Mgster,
Sorry you have to wait a bit for a birthday dinner, but here is a birthday cake with thousands of wonderful wishes and hopes that you have as many more as you want.

DGS is 13 and they treat him like an 8 year old. He is very tall over 6 foot, and a genius. I hope he will speak up.

Happy Birthday MGSTER!!!!

Well, I guess THAT'S big enough! xoxoxo

Happy Birthday Mgster! So sorry that your birthday dinner has been put on hold but now you have something to look forward to in the future. :-)
Well, Mr. D. put a bid on a house in Cape Coral and they accepted the bid so it looks like we have our permanent winter home and will be coming down for 5 to 6 months and spending the spring and summer in Illinois if all goes well and it closes as predicted. You're never sure until you're holding the key in your hand.
This is a nice place..3 bedroom 2 bath pool house but is not as large as we originally thought we would like. It is just the right size for the 2 of us and the cats. We'll have enough room to "hide out" when we need to do so and not as much to clean! I hope it goes through without a hitch. He is really excited.
Our cats are simply loving the pool area and the screened in lanai in this rental place. They are not used to being out in the air. I'm having fun watch them explore!
mommarch....so glad that the arm is doing better. Yep, you might just have to slow down a little and be more careful how you use that arm. As active as it seems you are, that might be hard for you to do! :-)
Jackie, the lady who is watching the feral cat back in Illinois says that he (or she) has bee showing up to eat because she sees the paw prints in the snow. Yesterday she actually caught it eating on the porch and sent me a picture! I hope the cat survives the winter.

Thanks for the birthday wishes, ladies! And the cake and present pictures...they made me smile!
Ritajean...congrats on the new house...hope it all works and that key is in your hands without any problems. My two cats are indoor kitties and they would love a screened-in porch. Sounds like you found the perfect place for you and the pets.

Jackie, thanks for the info on Windows, BUT I'm an Apple/Mac user! So far so good. I did the passwords and asked my son-in -law if he can check out my security /virus protection. Sally I will check my sent mail! thanks, Jean

Hi everyone, just getting ready for ZZtime.
Congrats Rita that sounds perfect for the 2 of u and u'r furbabies,
Chevy I thought u were going to say when u walk into a door u might remember, that makes sense to me--it knocks it right back into u'r head.
I'd better put the weather on, they flashed something about a weather warning, but I think they mean cold again, maybe not snow, not that I really go anywhere, but I would like it to be my choice, not the choice of the weather.
I skipped a Dr. app't today, blah every week some crazy Dr. wants to see me--just tired of all of them after all I'm a working woman now, I have responsibilities. LOL

Cammi! WHAT did you say? That I walked into a door? Are you daft? I said if you walk THROUGH a door! Wait! See, that's if you are a ghost, and walk through a door, no-one will see you! And Lord only knows WHAT we could do!
So try walking through that closed door little miss weatherwonderer! See if it makes a difference! And then turn around and make sure you shut it. Elstwise, you could do it AGAIN! The point of this story is...(and there IS one) that don't walk smack-dab into a door head first. Like Cammi said.
And you have "responsibilities"????? YOU said it, I was just wondering what they were! Your main responsibility is to sleep, and get well, and take care of Joey and KateyKat.
Nope, guess you don't need appointments.... Make THEN come to your house! Appointments are nerve wracking.... Don't need our nerves wracked anymore than they are..... already.
It snowed about 6 inches here last night! And no one had to warn us... We just take it like big folks do.... And we KNOW if it is going to get cold, because the temperature DROPS! Or you can go out in it, and wait and see if you freeze you to a peoplesikle! THEN you know it's cold.
I had to take Lacee in to the Vets, because she isn't doing well at all.... And has lost even more weight... She doesn't have any "obvious" signs of something wrong, just won't eat, and wants to sleep all the time... Vet took her blood... I just want him to give me pills to help her get better.... I'll know today. At least she hasn't gotten sick any more... But she doesn't eat anything. I'm kind of afraid to answer the phone.... I hope it is something that can be "fixed."....... He said her heart sounds good, and no lumps.... She is only 11.... our little Sheltie....

Very artic cold here in southern Illinois today. Will stay that way ( polar vortex style ) for at least 36 hours. I'm not liking that at all since I do have to be out somewhat. It will be of course, rushed as much as I can.
Cammi, I think you really do need to stay in. It won't be any nicer where you are and likely a lot worse.
Chevy......I have fingers crossed for Lacee. So hoping you get news that you and she can feel ok about. Hopefully, she didn't get into something that made her ill. Like outside somewhere.
Thinking of all of you.
Blessings
Jackie

Chevy, our black cat, Echo had the same symptoms in October. She is an avid eater so I knew there was something wrong with her. I took her to the vet and she just kept getting worse. We thought we were going to lose her and even force-fed her a diluted wet cat food. They did blood tests, x-rays and ultrasounds and found nothing. They gave her IV fluids because she was dehydrating. Finally she came out of it. I think the IV fluids helped. Our new vet told me I should have given her a teaspoon of canned pumpkin because it helps with nausea and hairballs. I now give her a teaspoon of pumpkin once a week or when I notice her not eating. I buy the can, put teaspoons of it in the individual sections of an ice cube tray, freeze it and then pop them out and bag them so that anytime I think she needs it I can just thaw out a spoon of it. So far, so good. You might want to try this old-timers recipe for digestive problems. Perhaps it will help with your dog, too. There's nothing in it that will hurt it.

Rita.....now I'm really green with envy about where you are....just read we are going to be 17 below with the wind chill here, and can expect this for the next 36 hours at least.....bbbrrrrrr big time.
I am thrilled that you found something ( Mr. D ) that would suit you in Florida. I take it you will keep your property here in Illinois ( hope-hope-hope ) at least for a good while. Will you be closer to Mississippi from Florida. My head can't remember exactly how the states are laid out --- but my sensation is closer. Guess it depends where Coral Gables is located.
Anyway....on to work and feeding feral cats etc. The beauty of this thread......someone almost always has such great, useful information. I didn't know that information about the pumpkin. Just wow !!!!
Blessings,
Jackie

Oh Chevy tell us what the Vet says right away and hopefully it's something that will just pass with some meds. I don't like to hear she is sick in any way.
Eltswise, what's next hence? Geeze u get serious about some words And remember I do have a J O B ya know it's cold as a witches um-nose so usually a lot of furnace calls, we'll see. I wanted t do a little shopping this afternoon, but I don't know to much trouble when it's like this, BTW did I say I hate this weather, oh if I did, I've said it again then..

Okay, thanks Rita! But she only threw up one night.... and wouldn't eat anything until just now! DH gave her about 12 little liver treats! She is very lethargic.... I called, but Vet is in surgery, and he will call when he gets the results she said.... Thanks Jackie and Cammi.... She really doesn't even go out front anymore.... and we haven't had her anywhere else.... I printed off what you said about the pumpkin!
I know how sick they can get, from eating sprayed weeds or grass! That happened to our other dog Chevy once.... thought we would lose him! I gave her a spoon of pepto bismol.... poured it down her throat, after she threw up.... but she doesn't seem to be "sick" like that..... I carry her out front, and in and out of the Vets, because she doesn't want to walk very far.... but I would do anything for her....
I'll let you know..... thanks guys...

Jackie, I don't like to hear you will have frigid temps for 36 hours...because I know it's coming my way.
We are cold and snow still covers everything. It's pretty and the roads are clear so not too bad.Chevy, I totally understand the distraction of getting up to get something and seeing something that needs attention and then hours later getting back to the starting point...and yes, I think I have heard about the doorways...I have backed up a few times to try to retrace my tracks.
Mgster, I hope your birthday celebration is worth waiting for....and stay well! You may not get sick.
Rita, well, congratulations, snowbirds! That's awesome. Since you've rented, you know what you want and it sounds like you found it. It's great that the cats can get fresh air in the screened area. I hope it goes smoothly for you.
Aww, Chevy, that's sad about Lacee. I hope she recovers and surprises you and lives a long happy life.
Time for sleep...work tomorrow. Easy day...no plans for the week end. Maybe i can kick thi cold out of my head.
Stay warm and have a good night!0 -
Well arm has been good for two days. I guess my get up and go today got up and went.
Got a few things done. DGD had a nitemare last night it was her mother trying to set her on fire with a burning towel. How awful. I really wish we had known what was happening this last year.
It is to be 14 degrees here tonight.
My best childhood friends brother who was 62 passed away on Tuesday from Prostate Cancer that had
gone to the lung and brain. We were all very close as children. My sister who died in 2000 at 49 and her brother were born the same day in the same hospital.
I made a cherry crisp today, it is very good. Just canned pie filling and the usual crisp topping.
Hope all are doing good
Hugs

I just love you gals! And Lacee is a little better! I took her in, so the Vet could give her an IV with fluid, a penicillin shot, and I'm going to give her Prednisone every other day ..... I take her back for the same treatment today, and tomorrow.... and see how she is doing...
She "seems" to be a little better so far! She ate snow again this morning.... and a tiny bit of her food I put down... He said if she does good with this treatment, that's great, but he might test her for Addisons disease, which can be treated also. She loves to go out back and stick her nose in the snow, and eat it!
Seems to be her kidneys.... and Adrenal glands, and Electrolytes that are making her so lethargic and sick..... He explained it all, but when you are upset, your mind keeps trying to think of more questions, and my brain just won't shut UP to listen!
I wish this Vet was MY Doctor! They just get to the problem, and get things done!
Sorry Mommarch about your GrandDaughter! What a terrible dream! I'm so glad she has you both to depend on, and love her.... a stable influence in her life!
And your "friend" passed away..... ? It just sets you back on your heels when you hear that..... sorry...
Thank you Joan and Cammi..... My girl is doing better this morning... she even barked! She thinks she might have maybe heard something somewhere, somehow, Ha! But that's a good sign.... You know Mommarch, I think SHE was dreaming yesterday, when all of a sudden she started barking like crazy! She wouldn't get up, but just laid there barking at..... nothing! I finally had to pick her up, get her on her feet, to "shake it off!"

I see lots of news here. I'm glad you are doing a bit better with your arm momarch. That was an awful nightmare GD had, and glad that she has you to talk too. Don't blame yourself for 'last' year. We are given what we must handle when it is time --- we just don't get to know all the reasons for the issues, nor why they end up coming when they do. Only thing we ever actually get to do is continue to try to keep loving without too many reservations, and do the best we can every day.
Joan, interesting.....even though the wind chill will keep us from feeling as good as we'd like, we are going up to about 37 degrees today. Except for the wind-chill......an Illinois heat wave. However well we might do over the week-end though, come Monday....back to the deep freeze from the sound of it.
We heard for a while that last winter would be much more so like this one......seems they were off by a year. Last year we had little snow and it was pretty much a warm winter. Part of why this one seems so hard to take, but we are getting the polar vortex and deep Artic freezes.....so it would be pretty un-pleasant anyhow. Whatever you could say......I sure don't like it. So.....either, I may want to think of a "winter snow bird place" or move to Alaska because if I can get through a winter here.....I think I could do Alaska too.
Be nice to think everyone will get a decent week-end.....even if cooler than we'd like. It seems Texas will be hit with some of this terrible cold. No place is getting off the hook it seems, while the drought in places, Texas and California is incredible. Thinking of you all and wishing you well.
Blessings,
Jackie

Chevy, Glad to hear your dear doggie is feeling better. They are part of our family. My kittie stopped eating twice , and as a result her potassium levels dropped so low, she was so weak she cud barely hold her head up. Both incidents ended up being the result of tooth infections! Fluids and antibiotics did the trick and she got better. Hope all continues to go well for your Lacee.
Beautiful, but still a deep freeze here. Supposed to get snow tomorrow, but don't think it is supposed to amount to much. Have a good day ladies. Jean

Oh Chevy, I'm so glad that your dog is doing better! YAY! Good news!
Jackie, you and cami and all the east coast gals stay warm. This strange weather pattern just continues to plague you!
mommarch, I am so sorry that you DGD is having such terrible dreams. She has been through a lot for her young years. Your cherry crisp sounds really good to me! Comfort food at its best!

You know, I started thinking, Maybe it could be the Glucosamine Chews I've been giving her for a month? I printed off the "Cautions" that are on the label.... and I'm taking it to the vet.... But it talks about "do not give to animals with clotting disorders, being treated with anticoagulant medications, with diabetes or any metabolic disease causing hyperglycemia with a history of urinary tract stones, with known allergies to shellfish...." I hope I didn't do this.....

And it seems her main problem is with her kidneys, and Adrenal glands.. so I'm going to ask the vet..... She really won't eat..... again.... but is out laying in the snow.... I even bought some canned white chicken meat.... thought something different might help.... but not so far... I take her back for another IV and penicillin pretty soon.

Sorry I haven't been on in awhile. Have had a lot going on lately & I know that's no excuse. You all have problems you are dealing with! I'm sorry to hear that some of your pets have been sick & I know many of us are dealing with this brutal cold & snow, myself included. WHERE IS SPRING?
On Tuesday, I had my 1st mammogram & ultrasound since my surgery & radiation. I was very anxious but so glad when it was over!
Last week, I was having some back pain & then one night woke up with severe abdominal pain & bleeding. I went to my Gyno Dr yesterday after work & she did a biopsy. She said it could take up to a week for the results & not to get too stressed out! Easier said than done! Of course I'm thinking the worst; it's cancer again. But it could be any number of other medical issues; I'll just have to wait & worry.
I have to go make some dinner for my Mother, then I'm gonna put the heating pad on my tummy & try to get warm!
Have a peaceful evening!
Linda

I'm sorry Linda! Call her soon, like Monday, and ask if they got the results! I know it takes awhile, but that drives me nuts... even more so than I am....! I just hate waiting!
And yes, you are right! Could be some kind of Female problem.... And not necessarily anything to worry about... It just scares the day-lights out of you when you see blood!
Okay.... stay warm!
0 -
LindaJD, I hope the heating pad brings you some pain relief. Waiting is so stressful ... do you have something fun planned for the week end? (((hugs)))

Linda every time we hear test--waiting we go a little goofy--but it could be nothing serious so try hard to relax with u'r heating pad and yes it' super cold out. Stay comfy and warm. And let us know.

Linda, when my Oncologist asked me what the worst part of the whole breast cancer thing was the worst I told her it was waiting for test results. No surgery, drains, recovery, etc could touch how terrible it was waiting for that phone to ring. Hope you find out Monday at least. Try to keep your mind occupied with other things.

So sad about the beloved pets being sick or not themselves. That's the hardest part of having a pet - they age even faster than we do...
Linda, I was just thinking of you and now you posted. I wish it were not such unsettling waiting for you. That is definitely difficult to try not to worry. Thinking positive thoughts for you.Jackie, tomorrow we approach the freezing mark then plunge back down into the ice box. My concern is that there could suddenly be a fuel shortage and prices will jump by a dollar a gallon for starts. I don't know how people can afford to heat their homes this winter.
We did not wrap our rhododendron shrubs we planted last spring...and the deer didn't touch them until this week...some are stripped of leaves. I wonder if they will come back to life or of we just have to replace them?
I sprayed liquid fence Monday but the snow probably washed it away.Stay warm everyone, and Di, enjoy the nice winter weather in the NW!
