LB - I'm not sure if Parks charges or not (our Rec Dept where I work is a separate agency from them) but my guess is they do charge if the group wants a permit for the exclusive use of a particular area.  If they just want to show up as a group and take their chances that the area is available, then my guess is that they wouldn't be charged.  But they'd also have no recourse if another group was already using that area - first come, first served.  A permit would give them the right to kick everyone else off.

Annie - running in 80 degree heat!  That'll teach you to stay away from the Costco churro!  Sick

I got 15 people to sign up for that Fitness Challenge I organized at work - - the one where we challenged everyone to exercise for at least 20 minutes a day for 100 days.  The deadline is tomorrow so maybe a few stragglers will join at the last minute.  I was hoping for 20, but it's the first year, so I'll take what I can get.  At least the 15 I did get are VERY excited about it.

I haven't posted daily because it's the same old thing everyday.  I run up and down the steps in my house for an hour.  At this point it is what I can do.  It's not so much the chemo that is getting me at this point but my TEs that make it difficult to move.  I don't want to try running as they feel too big and heavy and they keep pressing into my ribs.  Anyhoo, I am moving everyday except for the days I have plastic surgery or infusion appointments.

Did some serious mall walking for a couple of hours between doctor appointments today. Now our roads are iced over and DD picked some ice cream for us...Death By Chocolate! ThumbsUp

Warrior: Love the picture and sorry that your TEs hurt. Congrats on all your movement.

LB: The cookie sale is still going on. It's been extended because of cold weather and snow. I'm not buying anymore because I'll eat them! Smile

Nats: So sorry about your in-laws. The Talk is difficult. I like what Ruth said to her father. Good luck with your challenge. I created several of them when I worked at the hospital (ex., Move Across America, Cruising the Caribbean, Thru-Hike the Appalachian Trail). The people who signed up for your challenge will get very motivated and very appreciative that you organized it.

    Annie: Way to go!

Ruth and Inspired: years ago we had a cat named Mr. T. I came up with a list entitled "Mr T's Top Ten Tips." I included drink your milk, exercise daily (Mr. T climbing a tree), eat a balanced diet, take care of your body (picture of Mr. T grooming), get plenty of sleep, play, etc.

It was 72 degrees here today! Had a strong, fast walk at the park today. (Mr. T would have been proud of me!)

Wonderland, we have purchased and consumed 4 boxes of GS cookies and that's enough!  But must do our part to support the girls, especially when they stand out in the cold in the parking lot of the local hardware store, how can you resist?

Got in a walk last night and will do some yoga tonight.  Right shoulder is sore from shoveling (I think) and a little gentle stretching is just the thing.   I'm pretty far behind even after just two days so will just send a ((hug)) to all.

So did not make it to gym last night but made it there tonight.  Did some upper and lower body exercises with weights and a little aerobics.  Will try and force myself to do a Leslie Sansone walk tonight.

Warrior_Woman, nice picture but how did you ever get a picture of me to place in the middle?  ThumbsUp

Massage tomorrow evening but plan to make it to gym both Saturday and Sunday.  Have to look over their classes again and get myself in motion so I can really look like that gal in the center!

Missed my morning classes because I was subbing (English with jerky 8th graders), so I went to a night Zumba class (very good class but starts a little late for me). I am subbing again tomorrow (which should be a better day because the class I will be in has a good student teacher & they just need a warm & living body with a teaching certificate in the room to make it legal), so no 10am Yoga for me.... too bad Winking

Mary, Really glad your in-laws are ok and commisserate on having to have the driving talk. As previously said, not easy to take the independence but sometimes necessary. Luckily for us, when we had to have that discussion with my mom, her Alzheimer's was starting to  progress so she could only remember to be mad but for so long.. Sending heartfelt hugs to you and your hubby.

    Patoo, way to go!!! ThumbsUp

Did the boot camp style class tonight. It was rather intense at times but really good. Sweated almost as much as during our outing in DC last summer. There was basic training type exercises for warm-up before cycling thru 5 stations each with two sets of exercises. (I.e. - large fire hoses/smaller ones, army crawling , walking weight lunges, core exercises, push-up/burpees )  Actually was alot of fun and a nice break in my routine.  Instructor invited us back for another free class Saturday at 8 a.m. Shocked

Also planning to do a local 5k this Spring (my first formal one)so really getting excited. Too bad there is rumblings about another Nor'Easter in our forecast.........

Happy Friday ladies and best of luck with your move this weekend Claire..

Thanks Odie.  Just did some weight training for the REAL heavy stuff.  Plus a run late afternoon.  Made a world of difference.  Waiting for a fab dinner to finish cooking.  My second-to-last here.

Early night tonight as need my beauty sleep.  I took a look at my thighs yesterday, and yes, I do need to get on my bicycle/skis. - Claire

Thought I'd see what Everyone has been doing - it's been some time since I've posted on this thread.  Glad to see some familiar names - Ruth, HB Cheryl and others.

I've been consistent with my exercise program since I first started posting on this thread.  Running/power walking seven days/week, and weights and second round of walking for 50 minutes on my treadmill three/four times/week.  Stuff keeps me sane.

HUGS to all, and will try and catch up with what's been going on (at least for today!)

    Julie

Odie - the boot camp workout sounds great but exhausting!  You'll love doing your 5K - something about pinning on a real runner's bib with your number, being there with hundreds of other runners, and hearing the starting gun go off and everyone starts moving in unison - it's a neat feeling.  Misswim & Julie - good to see you!!  Badger - I saw a weather report this morning and it sounds like you need to button down the hatches yet again.  Shocked C'mon spring!!!!

We haven't seen any Girl Scouts around our area yet - I'm getting jealous of all of you who have your cookies already.  Thin Mints are my downfall.  Of course I'm old enough to remember that when I was a Girl Scout, the cookies were 50 cents a box.  I love dropping that tidbit on the current Girl Scouts when I buy cookies - even some of the parents eyes get wide - of course they then look at me like I must have lived in the time of the dinosaurs.  Scared

Some good news on the IL driving front - the police officer who investigated the crash issued to my FIL something called a Request for Re-Examination of Driver.  This means that if my FIL wants to drive again, he has to go to DMV for a complete evaluation of his driving abilities, including a road test. I dobut if he'll do that, or if he does he won't pass.  I'm so glad the officer did that - now the cops can be the "bad guys" in my FIL's opinion, and not the family.

30 minutes dreadmill last night, plus a 2 mile walk - but since the walk was to the local Mexican restaurant, any good was totally undone by chips and margaritas.  I did have a salad, though - does that count?  Nerdy

30 minutes yoga today.  Woohoo - it's Friday!!!!

I love Mr. T's Top 10 Tips -- and you know, they do say sleep is something we need for risk reduction as well. I go so far as to try and make it very dark inside our house. Stupid alarm clock throws off a bright blue light, so I've been covering it with a washcloth.  Note to self:  buy new alarm clock today.

Reporting in:  Last night gym:  8:30 PM -10:30 PM (got to watch the Olympics though and Cash Cab).  2 hours = 12 miles (1 hour EFX and 1 hour treadmill).

This means only have to do 1 hour today and 1 hour tomorrow.  Yippee yipee yippee

Happy Friday Ladies - I hope everyone is doing great and feeling well, and starting to warm up a bit. If you are going through treatment, we are thinking of you and hoping your day is an easy one. :)

    Hi all,

Back from vacation - too much to catch up on so I'll jump right in.  Lots of eating and drinking and virtually no exercise.  Scale up 4 lbs!  Also got the travelers trots, still not feeling quite right.  Resort was beautiful, lots of relaxing on the beach, hated coming home to the tons of snow we got while we were away.

Since I've been back I've walked twice for 15 minutes, and a little classical stretch both mornings.  Need to add the new gym into my daily routine, I signed up in January and still haven't been once!  Bad girl.

Welcome home Pat and welcome back Misswim and Julie! Odie good for you on training for a 5k and Mary, it depends on the park yet some areas are charging up to £350 a year, or £29 a month charge for fitness trainers to use local parks - no special or reserved space - to use
public parks for their bootcamp.  Have a good move Claire!

Partner step and body balance at the gym this morning.

    Hi Ladies

I cycled 9km in 30 minutes - exercise bike.  The exercise bike seems like harder exercise than walking.

Also did about 2 minutes of theraband for my arms - starting really slowly - but starting.

And while peeling a gazillion potatoes I did calf raises.

That is the 2nd Friday in a row I have cycled despite doing mountains of laundry and cooking today.

Stairs, stairs, stairs today!! To the point of liquid awesomeness!! Winking

Tomorrow I will cycle again, but am trying to follow my oncologist's mandate of "weight bearing exercise" as well as cycling. Our roads are solid ice again, so the basement steps are my current best friends.

Dulci, I try to make sure all my exercise is weight bearing too, for the sake of my bones.

Today I did weight lifting at the gym - upper and lower body, as well as stretching, then came home and power walked Zoe, the Wonder Dog.

Did 30 minutes on the treadmill after work today plus some weights. Trying to keep moving to avoid any sore or stiff spots after the workout yesterday. Clearly I am crazy as I signed up to do it again next Thursday....

Well, darn.  I was trying to get out of exercising tonight, but I see that everyone has posted something ... so off I go.  I will at least do 30 minutes.  I was hoping to get to Wildflower Bakery afterwards, but it will be too late.  Looks like I will have to settle for the kale and blueberry smoothie. Going to get it done now. Thanks ladies for being here to motivate me!

Hi - back from the gym! 42 minutes and 6 miles.

It was scary there.  Someone kept rattling the doors (forceful rattle) - first the East door then the West door.  I grabbed my phone, and went back to the elliptical trying to decide between getting my miles in or wrestling with a serial killer.  Right when I got back to my machine, one door forcefully rattled while a guy came in on the other door.  I picked up my phone and had a fake conversation with a fake friend who was just parking the car and coming in to work out with me.  LOL  Then the person who came in went to the weights but he wasn't really working out with them, he looked like he was watching me, and I knew that there was still a second person out there who had rattled the door.  Any ways, I decided my heart rate was high enough from this, and I (still talking on my phone) told my fake friend I would walk outside and meet them at the curb and then I took off.  I normally wouldn't have been freaked out, but I didn't recognize the person - usually I see the same late crowd when I'm late ... and just this week on the news they said a girl who worked out at the gym on her property was assaulted walking back to her home.

Inspired, that's really scary and makes me a bit angry-- isn't there any attendant or security at the gym at night?  Good for you for quick thinking and getting yourself out of there.

I'm a week behind on the thread.  Hooping and weights today, a long beach walk yesterday.  Before that, some lackluster days.  I think I need to go back and re-watch that video about all the evidence for exercise and recurrence prevention.  I've been letting it slide lately.
