I awoke early to howling winds and more congestion...will try for more sleep soon. The wind is howling and a little more snow is on the way.
I turned on the computer and saw a blurb about the growing propane shortage in the country with prices jumping by more than $1/gallon.   And a week of cold weather ahead.
Hope everyone here can stay warm.

Morning gals..... still touch and go with Lacee..... Now she can't put weight on her back leg?  I don't know what happened!   DH got up at 2, heard her trying to get up, and he set her on her legs, then I get up and carry her out back so she could pee....  Then I carried her back in and stood her in front of her water...  But she ate about 8 liver treats!    She is sleeping again now...

I'm taking her back in this morning for her last antibiotic shot, and IV with those electrolyte fluids.... and I'm going to ask what he thinks.....

I just can't let her suffer, or be in pain....  we know this.....  She CAN walk, but holds her one leg up....

I have to get ready.....  I'll take her in about 8:30.....

Chevy, thinking of you. I have been  in this spot  many times. It is so hard!

Jackie, think of the rhodies as being pruned. My hubby hasn't  been covering them the last 2 years. If there is still part of the bush that  is OK, the rest comes back. If they took them down to the ground, that may be a different story. We have 5 does that live in our yard this year. They have grown pretty used to us, look at us and keep eating. One year we had a mom and her babies, the mom broke her front leg, which was dangling. The young ones wud go ahead  a little, then wait for her. We figured she wudn't make it til the next year. Next year there she was, had lost the leg, had a new set of fawns! we saw her for the next 3 years! Wud enjoy them more if we didn't have to worry about Lyme Disease!

Bonnets....wonderful to hear about the deer that wish to stop awhile in your yard. Such lovely, agile usually, and graceful always animals.  I do would worry about the Lyme.  The good news is  ( about deer ) they don't have fleas...so that is one thing not to have to worry about.  Also I'm told.....deer ticks are usually a great good deal smaller than the ones that can find their way onto us.  The ones that normally get on us......get up on bushes and in trees.....so low hanging tree limbs, or bushes in your yard would likely be what you would want to watch out for.  I don't know that the same is true for deer ticks.  Also, I would think ( I don't know for sure ) that deer ticks might not be abundant in the cold weather.  They are not for the regular ones.  In fact, Spring is our worst time.  The terrible cold we have been having should have wiped a lot of the ? eggs ? out and hopefully we will not have too many.

The really pest stuff that you don't want around seems to survive nearly everything.....so even if we have a lean tick year......they will continue to be an issue.

Will wonders not cease.  Being outside this a.m. felt so warm.  Here we do into the 40's and if the wind does not come up it will feel almost like shorts weather.  Could hardly believe how wonderful it felt outside.  Well, come Monday....we will plunge back into the freezer BawlingThumbsDown.  What can you say.....it has been so up and down and odd.  I'm tired of it all but nothing to do but hold up for Spring.  Just hope that is not as crazy with too much water or something.

Joan, with our fuel ( we are on the budget plan ) it is low this year.  We had a warm winter this past winter which means when the fuel company got a good fill up price for their tanks......they pass it on to us.  So last winter we paid $95.00 per month for 9 months......and this yr. we are paying only $70.00 per month.  Still, next season/winter could be another high priced one.  We just never know how it will go.  We have to have propane out here in the country as we are.  Drat !!!!!

Thinking of you Chevy.  You know I will talk to you later.....but feeling miserable for the moment.

Saying hi to Di, Mgster, Sally, mommarch, and everyone else.

    Blessings,

    Jackie

Chevy, so sorry to hear of Lacee being sick. Someone had mentioned pumpkin and it ALWAYS worked with my two collies.  They just loved it. The vet would say feed them rice & hamburger, but they would never eat that.  But pumpkin yes. It settles their stomach, and if they have diarrhea it clears it right up. I had to just keep on offering it to them, just a little at a time and they would eat.  You probably know this, but up here they sell dog canned pumpkin at some pet stores. If you can't find it, then use grocery store bought ORGANIC OR 100% PUREED PUMPKIN. No other ingredients. Hope all goes well with Lacee.  Barb

Jackie, Lyme is a big problem around here. This summer and fall the tick population was high, due to the wet weather. Each deer, I have read , can carry up to a  million deer ticks! Many or my neighbors have Lyme. I was bitten, never saw the ticl, just the target on my arm. Got antibiotics , so no Lyme. Have an indoor cat and no longer  do we have a doggie. I  do a tick check on DH when he has been working in the yard.

Snowing here and a little warmer 14 degrees! Don't know if we will get the dusting they forecast , or a dump. We'll see.

    Hi Ladies,

Mgster...Happy belated birthday, I hope your DH is feeling better and your celebration is great.

Chevy... so sorry about Lacee, hope she is doing better. Please  let us know how she is doing. Our pets are just like our children.

Mommarch... glad your arm is better. Sorry  your DG is having the nightmares.

Linda... hope you get your results Monday.  Waiting is the worst part of all this BC stuff.

The wind is really blowing around here today. We are suppose to get more snow later today. Grandkids are suppose to perform at atheir church tonight. Not sure we will be going. It is a little over an hours drive from us and DH and I are still not feeling well from this respiratory infection(going on 3 weeks). Just a good weekend to stay in where it is warm.

Hope everyone is staying healthy and warm!

Hi all my beautiful friends.... Lacee is about the same.... I brushed her, and cleaned between her toes.... Don't know if THAT is the problem with that little foot, but she is walking about a little more....  I take her back again Monday for more of the same "treatments", then we'll see.

I think I said He is treating her for Addison's disease?  All of her symptoms point to that.... and that can be treated, once she gets over this episode....  hopefully!  I guess JFK had Addisons also?   It's all about her Kidneys and Adrenal glands....  and electrolytes.... I guess it just means everything was falling apart.   But maybe by tomorrow, she will be even better......   I still carry her around, when she doesn't want to walk.  But last year she was too heavy, for her build.... She was 36 poinds...  Now she is almost 24 #s.  ...  I think this has been going on slowly for awhile?

We baby her so much.....    it has to help....Smile

Chevy, My kitty eats special cat food for kidney problems, I imagine they may have it for dogs too! Think they make it from gold, it costs so much. When the kidneys  have trouble their potassium levels  decrease, according to the vet., thus the  muscle weakness. Hope she improves.

I just got to the computer now--Joy and I were together.

Chevy I feel sick about this, the only thing that sounds maybe OK is the Vet is saying she's treatable right. u have to give her a couple of days with these shots. They are our babies I know, maybe she'll be a little better tomorrow and then we will all feel better. She lost a lot of weight Chevy, I guess for now give her whatever she'll eat. Poor baby,

Hi, Everybody. I just found this thread. Chevy, I know how important our pets are to us, even more when we're older and the kids have left home. We have a dog that used to belong to our daughter, but wasn't able to move into an apartment with them. She's such a sweet, loving dog. The only problem is that even though she's kind of old, she wants to play all the time, and whines at us! We also have two cats, one a very calm, funny long haired cat and the other a skittish, nervous (but loving) short hair. The short hair cat doesn't seem to understand the purpose of litter boxes, which  is quite a problem. We love him anyway.

Welcome, Marylw I'm so glad you found us and hope you will keep coming.   I'm late on here today.  Sun is shining bright and temps are high....nearly 50 I think.  Tonight brings the deep freeze back.  Oh, I won't be ready for that at all.

We use Diamond Lamb and Rice for our dogs....it is a bit leaner then the Beef and Rice.  Also use Diamond Active Cat for our cats here.

Hope things are well for all.  So far a quiet Sunday.

    Blessings,

    Jackie

Hi Jackie, I'm originally from Illinois, too. I grew up in the Danville area, went to college in Charleston, Carbondale, and Edwardsville, and then lived in O'Fallon for 3 years. Oh, I lived briefly in Caseyville and Collinsville, too. I miss it sometimes, but not the cold weather.

Glad to hear it is warmer in some parts of the midwest.  We expect a warmup to the 30s monday then back down...
Back to work tomorrow....plenty of snow and cold left out there.  I've been in since Friday.
The respiratory thing has gotten DH and me for 2 weeks or more.  I saw improvement yesterday for a few hours.  And more energy.
Chevy, this is very difficult for you, and for any of us who have been through illness in a dear furry friend...and for some who have not.
You are doing all you can...and showing the love and gentle care that is needed.  I hope Lacee recovers and bounces back.

Jackie, Bonnets, I do love the deer...I know if I put food out for them I will just attract more into the area and increase the competition.
What a great story Bonnets about your dear.  Wow...I have not been able to ID my females but we have multiple fawns and adolescents and occasoinal bucks.  Total 7-9 max.  Sadly they get thinned out on the highways.  They bring such beauty to my world.

    Stay warm, everyone.

Oh Mary, that is fantastic.  There are a great many Illinois people  ( Danville is not so very far away from where I live ) and I'm actually on another thread that is all Illinois ladies.  I found it when I first got on BC. Org and that was the major place I went to all the time.  As I'm also 68 ( a bit younger when I started posting on this thread ) I fit here as well as there.

As I used the V.A.  ( lost my regular health Insurance ) for my diagnosis and treatment, I routinely go down to the Marion V.A. Hospital -- Carbondale area.  In fact, I go to the Women's Breast Center for my mammograms every year.  My surgeon, Dr. Marsha Ryan ( who I credit with saving my life ) who is not only is a surgeon, but got a jurists license after becoming a cancer surgeon and also teaches Medical Ethics at SIU-Carbondale.

I was born here but raised four miles away where I remained until I was 18.  Joined the service then and went to Alabama, San Antonio, Texas, Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri and then on to Detroit, Michigan.  After that, Ventura, California and was there for 25 years before returning home here.  Been here now 16 years and not planning on ever being any where else.

Joan, we are warm here today but it will all plunge back to artic levels through the night and will be about 8 degrees in the morning.  Not happy about that at all.  I just don't like going from 50 one day to 8 the next.  I actually have always enjoyed winter, but most of the winters have sort of drifted a lot slower into the colder temps giving you some chance to assimilate.  This going from one extreme to the other is rough and I find it is really not to my liking at all ( as the weather Gods poke each other and snicker ) and will be glad when we are through with it.

Thinking of Lacee and her meds kicking in soon and giving her a dramatic turn-around to the better.

    Blessings,

    Jackie

Welcome MaryLW from another Illinois gal from Bloomington.  We go through Danville every year when we to the Indiana Bridge Festival.  We are currently spending a couple of months just south of you in Cape Coral and enjoying the warmer temps.  In fact we fished on Sanibel and Captiva today.  So glad you found this thread.

Chevy, I agree with cami.  Give Lacee whatever she will eat, even if it's beef, chicken, or turkey baby food.

Beware Jackie!  It looks like you're going to get a drastic drop in temps overnight!  Stay warm!

Chevyboy I hope you will get good news from the Vet tomorrow about Lacee.   I'm sure Lacee will feel better after seeing the vet. My thoughts are with you as I my furry friends are also my kids.

Tomorrow will be the third day this winter that all the schools are closed because of the cold.  Tomorrow is to be the coldest day of this winter.  We had 5 inches of light snow this A.M. and with winds 30 mph, there was blizzard conditions all day today in the Twin Cities. There is a windchill advisory tonight through Tuesday night because of dangerous windchill. Tonight -26 below and a high tomorrow of -12 below, with windchill of -40 to -50 below. Monday night again -25 below and a high Tuesday of -3 below.  But the same windchill of -33 to -50 below. And of course blizzard conditions.  They say absolutely no travel on the roads tonight & tomorrow.

We are taking a friend to United Hospital to start her first chemo inpatient infusions tomorrow morning - coldest part of the day. This is one of the coldest winters that I can remember.  Even the Universities are closing tomorrow, and they never close.  Being a volunteer with animal rescue groups, I cry at the thought of our special furry friends left out in the cold with no homes. What a horrible winter this has been for them.

Have a Good & Safe Night Barb

Welcome to everyone who is knew, sorry you had to join us, but this is a great place for support.

Chevy, hope Lacy will get better.

Yesterday it took me 4 hours to clean 2 bathrooms.  I would do a little and then sit down.  I used to be able to clean the whole house in 4 hours.  Guess this is the new me.

DGD seems ok, but she says she will not go back to her Mom.  Maybe that may be a good thing.  It is a bad situation.  I am really tired and stressed out about all of it.  I need to let it go and turn it over to God.

We have had terrible wind today and DH COPD has been acting up.

Well any way this to shall pass.

    Hugs

You guys, I'm just going to take her in this morning, as soon as they open.....  I can't watch her go through this... She won't even drink water now, and it hurts her when I pick her up...   I'll see what they say, but she isn't coming out of this, and  we just can't let her suffer anymore....

She is out laying in the snow right now....  that's what she loves to do....   So we will help her, the only way we can.......

Ladies in the illinois area I hope you all stay in and stay warm.

    Have a great day!
