Good morning!  I'm up early because dh and I are going to the gym early so that he can get in his Thurs. morning workout and go to a dr. apptment with his cardio dr. this am.  My plans are to put in some hrs. in the yard finishing up spreading the pine straw for mulch on flowerbeds.

This afternoon I need to get the state income tax return done.  Dread to see how much $$$ the state will want in addition to what we paid in federal taxes.  Most of our income is from retirement funds, so now that $$$ is being taxed.  At least we were able to put away money for these years.

Chevy, you must be busy working in your yard.  Or else you're watching a lot of Shirley Temple movies!  LOL!

Camille, what did you hear from your tests?  I hope it was good news.

Greetings to all.  Hope you have a good Thursday.

Morning Carole!  Yes, always working outdoors, when I can!  But it's only 38 here right now!  Snowing in the high country, and freezing rain here!  No gardening today...Sad....  I'm also working on two chairs I found in the alley last year.... Wooden/straw ladderback chairs...!  Cleaning and painting them bright colors, and then I guess I'll just put them on the front porch...  But they will be pretty!

Have a great day gals!  xoxoxo

We don’t get many second chances in life; are we going to be happy
having accomplished a lot, yet not having put our minds and hearts into any of
it?  Put it another way:  In prayer, we give ourselves completely over
to the act of communicating with God.
Why can’t we do the same thing with more mundane matters?  Couldn’t that be a form of divine
    communication, too?

    Good Morning,

It is really pretty here, and quite warm.  Some time today or tonight we will likely start into a day or two of rain.  It has been a bit since the last rain ( we didn't have much for April showers ) so I guess I'll have to just buck up and handle that old color of gray.

I did a fair amt. of walking yesterday -- nearly  four miles I think and worked out on some gym equipment.  Can't believe how all right I feel for that.  It must be from the fact that we have been walking for some time.  Only about 2 & 1/2 miles though most days.  So, yesterday was a major increase.  I won't be doing quite that much most of the time....it just sort of worked out that way.

Anyway....I'm looking for good things to happen now that I'm tackling trying to get myself in much better 'overall' shape.  I do expect my weight to change ( lower for sure ) as well.  That does mean instituting better habits here and not pigging out on desserts.  I think like Weight Watchers....nothing much should be off limits.....but moderation and maybe some adjustments at times.   Sigh !!!!  All the things I really know and am so carefully able to tuck far enough back in my mind so that I'm not bothered too much when I miss-behave.  ( think double sigh here ).  I'm just going to have to get it right and work a lot harder at keeping it right.

I hope you are all going to have a good Thursday.  Oooh Chevy.....it sounds so cold where you are.  I hope that doesn't hang around too long.

    See you all later.

    Blessings

    Jackie

Jackie, even 2 and 1/2 miles is a lot ... I think.  I am trying to work back up to 30 minutes a day with an eventual goal of 45 minutes a day.  It sounds like you have a realistic eating plan.  Every time I try to give up all of something I find myself overeating something else or the thing itself.  I agree with you that moderation is a good way to go.  Do you have a trail to walk?  I think I might be encouraged to go longer than 45 minutes if I find an interesting place to walk that's longer than my neighborhood routes.

    Hello,

This is my first posting - just learning how to nagivate this forum.  Topic peaked my interest as I turned 67 in March.  I consider myself a young 67, and have been a daily exerciser for most of my adult life.  Even through 4 DD A/C, I managed to exercise at least 45 minutes every day through treatment - not at my previous pace by a long shot, but still did it.  If I was draggin' too much to go to the gym, I got on my treadmill at home for 45.  I think it's really helped me get through the chemo with minimal side effects.

As you can see from my signature, I was diagnosed with Triple Negative BC and even though only stage 1 with no LN involvement, I was advised to go with the chemo big guns.  So far, with only 2 of the 12 weekly Taxol doses under my belt, I'm feeling much better than on the A/C.  Lost one big toe nail and fighting to save the other.  Uncommon with A/C - more so w/the Taxol.  To prevent further nail loss and lessen neuropathy, I'm wearing those frozen ElastoGel gloves and booties during Taxol and using tea tree oil.   Interested in others' experiences with this.

Welcome MomMom, I'm glad you found us.  I didn't have your diagnosis so I can't help you much there.  My diagnosis was 7 yrs. ago and so what I can tell you is that though you may be really blind-sided with this disease and have some ups and downs ( you sound as though you have done really, really well )  you can get back to almost all of the scenario you had mapped out for yourself, as well as the others in your life.

Your life becomes very much all about you and all about lots of appointments.  Just about the time you think you are ready to melt at the thought of one more Dr.'s appt. you get to cut back on them.

Anyway.....we do get back to life and doing things we enjoy.  By the way, we call ourselves well-seasoned here since we do have a few extra yrs. on us.  I'm 68 and will be 69 in September.  I feel ( well usually ) about 10 yrs. younger.  The body might start to look my age, but I think there is little possibility that my mind will do the same.

Sometimes we are slow getting on here but I'm sure someone will turn up and pull the welcome mat even farther out for you.  Glad you are here.

    Blessings,

    Jackie

MomMom, let me repeat Jackie's welcome.  I guess your bc drs. recommended the chemo because the hormonal drugs (tamoxifen, arimidex, etc) don't apply to your dx.  It sounds as though you have a great attitude and were in great shape when you were dx'ed.  I really believe in the benefits of exercise.  Even though lots of exercise didn't prevent me from getting bc.  Hope you will stick around and visit with us.

As for me, I'm very tired again tonight.  After working out at the gym, I spent a number of hours in the yard.  Finished using up the 20 bales of pine straw and mulching flower beds.  No doubt I'll sleep well tonight.

Our weather forecast is calling for a lot of rain tomorrow.  I hope we do get quite a bit of rain because it's very dry.

Chevy, I would also love to see a picture of the chairs when they're finished.

Welcome MomMom.  I had gotten lazy before my BC diagnosis but am trying to make exercise an everyday part of my life again.  Exercise seems to empower me.  Keep us posted on your treatment so that we can support you.  We also love to hear about what people are doing for fun, and we often get joy out of sharing memories from bygone times.

Carole, I bet you are happy to have the straw all spread.  Sleep well.

The resident squirrel in our yard just attacked a new mini pink rose.  He seems to prefer pink flowers.  DH will make a cover for the cage which did not keep "Sammy" out.  We do enjoy his antics!

    Hi Ladies, Welcome Mommom,

We had what might be some good news today.  The DCF worker phoned and said it was going to be their recomendation to the Judge the DGD come to us in Texas.  With this judge who knows.  We are praying for a good out come. It is so dry here it is scary .

Been helping DH out at the broom shop, I am much better off going in with him then spending time alone at home.  Since BC DX I have decided that house work can wait, I used to be a fanatic about the house being clean.  If I die tomorrow, someone else can worry about it.

    Hugs

Hurray for mommarch.  Long awaited good news.

And welcome mommom.  I'm a lumpectomy girl with no chemo so I can't answer any questions.  But I'm here to encourage and try to have fun with women who understand and have been seasoned.  (67 here).

My face paint event was a success thanks to the help of a friend who kept things organized while I painted a different child every three minutes.  I offered to put any child on facebook if their parents gave written permission for me to use the photo.  That way they will get a copy of the picture and are required to go look at my page.  So I'm headed to bed, but am attaching several painted children and a picture of myself in my painty personna top hat.  Hope you like them and they bring a smile.  I sure saw plenty of smile tonight.

Mimi, the children are adorable.  And you're good at the painting!  I love the way you enjoy yourself.  I've never know a real clown before.

Mommarch, good news about the situation with your DGD.  It's dry here, too, but we're supposed to have showers on and off all day.  The driveway was wet when I got up at 6:30.  I had set the alarm to get up so I could play golf at 8:10 but golf is cancelled.  I just hope we get a lot of "soaking" rain to water the flower beds, lawn and trees.  I hate to see plants looking thirsty and we don't have a sprinkling system.

I have lots to do inside the house so I shouldn't be twiddling my thumbs today.

    Happy Friday to all.

OMG I don't realize how much I miss--u gals are so busy of course u have to be tired. I love how everyone keeps track of their excercse and keeping it going.

Welcome MomMom this is a wonderful place to share u'r events, stories or just general everything. When I had chemo I didn't do anything my fingernails turned black and I've still loosing one or two on occasion and my toenail losing some and just ick--but I didn't ice as so many are doing now--U sound good with a great attitude so that's a big help.

Rita that peach recipe sounds great for summer things to bring especially and I suppose if there will be more people u can always double it.-I have to mark this page so I don't forget. Nice and easy.

Mimi u'r face painting is great and u get so much pleasure from it-it's wonderful.

Carole leave it to you to ask about my tests. Well not so good, to many foreign things in my urine so I'm being treated for that but the pain is still there--I see a Urologist at the end of the month and was told she great and graduated from Harvard, well of course I asked if it was in Guatamala.  So we'll see what she asks from me besides my pee. They think my bladder is in trouble along with my kidney, so I'm eating a lot of kidney beans maybe I can fool Miss Harvard. But I'm really not that concerned they make a big thing out of everything lately.

Well we got loads of rain last nite and more today so far and that's fine with me. Oh we're celebrating out Mother's day next week-end I like my kids to go to their in-laws cuz they don't see them as much anyway, and it's my BD next week so we'll do it at the same time. I can go a couple of places if I feel like it, but I'm checking the food list with each invitation--I'm such a b*tch, I know. It's funny but whenever I went anywhere I was the first one up cleaning everything up and starting the coffee and again after dessert, I think that's why I was invited , but now I just kind make it look like I do a few things and I'm exhausted so I sit. AAAAHHH not as many invites----Naw I still get them, I just don't go all the time like I used to. Oh well I get to enough.

    TGIF everyone

    Morning everyone.

mommarch, wow, I sure do hope the recommendations are taken to heart by the judge.  One never knows, but I would think that plus the fact that GD wants to come home to you should be making a  very DEEP impression on that judge when she gets to ruling on it.

Mimi.....is there anything better than making a little child happy.  Those little smiling faces are worth so much.  My heart would just swell.  Well, actually I guess it does when I see the kitty cats rushing out to greet me at the feral cat stations when I come with food.

Carole we had lots and lots of rain through the night and I think more today and tonight as well.  I'm going to be staying overnight where I work.  First time I have done that so hopefully it will go fine.  I'm sure it will feel strange but not in a negative way.

We are having 80 degree weather with all of this going on ,though does go down while the rain/storm is working its way through.

I hope you all have a fantastic Friday.

    Blessings

    Jackie

Cami, I'm glad you have some good drs.  I'll bet you get all those invitations because you're fun to be around.  That's very unselfish of you to encourage your kids to spend some time with the other parents.

The much predicted rain hasn't shown up here so far.  My mother's hair apptment is 2 pm.  I would like the rain to hold off for that.  One of my brothers has asked me to buy a gift card from the hair stylist for my mother's Mother's Day present.  I've arranged to handle that on the sly.

    Hope Sandra is enjoying herself.

Carole, I like how  your brother thinks.  If your mother is anything like my mother.......and most of the older generation I have known --- they are happiest when they know you love and revere them.  Cards are nice but have a one-time type quality.  Flowers die and are tossed leaving ( usually ) an inexpensive container to donate to Goodwill or put up in the attic or basement with a whole lot of others.  Now a man who knows that women, no matter what their age always, but always want to look good with "done-up" hair would win my heart in a second.  I bet your Mom will be so thrilled that her son wanted to give her the gift of looking good.

I bet your mother is "thrilled" with the loving, caring children she raised.  I 'envy' you the pleasure of doing things for your Mom......though I was able to do a whole lot for my mother too.  I find myself ambivalent still very often.  So happy that she has not had to feel pain, and distress, or miss out on things that she loved, for 14 yrs. now, but sometimes wishing I could just hug her and tell her how much she always meant to me.  Then again, I know where she is, and she likely is well aware of how I feel.  Just thinking of her can bring as smile to my face.

On to some of the work I need to accomplish.  I am going to go to work at 3 p.m. today and will stay overnight at the Dr.'s house  so he and his better half can have a night off spent in the city.  Will get off at 3 p.m. tomorrow afternoon.  It will be a bit of an adventure....the first time I have spent overnight.

    See you all  later tomorrow.....after 3 p.m.

    Blessings

Thanks for all the welcomes ladies!  Yep, I'm getting the "big guns" treatment even though Stage 1 because triple negative doesn't respond to the hormone receptive drugs. I definitely don't fit the typical TN profile being 66 when diagnosed and Caucasian.  TN more often occurs in younger women and African American women.  Carole - You certainly sound in fantastic shape - good for you!  Even though being in good physical condition didn't prevent me from getting bc - studies show that even moderate exercise at least 5 days a week can prevent a recurrence by 42%!!  Plus, it just makes me feel better mentally.

Wishing you all a wonderful Mother's Day on Sunday.  As mother to a daughter and twin sons, I'm Mom Mom to 7 beautiful grandchildren ranging in age from a 13 year old to 20 month old twin babies.  I am lucky enough to see them often as they all live nearby.

Welcome MomMom.    Keep us posted on your treatment so that we can support you.  I had a lumpectomy and the mammosite for radiation but chose not to have chemo so I did not go through what you are dealing with. Good luck.

    Carole, Sleep well.

Mimi, the childrens smiling faces just  make me smile. I love your clown outfit.

Cami,  please keep us posted and take care of yourself.

Two things made me feel good this week.1. one of my 4 yr old students came up and said he missed me on Saturday and Sunday when we were not at school. 2. DH and I went to the American Legion in our town for their Friday night fish fry. We were charged full price, not the senior citizen price. When I asked what senior citizens age was they said 62. I told them my DH is 64 and I am 65 they did not         believe us. (they then changed our bill) It made me feel good to hear that.

I guess we had a good rain storm last night but I slept throught the whole things, I must have been really tired to do that!

Happy Mother's Day to everyone and I hope you all enjoy your families and this weekend!

Well as usual it is late, been at the broom shop with DH all week, need to stay home and do some things tomorrow.

Would rather be at the shop.  Element went out of our hot water heater yesterday.  Of course DH being a retired Master Plumber had to do the work.  He is 76 and laying on the floor in a pool of water and changing it out.  He amazes me.

Hope all is well with everyone.  Thanks for all your support.

    Hi Everyone--I know it's late--

Tonite was a Joey and me nite so we spent the evening together and u all know how I enjoy that. And he still does, so I take it--I love it cuz we talk about so many things and it's interesting how they think when there 9 yrs. old.

Jackie u'r spending the night there, I'm sure it will be fine but u'll be glad to get home like all of us do.

Termite what a great feeling to be charged regular price hahaha

Carole that was nice of u to say, but I'm really boring to be around cuz I don't filter anything so it's like a free for all and I'm really not worried about any of these tests or whatever they're going to find or do. See my body is even boring

OK I'll ketchup more tomorrow have  good nite's sleep.

Cami, 9 year olds are interesting.  My 9 YO DGDs open my eyes to a variety of subjects and thoughts that bring me enthusiasm.

Jackie I hope your night went smoothly.  Did your patient sleep through the night?

Termite, I hope you are enjoying looking young.

Carole, do you think your Mom will use the gift card for her regular "do" or will she use it for something special like a mani or pedi?  I guess I am weird because I don't care for mani, pedis, or massages.

mommarch, is your husband okay after his adventure fixing your water heater?  I hope so!

Hi mommom and Blondie and everyone I missed.  I hope everyone has a good Saturday.
