy chicken? Sounds like it would score well with my DH.

I had a lot of fun looking on the Knorr site yesterday for alternatives for this Garlic/Ginger cooking bag (it was supposed to be for pork chops which hasn't been on sale recently). You wouldn't believe the stuff Knorr sells in other countries some of which I would actually use.

Hope Carole is having a good time In Australia. I know it's been hotter than the dickens in many places.

Nancy - grocery had some Lean Cuisines buy1/get1. I bought some chicken wraps but passed on the Thai ones - you know I'm a hot wimp. Hoping maybe those will keep the midday grazing urges down. Have been better the past 2 days. I'd go for sad looking good tasting homemade pasta anyday. MMM-MMM - Good.

Lacey- Sounds like your lunch/dinner went really well and the kids and you had a good time. What fun with the puppets! What talented kids!

Eric and Minus- I think that your right, the one time shouldn't be a problem, Thanks!

    thanks specialK!

Laurie- I had to laugh when I saw you were making tuna casserole, I had a feeling you were not going to like it, yuk it right ha!

Nance, Hope tomorrow brings lots of sunshine instead of snow!

Carrie- I will eat hamburgers with out ketchup but wouldn't make the meatloaf with out it. I was out of ketchup too and didn't know it, I think ketchup if one of those condiments you kind of forget about.

Monica- Hi!! Last I was here a while back you were having surgery done, I am glad to see you are back and doing well.

I made a tasty chicken and rice tonight, didn't have a lot of stuff on hand so improvised and it came out good. sauted 6 boneless, skinless chx breast, cut them up in bite size peices, set aside. cooked uncle bens rice put a little butter in the rice fluffed with fork and put rice and Chx in a large saute pan, added a little chx stock and butter when the dish was hot I added 3 cups of shredded cheddar cheese and mixed until melted, took about 10 minutes but it all came together and melted nicely. S&P garlic and onion powder. If I had the ingredients I would of added mushrooms and cream of mushroom soup with a slpash of milk. But didn't miss it at all. Edited to add,,also put steamed broccoli in with the rice.

Saw this recipe below on racheal ray show, a little girl made it on her show and got first prize it was cooked in a crock pot but you could do this on top of the stove too if you wanted to and it would be ready a lot faster.

    • 6 to 8 pieces skinless, boneless chicken breasts, cut up into 4 to 6 pieces

    • 1 can cream of chicken soup

    • 1 can cream of mushroom soup

    • 1/2 cup green chilies

    • 1 teaspoon salt

    • 1 teaspoon pepper

    • 1 teaspoon butter

    • 1 teaspoon “secret seasoning” (celery salt)

    • 1 bag Uncle Ben’s Creamy Four Cheese Rice
    PREPARATION

Place all of the ingredients in a crockpot or slow cooker and cook on low for 8-10 hours.

Laurie  Sorry this post is way late for your dinner.  Sautee up bite size chicken pieces, add onion, garlic and spinach (or vege of choice) till the spinach dries up a little then butter, wine and I added about a cup and a half of chicken stock cause I added the dried pasta right to the pan to cook, or you can just add water, or none if you cook the pasta before adding. Add cherry tomatoes near the end so they wilt and get squishy but not dissolve.   I also like artichoke hearts in there. Dress with parm cheese on top.  Very easy, simple one pan meal.

DH and I had a night out to ourselves.  Went furniture shopping in Syracuse then to Toby Keiths chain restaurant.  had a great burger and fries, some beer, and entertainment..perfect night...then woke up to a ton of snow!!! Guess I have no excuse...will clean house.

Carrie, that dish sounds great, especially with the artichoke hearts. Dh would disagree however. My response to that is usually "pick them out."

I had my lumpectomy on Thursday, so everyone is cooking for me!

My sister brought chicken a la king over puff pastry shells. My co-workers brought lasagna, bread, salad, wine and the all time best pumpkin bars. My dad is bringing meatloaf and mac & cheese today. Tomorrow, my MIL is bringing wild rice and chicken soup. I've got them timed perfectly and I'm am certainly going to milk it this time around!

Thanks for all the good wishes, everything went well. Still waiting to exhale until I get the final pathology.  Gina

LOL ok so only 6 live in the state. That brother gets a pass. Although I did get the weeks worth of frozen dinners my daughter had sent. Those were good. LOL.  No really I am glad you don't have to cook. It wonderful to be taken care of like that! LOL

Last night I just had a Flatiron steak cooked in my caster on pan. Mashed Potatos. That's it. But it was done rare. Yum.

Looks yummy Nancy. We had a deli chicken, shrimp (steamed in the store) and a coleslaw/Ramen noodle salad. Odd combo but good. The deli chicken and shrimps were special grand reopening sales. DH has decided he doesn't like seafood period and these were actually pretty good. Oh well, not a big deal. We skipped going to Mex Food tonight. Having steaks on grill tomorrow and some extra BBQ chicken pieces for later in week. We may cluck soon.

Gina - sounds like you have the food orders down to a T. Yummy. Hoping path report is great.

Nance, I don't know why, but your picture had me giggling. The way you do when you know you shouldn't and can't stop. I don't even know why! It may be possible I'm losing my mind.

    They really do  look good.

Gina I hope you exhale with relief.  The waiting is the hardest part.

Here is a recipe. They put salmon in everything here. I keep wanting to rush over and say "stop! don't touch that salmon! Don't cover it with cream cheese!  It's too precious! " But there is a lot here and it's in at least 4-5 dishes at every pot luck

Here's a nice one from everything salmon. a store that tourists buy a lot of fish from in the summer

Classic Smoked Salmon Appetizer Back to Top
    8 oz. Alaska smoked salmon
    Herbed cream cheese*
12 slices cocktail-size rye or pumpernickel bread**
1/2 cup thinly sliced red onion
    3 Tbsp. capers
    Lemon slices
    Fresh dill sprigs

Arrange smoked salmon, small bowl of Herbed Cream Cheese and bread on     medium
-sized serving platter. Garnish with red onion, capers, lemon slices and dill.
    Makes 6 servings.
        * Herbed cream cheese    Beat together until smooth 8 ounces softened cream cheese,
2 tablespoons milk, 1     teaspoon each lemon juice and dill weed, and 4-5 drops bottled
    hot pepper sauce.
** Six split mini-sized bagels can be substituted

I hope everyone has a nice three day weekend, especially those who work.

Bedo that sounds pretty good. We like to smoke some of the salmon we catch here.its a hot smoke not like lox. Looks cooked but tastes smoked. And I bet I know what you were thinking about the bread sticks, naughty! LOL

Joyce glad to see you again. And I hope you have a great time with Michelle's DH.

Nancy I made a brick in my new mixer. Sigh. I knew it wasn't right..should never have baked it. LOL.  I tried a second rise it was still not good. Then I looked at the comments on the King Arthur website. It wasn't me! LOL.  Something was messed up but I thought I'd forgotten how it should feel. Nope I was right. So tossed it. Went to my old recipe. It's yummy! What do you think? It's the pumpkin bread I used to make in my Bread maker. It could have used a bit more of a rise though cause I used some whole wheat flour. But it tastes great. Will be good for ham and cheese sandwiches.

    Much love to all.

OK, Nance, twisted comment or not.....your bread is definitely food porn in the most realistic way! ;)

Joyce, good to see your post. I know it will be comforting for Rick to spend some time with you and DH... and for you to spend time sharing memories with him. He is a dear man. So sorry he (and you!) has had to cope with such a profound loss.
