Signed up for a 60 mile kick butt cycling event on the 14th. Good cause....help and support for abused women. Otherwise, nose at grindstone, but will do a walk later.

Took two really good long walks today, one with some hills!! Hoping to get a bike ride in sometime this week! Ruth, your photo project is neat!

I am NOT going to share the pictures of me with a curly perm in the early '80s. Good Grief, I wish someone at the time would have pointed out that I looked like a large Standard Poodle in that 'do!

There, did 30 mins - 1-1/2 miles mostly walking with some 30 sec-1 min jogging. Thanks Sweet, Ruth and especially, loseit.com!
Night my sculpted friends.

Oh come on, ruth. Let us see. We promise we won't repost on the internet (only put it up in the cloud) heehee

All I can say is Thank Goodness the Internet, Facebook, the Cloud (I don't even know what 'the cloud' is!), Twitter etc. etc......none of those existed during my misspent youth... and I am 99.999999% certain there are no naked pictures of me floating around anywhere!!!
About the most dreadful thing I can think of is if a copy of the 8 track tape recording with my boyfriend playing 'Little Surfer Girl' on the guitar and me doing the vocals still exists.....now that would pretty embarrassing!

Too funny Ruth......I had a curly Afro perm in 1976 for 10th grade school pix - talk about OMG!! (my apologies for the ethnic reference if it's not politically correct any more...lol). I can't believe you're done with that project already! You're reminding me of Super Claire
!About 35 minutes of mow and sculpt after work, then 5-10 minutes of minor fruit tree trimming (those 'sucker' branches that start growing everywhere while you're not looking). Watching a show at 8pm, then a shower and relax time.
Love y'all - nightie night!

Just jumping in to hopefully help me with motivation.
Walked a little over a mile today. Only second time since deciding to start. Almost didn't make it due to severe leg pain.

I had Texas big hair, and I apologize to any Texans. I was so glad when straight hair came back into fashion. I got that!
Mowed the lawn 45 minutes and walked the dog 15.

Went to my livestrong training class. Did weight lifting strength training for 45 minutes. Once again, un-did that with eating "junk" food :-/

Hi Nettie! Walking is really good for you but not if it produces severe leg pain. Be sure and stretch your legs out and stop walking when the pain starts. So glad you have decided to start!
Ruth: Great project - your friends will have so much fun looking through the pictures. If we all beg hard enough will you post the picture of your permed hair???
Maybe TwoHobbies and Sweet will post their pictures also???
Cheryl: Which dress did you choose?
Odie: your Labor Day sounded so relaxing!
Hello everyone. Like Patoo, it's hot and humid here. Yesterday I mowed for 45 minutes (dh did the rest of the yard). Today we waited until later in the evening to walk/jog. Thankfully there was a nice breeze blowing.

Nettie - take it easy starting out. A mile can be a LONG way if you've not done much of it for fitness purposes before. Severe leg pain doesn't sound right to me either. When does the pain kick in? Is it right away? Or at the half-mile mark? What sort of pain? Muscle? Nerve? Joint? Ache or stabbing pain? I would check with your doctor but in the meantime, if you do walk, try to stay close to home rather than going out a half-mile then having to come all that way back. Do laps around your city block, or to the end of your road and back. Something that will keep you close to home if you get those pains again so you can easily make it home.

Ruth, you did a really nice job on the photo albums. The 80's were my hayday since big hair was in.
Claire, enjoy the ride and what a great cause to support.
Lilacblue, hope grumpy was happy by Yoga time. Good luck on your upcoming 10k.
Admire those of you brave souls who mowed yesterday. It was 95 degrees here, hence great pool weather. Not a great day for yard work so serious kudos.
Today's exercise was bootcamp at the air conditioned gym.

Welcome, Nettie! It is fine if you are sore after walking, but you shouldn't have severe pain! If you think it is from walking, start slower & mix it up with biking or other lower or no impact exercises.
Wonderland, visualize how your hair would look if you stuck your finger in an electric socket & you will get the idea of how my hair looked!

Heidi I forgot to say, I looked up Nicadance and it sure looked fun, I saw both Jam and Sh'bam moves in there. Nettie welcome to the thread, what kind of pain was it? If you're not used to exercise before you start do a few stretches, especially stretch your calves as they can cramp up and a a Sweet says stay close to home you don't want to be way away and not be able to get back home. Ruth the book looks terrific, I think we've all got some of 'those' photos in our archives
Patoo glad the 'voices' kicked in for you. Wonderland I have chosen a black 60s style swing dress it has cap sleeves with a thread of black velvet around the sleeve and neck then on the bottom it has a strip of black velvet and a strip of white chiffon it's comfy too and I have a big chunky white pearl necklace to wear with it. Auroaya you are sticking with the Livestrong program and that is terrific, my downfall is sweets, especially at night when I have my cup of tea.Tonight did Sh'bam, my goodness I was absolutely covered in liquid awesome by the end of class.

Unfortunately, I also heard the voices last night and went for my walk anyway although threatening. It's been a while since I got this wet! This was a mile walk back in a thunderstorm with wind, rain, and hail. It was so miserable I was laughing hysterically. Fortunately, no close lightening. And I had to climb over a tree that was down on the way back.
I was glad to get my soaking clothes off. No worse for wear really.
I was also remarking to myself how having someone in my life means I do a better job of keeping my place clean and tidy.
Think today will mean much better focus at work. I buried myself in database stuff yesterday, but today I need to be on my game. The storm may have done wonders that way. - Claire

I wish I could magically transport you all here, where it is absolutely beautiful!!!!! Walked with the Wednesday Women. You will notice we all are wearing shirts that say 'Be Brave'.....this advice can apply to many situations in life; but in this case, we are wearing the shirts in support a former student, now a 32 year old mother of twins, who is battling BC. She designed the shirt & picked the slogan herself & her friends are selling it to raise some money for her treatments & incidentals & also to give her a little boast in morale. Even though she now lives on the West Coast, through the wonders of social media, we were glad to be able to help out a little from afar. (She just finishes chemo tomorrow, with a double mastectomy to come, and then, due to her diagnosis, I imagine radiation will also be in the cards.....so if you want to send out a good thought or prayer for 'Anne', that would be awesome!)

Have been out of touch since last week - DH's kidney stone has been kicking up, so there have been a lot of sleepless nights lately. He had a follow up with the urologist today - the scans show the stone is moving along and is almost there, but not quite. The Dr. says he can go get it, but that it's best if it passes naturally because as we all know even minor surgery can be a risk, and the post-surgical temporary stent they place can be quite painful. But if it doesn't pass within the next 2 weeks (or if DH can't stand it anymore) then he can schedule the surgery because if it goes too long the kidney can be damaged. Ugh.
Ran this weekend and did some yardwork, but have been tired from being up during the night, so I've blown off exercise the last two days. Need to get out tomorrow for a run - the running clinic has me scheduled for a 3 mile. Will have to get up extra early to get it in at the crack of dawn before the heat and humidity get out of control. Ruth - ND sounds delightful right about now, but ask me again in the dead of winter.

Badger - I finally treated myself to a few hours of "me time" this weekend to read "My Stroke of Insight". Thank you so much - what a fabulous book. I've been thinking about it ever since. Excellent recommendation - it was well worth the time to read it. For those of you who aren't familiar with the book, it's written by a Harvard-trained brain scientist who suffers a massive stroke in her left brain, and within 4 hours she loses the ability to walk, talk, read, write, or even remember who she is or what common everyday items like a telephone are for. At that point she's a pure right brain, existing purely in the present, but with an incredible feeling of peace and connectedness with the universe. Yet, as a brain scientist, she's also observing all of this as it happens and knows exactly why it's happening. It was a fascinating read and I learned so much about the left and right brain, and why most of us need to learn to tap into our right brains much more than we do.

Ruth, like the t shirts, and hope all works out well for Anne. Edited to add: Mary & Badger, although I've not read the book, I did watch a Jill Bolte Taylor TED awhile back and she is amazing.

I’ve torn the cloth to shreds
and thrown it away.If you’re not completely naked,
wrap your beautiful robe of words
around you,and sleep.”

Took a long bike ride today!!

Mary, hope your husband's stone passes soon and without surgery!

Ouch, Mary, gosh, I hope things will get resolved SOON....it sounds so painful and exhausting!!!
I did some toning this afternoon & went to Zumba. I will be out of town for a family reunion Friday-Tuesday & I am pretty sure the whole time will consist of lots of eating & very little exercise!!

Hi There,I've been walking up to 3 miles five to six days per week. I track my walks on my phone via MapMyFitness app and love it!! The app maps your walk through GPS, pace, mileage etc. I also connect the app directly to Walgreens site so I get up to a thousand points per month. Today I walked 2.72 miles (One day after my chemo treatment). It was tough due to a lack of energy but, I did it. And I felt so much better.
Keep up the exercise.

Wow Ruth - you've had lots of 'out of town for the weekend' weekends lately
.I have to cop to no exercise today but am happy to see everyone else's reports.
Mary - hope DH's stone passes soon and with as little discomfort as possible. My DD passed a kidney stone when she was working at Guantanamo Bay and it was really hard for her mommy to bear being this far away from my hurting kid!

Hi Redheeled.....I also exercised throughout chemo, and like you, felt better when I did it. My take was that I might as well be exercised and dragging as opposed to just dragging.
It does get better, and glad you are out there kicking it. Good luck. - Claire

Thanks Claire,Its mind over matter but it can be tough. I was told by my dietician that if I didn't do any exercise that when the chemotherapy process is over it would be very hard to get back to it. Basically folks that do nothing and lay around can really cause harm to themselves in the long run. That was enough to motivate me to keep moving.

Good for you redheeled. I did pretty much nothing during chemo except sleep, so I admire anyone who can exercise. I have also been posting my numbers on the Walgreens site, but my app is not supported so I may switch to one that is. I'll take a look at the one you are using. It takes too long to log manually.
Ruth, so sorry to hear about your too young friend with BC. I also recently have a co-worker diagnosed. I feel like we have too many per capita at my workplace. It just doesn't seem right for the age we are. a
Claire, my place was clean and neat when I was dating too. Then I married him and had his kid and now our place is pretty messy!
I meant to ask before, Heidi will we be able to see you on this nicadance promo somewhere?
No exercise today except picking some tomatoes to take to my mom.

hi all, welcome Nettie and redheeled! Good luck with chemo. Besides its other benefits, walking will also help get that crap out of your system faster.
Nettie, sorry you're getting pain when walking. The advice about sticking close to home is excellent. Other good ideas are stretch and stay hydrated. I found that shortening my stride length (taking smaller steps) helped ease shin pain.
Mary, so glad you liked "My Stroke of Insight". Great book; it literally expanded my mind. LB, thanks for the TED link, I will def check it out. BTW, wonderful poem by Rumi.
Ruth, sending good thoughts and prayers for your friend "Anne". Love the Be Brave t-shirts and would proudly wear one. If they have a women's medium, would you mail it to me? I'll reimburse you for the shirt and postage.
Walked my 2.5 mile route after work. ♥
