Very well said Nihahi. What a good discussion. Each of us can only do the best we can, and each of us should be proud of ourselves for making the effort. I think the anti-hormonals are hard because you almost have to work twice as hard to get the same results that you might have gotten before. SadAnd probably the younger you are the more difficult the adjustment, since we post-menopausal women were already on the downhill slide estrogen-wise anyways.

I just did a Body Combat DVD Cheryl sent me. Despite it's scary name, it was very, very fun & doable (of course, I do not even try to bounce!). Great music, great workout. (I might 'accidently' forget to bring it back to you, Cheryl Winking.)

    Hi Nihahi

Trust me - I am just so glad to see you ladies thrive and I know its in spite of the difficulties not because there weren't any.  I really wanted to get that across.

I agree with every thing you just said.

I think that studies that recognize what chemo can do to you (even if its just the first year after - which everyone has to get through) are valuable.

Nowadays more and more people seem to be working through chemo - soon its going to be expected of everyone - and not everyone is going through the same treatment regime or have the same support system.  I think for some people life just gets too hard and it can interfere with healing.

Honestly I think it was crap advise to me to carry on working a normal day through rads.  When are you allowed to rest and recover and devote time to healing if you are working and running a home etc?  Proper nutrition and exercise take time and energy (and money).

Recognizing that treatment does take a toll shouldn't be thought of as a death knoll but as a way for some people to get some support when they most need it.

Again - I doff my hat to you ladies cause man you make life look good and that is what living is about.

And the fact that you ladies aren't preachy but just live the life is what I love.

PS - Took the cat to the vet today.  The vet's husband is on standby when Fluffkins comes for a visit as he gets to wrap her in a towel and make it possible for the vet to examine Fluffkins without anyone losing too much blood.  I stayed out the room.  There was a great deal of growling and hissing and other cross/scared cat noises and then the vet and her husband conferred in French of which I understood very little except for the word TIGER repeated with great emphasis.

You ladies look like gentle pussycats but you too are tigers!

    Hugs to all.

I am off to try a yoga class now.

hey bounce.....big hugs coming your way...I get what you're saying and meaning...no worries.

fyi....I'm a BIGGGGGG fan of yoga. It's amazing what slowing down and really hearing/feeling what your body is doing or trying to teach you about yourself...has been a big eyeopener for me! Especially when I get in a rut of "everyday is the same"....it helps me realize that in truth...everyday, how I feel, what I can do, is different, Doesn't mean bad or good, just different....helps me to appreciate the days that are easier, and to have faith that the harder days will pass too.

Bounce - I think you should be impressed by yourself.  I am at the end of my rads, after taking tamoxifen for 6 weeks.  I too found the SEs from tam difficult.  Just making the commitment to try and start exercising again is a big step.  There are moments where just thinking is too much, never mind deciding to commit to exercising.  I do what I can on the good days and try not to scold myself if I am too tired to work out.  But, I do find that I feel better when I am done if I can get up the gumption to do a work out, even on a bad day.  You are welcome here with all of us!

OK - I am sooooo full.  Today was our work's annual pot luck luncheon.  It's actually a competition among units - each year has a theme, and each unit has to coordinate food, costumes, and decorations to go with the theme.  It's so much fun - people really go all out - and there's tons and tons of fabulous home made appetizers, sides, main dishes, and desserts.  This year's theme was Classic Movies, and my unit chose Star Wars.  We won Best Overall Food, featuring dishes like Obi Wan Kebob-ies, Seven Leia Dip with Dark Side Chips, and Yodalicious Chicken dipped in May the Sauce Be With You.  A couple of co-workers had Star Wars costumes they brought in for us to wear, so that was great.  Here we are - I'm the very short (but still intimidating Winking ) Darth Vader.

It's going to take me days of exercise to work off all the food I ate, but it was worth every single bite.  Happy

Sweet, I'm terrified to drive in snow.  I work up in the mountains and once, about  4 years ago, coming down it was icy and I lost all traction, just sliding.  Both sides of the road dropped off pretty steep.  Had I gone over I would have been killed.  I finally came to a stop sideways.  I stayed there about 10 minutes scared to move even though I only had about 300 feet to go but it was still very steep.  Mostly it was me though because I never really learned to drive in it and when you are scared and unskilled you are just more dangerous.

Walked during lunch today then after work went to the park and walked some more.  I did 11,243 steps total.

Patoo - scary experience sliding down the mountain - no wonder you're not comfy driving in the snow.  Yikes.

Got home and did a 30 minute run just to work off some of the food from yesterday's food fest at work.  Still felt way too full for dinner - had a banana at 7:30 and that set me up for the rest of the night.

Yin yoga tonight.  It's a 90 minute class, but the time just flies by - I'm always so surprised when she tells us to start getting ready for our shivasana.

Nihahi, this picture will answer your question; the Wednesday Walking Women this morning (full discloser, we actually walked inside and this was a hill made by the plows when they cleaned out the Mall parking lot).

Weather was cool and rainy today but nice now.  I have appointment at 7:30 so will go out and walk at the local Community College for an hour.

Nice pic ruth.  You had me fooled.  I thought you were out climbing and was going to ask where are your hiking poles.

    Night my sculpted friends.

PCP confirmed my self-diagnosed plantar fasciitis today.  Recommended 3-4 reps of 30 second calf/arch stretches 4X daily and feels that will probably take care of it for me.  Also recommended I wear gel heel cushions or orthotics, depending on the shoe.  I was pleased with his optimism for my recovery.  When I told him that while I've been quite flexible and limber for over 35 years my calves have always been a bit tighter he nodded his head and said, ahhh, you've probably been working up to this for a long time then. Told me to play it by ear with working out but if the stretching works for me I should be good to go before too awfully long and I should keep up with the stretching long term.

So, now I just need to consciously spend 6-8 minutes 4X a day to get the stretch reps in for each foot.  Hopefully I'll be able to post at least some walking again sometime soon!

    Nats: Cute cute picture!

Ruth: Wonderful picture and I'm sure you're happy to see blue sky.

Sweet: So glad you called the nurse and got your appointment changed to today. Keep up your stretching.

It was 88 degrees hot today. I waited until it was 83 degrees to power walk/run. Spring is coming 2 steps forward and then 1 step back but it's coming, that's for sure!

Sweet you should get yourself a foam roller to add to your routine, it hurts like heck at first but it really works out the kinks and another great calf stretch is to stand backwards on a stair toes close to the edge go up on your toes then down and hang your heels over the back of the step that one really goes deep.  Pat I have a BCO app on my iPad.  What's even more impressive about those North Dakota ladies is that one of them has shorts onSnooze

    Today did Sh'bam class.

Ruth - wow -that's an impressive snow pile - I think that monster will be around till the 4th of July!  Sweet - great news that with consistent stretching the doctor thinks it will resolve!  And good for you for being your own advocate and pushing to get an earlier appt - if there's one thing b/c taught me was how to navigate the medical machine and push when it needs pushing.  I use SuperFeet inserts in my running shoes and find that they really help. They have different kinds depending on whether you pronate or how high your arch is.  If you get back into any running, your local running store should be able to fit you with some good shoes and the proper SuperFeet or other inserts for you.  Cheryl - that heel raise and dip stair stretch is one of my pre-run stretches.  I find it really has helped since I incorporated it into my routine.  I also love my foam roller to work out tight spots.

Had my 90 minute yin yoga class last night.  Love that class.  I have a much-needed hair appointment tonight, and tomorrow I'm off work cuz it's the Nationals Opening Day at home.  We're starting off baseball season with a bang - Nats game tomorrow, then a minor league game Saturday night, then another Nats game on Sunday.  Then all the fun comes to a screeching halt on Monday when I start my colonoscopy prep!  Shocked

Cheryl, that's great, did not know BCO had an app for the Ipad.  I will look for that tonight, as I often doodle on my ipad while hubby is watching his hunting/alsaka/househunting/fishing shows at night.

Had a training session Tuesday night, felt good.  Forgot my fitbit yesterday, but in my pocket today!  Will walk at lunch and to the gym after work for some cardio and legs.

Mary, the baseball season already has me seriously depressed. The Twins lost their first game, and blew a 2 point lead with two out in the ninth on a wild throw to home (and then lost in the 11th Bawling). DH has a colonoscopy next week too, and it looking forward to it about as much as you are.

Woke up to 3 more inches of snow (and it is still snowing), but no wind. So I've shoveled by way out & am now off to Core and pilates at the YMCA.

sweet....glad to hear you've got a dx...(of course, you already were spot on, eh!). Can I toss in a comment.....you can overdo the stretching (intensity-wise) so do be mindful of things. It's a good idea to warm up a bit before stretching, and ice down after stretching too, each time.

Good lord, Ruth....will it never end for you??? We seem to be in the "foggy season" now....means the air is warming up and the snow evaporating.....COME ON SPRING!!!!!

Just heading out the door to swim....did enough on the "legs" yesterday.

Ruth, good to read the Y was not closed.  Have fun over the next 3 days NatsFan/Mary! S&S  hope your pain resolves quick.  We have strange, freak weather, all to do with dust blowing in from the Sahara desert turning the pollution index all the way up to 10.  I grew up in a armpit burb of LA, so in my estimation, this really isn't that bad and the good news is that with rain on the way,  the pollutants will be
washed out and everyone can breathe easier.

Body balance and pink pilates earlier and now heading back out for yoga class.

hbcheryl - I do have a foam roller that I got when I was having IT band problems that caused knee pain.  I still pull it out every now and then. When I'm home I'm doing the stairstep stretch.  Here at work I'l doing a wall type stretch that I used a while back when I was having achilles pain.  I'll do my best not to over do it.  I've been a stretcher since way (way, way, way) back in high school when I was on the gymnastics team.  Gentle stretching for designated counts and reps, no bouncing, etc.

NatsFan - I'm actually supponating (sp?) right now because of the plantar fasciitis pain (rolling my weight to the outside rather than the inside).  I've always had high arches with no rolling in or out, just a nice solid footing.  I am working with a local shoe specialty store for my orthotic insert in my running shoes.  I need to wear them for a week or two and then he'll take a look at my footprint to know if he needs to 'build them up' in any particular area(s) to get the support I need.

Pat01 - would that be the 'Outdoor Channel'?  If so, I suffer through the same thing every night......sigh

Thanks everyone for the support and ideas and recommendations Smile
