ruth....sorry for the sad news about your neighbour. Yes, definitely a reminder to appreciated each day.
sweet...ice your foot, frequently (20 minutes each time), especially after stretching. Don't stretch past pain and ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS wear shoes with good arch support. If you can take something like Advil to reduce inflammation, do so. You can even google kinesio taping techniques on line. If you can't get into be assessed for that length of time, try those techniques. From what you described....it definitely does sound like plantar fasciitis. BUGGAR!!!!!

Ruth, we were posting at the same time. How sad . Please accept my condolences as it sounds like she was a great neighbor.

Thank you everyone for the Birthday wishes. Oh Ruth I am so sorry, how sad for her family. Sweet you've been given great advice by Nihahi. Welcome Meadow.
This morning did my Sh'bam class and lo and behold there was the song 'Disco Inferno' in the mix, I used to dance to that back in the day so it made me very happy and then in the cool down I got to go up to the front of the class and dance.
Ruth I got your card, talk about perfect....... I'm off out to dinner, one thing for sure and I can't believe I'm going to type these words ... I will not repeat NOT have any chocolate cake, my girlfriend made her special chocolate cake and brought it to lunch so I don't think I could look at another piece of cake today

Happy birthday, Cheryl!
Ruth--sad news; you--and her family--must have been stunned by it.
We're in Winston-Salem, NC, which is a lovely town in a beautiful part of the world, but it was chilly this a.m., so we opted to tour the area on foot, which ended up taking most of the day.
Nihahi--welcome back to your 20's; the world needs more off-beat humor!

Thanks guys. You would have liked Becky. She was a school nurse & when she was younger she was the head volleyball coach in the town in which she lived (and still did some officiating). She's married, has 2 young adult sons, one of whom is married & has two tiny children. She loved animals, had 2 cats along with the 2 dogs & her family has asked that instead of flowers etc., memorials be given to the Humane Society.
Sweet, go sit in the office and DEMAND to see someone! It is crazy to have to wait more than a month.....you are the CUSTOMER!!!!!! It shouldn't be at their convenience. GRRRR!!! (When I had a case of plantar fasciitis, my PA friend said to wear good shoes, even in the house, no going barefoot.)
Blue, my sister in Raleigh says they are predicating more snow there tomorrow. She is pretty bummed out (not being as used to a crummy winter....as some of us northerners are....)
Cheryl, I wish I were there to do Disco Inferno (and help eat the cake)!!!!

Ruth - what a shock about your neighbor, especially since she seemed to be on the mend. I sometimes wondered if those funny compression socks they make you wear during and after surgery were necessary, but obviously clots are a serious issue. Sweet- yes, it seems your PCP should be able to see you sooner than a month. Do you need a referral for a specialist, or can you just skip the PCP and go right to a foot doctor? Cheryl - I downloaded a running mix from iTunes that was all disco stuff - it actually has a great beat for running, and brings back some fun memories of my youth - that is the memories I can actually remember, of course.
And I can't ever imagine being sick of chocolate cake - not gonna happen. Bluetail - love the giant coffeepot! Ann - I hear you on the long pants and hot flashes. During these cold winter runs in the park, I see all the other runners bundled up in long sleeves and pants and hats and mittens, and there I am in just my running capris and t-shirt!Pilates DVD this morning.
And it just started SNOWING here - ARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NatsFan - I woke up to an inch of snow this morning. Hadn't paid any attention to weather reports so was totally stunned
. I'm pretty sure if I call and talk directly to my PCP's nurse herself that she'll get me in sooner if at all possible. I could probably see a different doctor or maybe the NP but don't really want to! I want to see MY doctor! I did the tennis ball roll for several minutes on each foot last night and again this morning before I started walking around, and will also try some of the other stretching moves and see how it feels in a few days.
Didn't work out this morning (would have been a treadmill day), mainly because I was wide awake in the middle of the night for a couple of hours. Turned my alarm off and got up two hours later than usual when hubby left for work.

Sweet a couple of years ago I got the shingles, I called my doctor first thing Monday morning trying to get in right away as my Mum had had shingles so I knew what I was in for once the rash came, anyway of course couldn't get in till Wednesday (ahhh remember those days, now you're lucky if you can get an appointment a month away) well when I finally got there it was too late the blisters were already forming and he told me any time you need to see me you simply come in and sit and wait I will always see a patient and I always keep my schedule free first thing in the morning so my advice is just go and show up, be a PITA, and don't you just hate those nights, ughhhhhhhh.

Ruth, that is so sad about your neighbor Becky and so much so for her mother and son's - grandchildren. S&S, fingers crossed you can get some relief. We have rain today and no snow for us this year and pleased for the small mercy of that. Bluetail, like the coffee pot photo!
Body balance and yoga today.

Well.....my feet were lots better today but then again I didn't work out this morning. I did do the tennis ball roll first thing this morning and then again during a meeting this afternoon. I'll keep it up at least a few times a day and see what happens. Thanks again for all the sympathy and suggestions!

30 minutes on the Elliptical plus some weights tonight.

sweet.....have you tried filling and freezing something round like a pop bottle, and doing the tennis ball thing with that....I have heard it works pretty good. Glad to hear it feels a bit better, but keep up the tx, because it dna turn chronic very very easily if not fully resolved before you go back to your normal routine. Make sure you have really proper fitting shoes before you get active again too.
Today was some yoga, and almost 7km outside of run/walk.

This quote doesn't have anything to do with exercise, but I love it and want to share:

Love them Ruth, especially #2. IBD I've never even tried Keifer but I have seen it in the store, maybe I'll give it a try. Tonight did Body a Step class, I really am going to have to call it something else cause I just don't ever use the step any more just do all the movements on the floor.

Been a couple of weeks since I've been here, too many pages to catch up with, so will just jump right back in. Been going to the new gym, meet with trainer once a week, and he consistently makes me sore in places that need to be (like just about every muscle everywhere!) - Now that I have a complete routine I've scaled back training to twice a month (for cost more than anything), but I'm actually looking forward to the gym now instead of finding excuses not to go. Not seeing much change in the way my clothes fit yet, but have lost my February vacation weight, so things will eventually start coming together. On the few nicer days we have had I did do some walk/jog intervals in my neighborhood, a pleasant change to the treadmill (and much harder with all those little hills), and I still do classical stretch in the morning and a noontime walk at work, weather permitting (not today, windy and snowing!).
So yesterday a good friend calls me, and lets me know her needle biopsy came back positive. That is the 3rd woman in our 6 friend group to get breast cancer. What an epidemic, or is it just because they have better detection? She was surprisingly upbeat, and I was a good listener, but afterward felt so drained to have another person I know and care about dealing with this.

hi all, just got caught up. Welcome the newbies! Happy belated birthday, Cheryl!!
Flew to FL last Fri. We started driving Sat morning and got here Mon so it took three days. It was a good trip, we averaged 500 miles each day. I did most of the driving. Other than road construction, the biggest challenge was finding a hotel room temp warm enough for her but cool enough for me. Got her checked in and unpacked the car then came home to sleep in my own bed for the first time in a week. Went back Tues to get the banking done, find a local map, and tour around a bit. Today we get to deal with the DMV (Dept of Motor Vehicles) ugggghhh.
It's a big change for her, going from a big house into a small apartment, and the moving van hasn't gotten here yet so it's kind of empty. She's already made friends with the lady from across the hall so that's good. The snow we got Tues was the first she'd seen in 25 years. But she also saw daffodils and a robin so there are trade-offs.
Haven't exercised much this past week. Off work this week to get her settled in and won't be on the board much the next few days but did want to say hey. Hey! LOL ♥

Walked inside with the Wednesday ladies. We are so sick of walking indoors, but the temperature this morning was 17.....and the wind was blowing
.......I will do Zumba at 5:30 & maybe stick around for Yoga after it's done.....we'll see.

I'm putting my hand up too, Ruth. Can you see me waving at you?? Soooo sick of the snow....yes...it's snowing again...and supposed to continue all weekend. Did 45 minutes of deep stretching yoga this morning.....I think it's a crack open a good book and "rest the muscles" kind of day for me.

Got a one mile walk in today. Didn't think I was going to have time to get it done, but "yay me"! Hopefully, I'll get more done tomorrow. Until then ...

Ruth: So sorry about your neighbor. Very sad and unexpected.
Odie: Sorry about your co-worker's husband. Very sad.
Badger: Glad you had a safe trip with your mother and getting her settled into her new place. You made me laugh describing your hunt for a hotel!
LilacBlue: Hope the teachers get what they are demanding and your son can go back to school.
Good evening everyone! I still am dragging limbs to the curb that fell during the ice storm we had 3 weeks ago. Had to get a tree person in to help us with some huge limbs high in the trees. This afternoon I fast walked/ran at the park. It was 49 degrees with a cloudless sky and full sun.

pat01, so sorry about your 3rd friend with BC. I read somewhere that mathematically it is normal for random distribution patterns to have clusters. So I took that to mean not every cluster of cancer has a particular reason. It can be just random bad luck.
Just about a half hour of hooping today. I'm still recovering from having guests over the weekend.

Badger - welcome back! Sounds like you're getting your mom settled in. Pat - I'm so sorry about your friend, but she's lucky to have you as a resource.
Woke up to temps in the teens! This time of year our normal lows are 40s and normal highs are 60. Lately our high temps for the days haven't even reached our normal lows!
Hard to believe baseball season is about to start - we have tix for an exhibition game between the Nats and Tigers Saturday - they're predicting cool rainy weather. Not exactly baseball weather. Yoga this morning.
