Who knows if organic is better or not. I mean I buy organic cheese but it's wrapped in plastic. I buy my water but it too comes in a big plastic jug. I'm not even sure the products that claim to be "organic" really organic. Now I find out Chobani (made from all natural ingredients) makes their yogurt from cows that eat GMO corn yes is still labeled organic.  IMO I have enough to worry about. I try to stay away from processed foods.

dance/lago - I just had this conversation with my son who is a Sports Medicine major. He took a nutrition class and wrote a paper on organic foods. During his research he found that because of the cost of truly organic farming for commercial purposes many smaller farmers can't sustain the costs of doing business. Savvy larger agricultural businesses have realized that the public will pay more for organic so they purchase these smaller farms that are adjacent to their larger non-organic farms, keeping the organic name/label. They spray the snot out of the non-organic stuff, and the overspray and water runoff goes onto the organic stuff. Because there is so little governmental control over what can be called organic, not much really is! Personally, I go by the dirty dozen and clean fifteen rules, linked below, but I think if you want organic you are better off trying to buy locally sourced produce if you can. I have also noticed that Whole Foods carries organic from other countries - um, if we are doing a bad job of regulating what is organic, I'm not really trusting other countries to do it better. I do avoid GMOs and I don't eat dairy.

Depending on the country some actually do a better job. I can't afford to go organic. I need some dairy for the calcium. My Rhuematologist reduced my Calcium and said to get it from food. Granted I do eat veggies too but with my current osteoperosis/aromasin I have to do all I can.

lago - are you eating any salmon and/or fortified cereals? I just linked calcium rich foods for someone on another thread - I'm sure you have googled already, but there are a number of calcium rich non-dairy sources. Most people don't go dairy-free like I did, but I feel so much better without it, I'm not going back. I know you are stuck in a situation and need to do what you can.

Yes I eat salmon but I need to be eating something daily. I'm really not worried about a yogurt and a little cheese.

lago - you def have to do what is right for you. I was allergic to milk as a baby and apparently that sensitivity followed me into adulthood. After I had eliminated dairy for several months I had surgery in March and ate a Greek yogurt daily for several days since I was on antibiotics. My skin broke out terribly, stopped the yogurt and skin cleared up. So, I supplement calcium and try to eat as much other food with calcium and I also drink almond and coconut milk.

Yeah processed food and white sugar make me feel yuckie and mess up my skin. I also found that peanut butter bloats me. I haven't  had any for months… and I love peanut butter. It might be the salt in it but I also have left the walnuts out of my salads and also fee less bloated.

It is so interesting what causes trouble! For me the bloating comes from dairy, no question. Salt does make me puffy, so I watch it. I thought I would miss peanut butter more, but I switched to almond butter and I love it. I don't miss sugar either and eat almost nothing processed, and I'm enjoying more food in its natural state.

Well I just lost 3 lbs of water weight from the weekend. Salt is so bad for me now. Never had the problem before. I am on a small diuretic. Was taking 1/2 pill but just switched to a full pill a month ago… and lost 4+ lbs!

Just saw where Joan Lunden has been diagnosed with BC.  She did not say her2 positive but she did say it was the aggressive kind, therefore I assume it means her2 positive.  She said she is having surgery, chemo and radiation.. BC must somehow be related to our environment.. So many new cases lately..

Aggressive kind can mean triple negative or just grade 3. Very open to interpretation but triple negative and IBC are the most agressive.

SusanHG123, if i didnt already have a pretty decent man, i would come and be your wife! just to partake of your hilarity! I am however, capable of being a long distant pirate! i am currently being a minion for a woman i found on craigslist, who was advertising for minions! She is pretty funny, too.(she is sending me a t-shirt, we have corresponded). I am awaiting assignment, but here i am telling people all about it! I agree with ashla, i love your posts, and they are better than any womans' book i have read, with their experience of breast cancer.(i've read great ones, just not as funny) i would buy it, and give it 5 stars. seriously, please start!! looking for you on jimmy kimmel one day..

before i was diagnosed, i was reading about monsanto. now that is some scary stuff. they have actually sued small farmers, pretty much destroyed their lives and operations, because part of what they do, is to modify the corn etc. so that you have to buy fresh seed from them every year. thus insuring they get a steady paycheck! and small farmers whose fields abut the bigger farms where they ARE using the monsanto seeds, Are getting their crops infected by the bees, carried by the wind, etc... and somehow, the labeled gene is apparent on the small organic farmers' crop, and then monsanto sues them for "using" their seed corn without paying for it. plus monsanto is working on how to radiolable and code the genes of pigs and cows too. seriously. they are wanting to control the whole food supply. And other countries ARE refusing to use ANYthing from monsanto, whose name i will not even capitalize.(not that i do alot of that anyway.) scary stuff. monsanto is also responsible for some of the worst superfund sites...

I try to eat mostly unprocessed foods. But i don't go crazy with it as i eat what I can get. Farmers markets get a lot of fresh veggies.  But. I still have the problem of D if I eat raw veggies.  If I have a salad I stay home next day. It just is. Sometimes I crave salads. But some times even cookied foods are problematic for me. Even though I love collards, kale, cabbage, broccoli.  So i pretty much eat according to what I have going on. LOL.  I used to eat Chinese food only on Friday so I could eat fried, and cabbage, and be able to work Monday! LOL I eat salmon patties and make them from the can so you can eat the bones to get the most calcium.  But dairy is needed for me and doesn't seem to make a whit of difference for me. Dang it'd be nice if we all worked the same! LOL.

    Much love

Ang, it would be so great if we could all get together!  Something tells me we would all have a blast and never want to go home.

Okimie, that is a sky high LDH!  That's the Arimidex.  Did your MO talk to you about it?  You might be a candidate for another drug in the aromatse inhibitor family, or need to go on Tamox.

And everybody in Ohio (Western), Kentucky (Northern) and Indiana (I think all over), look up Green Bean Delivery.  I get locally grown produce (and some grown in other parts during the Winter) that is organic delivered to my door every 2 weeks.  It is priced ok.  I'm supporting local growers, can customize my produce bin to what I want, and can buy organic foods from local farms like cheese, salsa, butter, humus.  It's a great deal!

Update on my dizziness/weakness. Followed everyones advice, saw the nurse at the MO office this morning who sent me to the ER to make sure it was not a cardiac event. ER staff was.nice, but everyone made sure they let me know they don't think thr ER is the best place for a chemo patient because of all the germs. Thank you for giving me one more thing to worry about.  My dx.was hyponatremia - low sodium levels.  OMG I am so confused. My.bloodwork on wednesday.showed high sodium level and MO told me to watch my sodium intake. Of couse I've following his orders and doing.just that. So my discharge directions say"reduce your daily water intake.until problem is corrected".  When I called the MO office yesterday, they told me drink more, but it was actually making the problem worse.  yikes, i can't win! Feeling much better following 2 bags of fluids. Wondering how to survive three more rounds.

SpecialK that is interesting about the farms being bought up by big corporations and the run-off, etc.  I do stick to the dirty dozen, and thankfully in the summer I grow my own veggie garden - so great to know those veggies have absolutely no pesticides!

The organic meats and eggs are what are so expensive for me.  Of course I don't eat organic when I go out, but I try to use organic for home cooking.

    Drink water with pretzels. Loopy

Seriously don't go overboard in either direction. It's like taking too much medication for constipation and then ending up with diarrhea. I so wish these MDs would be a bit more specific about how much your need to reduce or increase! Yes you can drink too much water and mess up electrolytes. Its not uncommon. That's why you might consider eating soup (I make my own with no salt or little salt) or drinks like Gatorate (granted it has sugar but this is only to get through chemo) rather than just plain water.

gatorade, good, hold your nose! sorry that it was a see saw for you, lago had a good idea with the gatorade, it has necessary electrolytes, better than water for chemo.

Pbrain, that place sounds so great, i am going to go look and see. plus, no more shopping! or not as much. i am going to try and build myself a budget, but still eat well. a hat or a squirell or something, ate my 7 tomatoes on my vine outside my door the other day. Pi$$ed me off! i have been tending them lovingly, swoooosh, gone! fu(k#%$!!!

i am looking for work, not sucessfully. no more construction or painting for me.

I was avoiding gatorade because of the sugar, it makes the thrush grow. I sound like a broken record complaining about this stupid thrush all the time, lol, but chemo would be so much easier without it.  I'm feeling good tonight, I think I should just plan on getting fluids a couple days after every round.

I would like more info from those of you doing no dairy. I always ate huge amounts of dairy, but right before the bc dx I noticed it causing me alot ot tummy distress. I've switched to almond milk. I can tolerate small amounts of yougert or an occassional ice cream. I REALLY miss cheese. Having bc that was highly er+ gives me yet one more reason to avoid dairy, but I know getting enough calcium is important too. Has anyone found tasty substitutes for dairy products? Do you take calcium supplements? How much?

Pbrain, I really loved Fishers for all the same reasons.  I haven't found another area that I like as well.  We lived in Geist Overlook.  On our street alone, there were 30+ kids.  We would gather in front of our neighbors house so all the kids could play.  People that lived there knew not to drive down the street because of all the kids.

pbrain-as I got in the car, the storm alert on my phone was going crazy. I headed over to Macys, and as I strolled into the building with another lady, the manager practically grabbed our arms and told us to get to the middle of the store immediately. It was packed with everyone sitting on the floor, huddled around. Had to stay for 40 minutes.

I thought about you also! Lunch was great, and looking forward to next time. While you all were talking about organic foods, we went to Five Guys Burgers. Yum!

After lunch, I went and bought a bike! Isn't it cute? Going to get white fenders and a fun bell. Now if I just had a beach to ride along. I'll have to settle for the Monon Trail, pardon the hair. It was rained on.

Ah Mommato3, you'll find somewhere just as great I'm sure.  Lafayette must be kind of fun as a college town.  I'm over by Geist too, and it is just so beautiful.  I don't do well with the Winters here though.  Being on the western edge of EST and waking up, getting ready and driving to work in the dark for 3/4 of the year just does me in.  But other than that, yeap, a really great place to live.  We keep making the top 10 in the US in a bunch of magazines and surveys.

Yay Fluff!  I was worried about you!  I drove to work and found all the employees were in the tunnels between our buildings, so I just wandered over there.  I hear there was serious tornado activity right where we were right after we left!

And yes, 5 guys is definitely not on my organic list, but man was that tasty.  If I only do it here and there, it should be ok...right?

Smart thinking hitting Macy's.  I was pondering turning into Community and sitting in the lobby at the Cancer Center (lead walls and all because or radiation).   But I trekked on through to the Roche campus and the ever handy underground tunnels.

    I absolutely LOVE the bike!!!

How about   meet- up in NYC one  of these days? We can rock the Big Apple!

This is gonna be all over the place but just in case you missed it. 3D mammos find more cancers. Is already adding to the controversy re the benefit of mammos. Is it beneficial to find MORE bcs. Does finding MORE  and earlier improve survival ?

In the interest of full disclosure . I get a 3 D mammo.

Glad y'all are safe from the tornados.  It is so scary when you are under a warning.  We go through that way too much here in Alabama.
